The owner, Jim came by prior to doing the work to assess the situation. He was able to schedule the doors the same week. I had a crew of two, Frank and his adult son. Frank seemed extremely experienced and took pride in his work. Jim came by both days to check on the progress and help out as needed. They were a pleasure to work and very knowledgeable. Good communication, honest, and very professional. I have one more door to replace and I will be using them for it also.

Carolina Home Exteriors did an excellent job replacing my seven year old poorly installed fiber cement siding. They provided material delivery, portable toilet for the workers, and professionalism. Their color matching and material installation exceeded my expectations and the work they did was a substantial improvement over the original. Highly recommended.

Extremely well, Jim, Frank and Landon arrived on time with our new doors. As an amateur handyman, I notice immediately that they knew what they were doing. They did the job neatly and perfectly. We were very impressed and very happy. I recommend Jim and his crew without hesitation.

Jim was on time and got back to me when I called. Laid back vibe. I felt like the guys doing the work were well qualified and did a great job. My house is warm and quiet. Took a little longer to get the windows put in than I thought due to weather.

Great experience from initial consultation/bid all the way through the finished product. Jim is very knowledgeable in the trade and was responsive to our needs and ideas. One of the windows was very large and we thought we wanted it to work one way and he presented us with other options that were less expensive and actually worked out much better. He talked the whole process out, was available for follow up questions, and honored the Angie's List promotion he offered. His crew was very professional, polite, and did great work. Jim was present everyday to make sure things were going as planned and was eager to address any questions/concerns. He even came back to tighten up one small thing after I had paid in full. I'd recommend this company without any hesitation.

Had company install siding to older home back around 2006. Crew he sent out was very young and actually were subcontracted by this company and did not work directly for the company. (did not know nor was I informed this was going to occur). After job was completed Jim and another man spent about half a day correcting issues with the way the installation went. On the second job around 2011 job installer was much better and experienced and job went well with exception of their attemp to flash a shed roof connecting the main house to an addition. They drove small nails into the flashing-siding and it begin to leak after about one year. I had to seal the area with caulk. They did do GOOD job at replacing some rotten facia board and straighting it down the length of the house. Later met with owner Jim to get estimate on "hardie" board siding job and trim on another house. . He agreed to do the job but kept making excuses why he could not start the job. Bottom line he finally quit calling me back and I had someone else do the job. My thoughts were if this was an installition he did not have a crew for or experience in he should have just said so and not lead me on for over a month.
Description of Work: Installed siding at two locations and what was to be a third Hardie board job but they never showed up.

Response from Carolina Home Exteriors
I am shocked and surprised at this review about my company and my experience with (Member name removed). In response to the first line that says I never showed up for the job is wrong.I have applied vinyl siding to two of (Member name removed) homes that were both of his daughter's homes and have not had any issues with either one. I did use a new crew on one of the homes that were not sub contracted but a factory trained crew by the manufacture and I always check my jobs personally to ensure quality since that is what I sell. These homes were foreclosed homes that needed my full attention as well as my great crews attention. when homes are in this type of shape it takes experience and diligence to do these homes the right way . By the manufactures guidebook. The third home in question where (Member name removed) said that I did not show up is because (Member name removed) remodeled this home himself and left the dormers undone. When (Member name removed) called me to bid on the job I told him that I did not have a crew available to do this work since it was high on the roof with a steep pitch and very little to do. No contract was signed or was he waiting on me to do this job.I run a good company that prides itself on quality and training to do this work.If (Member name removed) was waiting on me then why did I not get a call from him asking when was I coming to do this job. Because my company was not signed up to do this job that's why he never herd from me.(Member name removed) knew that I was not signed up to do the job or I would have been there and got it done.

Jim from Carolina Home Exteriors was recommended to me by another provider and also was listed with on Angie's list with an A rating. I called him and he came to my home looked at the work needed to be done and sent me an estimate plus several references. I ASKED HIM WHO WOULD BE THE FOREMAN ON THE JOB AND WHEN WOULD THE WORK BE DONE. HE STATED HE WOULD OVERSEE THE WORK AND HAD 5 CREWS WORKING FOR HIM. We decided to hire Jim to do the job and he came and picked up a deposit on 4/18, which was a Friday. When he left he said he would call me on Monday 4/21 to schedule the work. He never called. I called him and he said it would be either Wed or Thurs. when he would start the job. Wednesday came and went no call. On Thursday I called Jim. He now said it would be Fri. or Sat. Friday he did not come. Each day that he said he would show up we waited at home, because we don't feel it is a good idea for someone to work at your house without us being present. So we were now pretty frustrated. Finally, on Friday 4/25 AT 6:00 pm, he called and said they would be there the next morning Sat. 4/26 at 10:00 am to start work. On Saturday at 10:00 am Jim did not show up. I called him at 10:30, 11:00 and 11:45. He did not answer his cell phone. Finally at 12:00 he called and apologized and said he had family emergency. He said he was waiting for his crew to meet him and would be by shortly. He never adequately explained why he would not answer my calls or at least give me a call. I had to leave, but my husband stayed home and waited for him to show up. He came at 1:00 went up on the roof with his one worker. Came back down and hour latter and said they could not do the work that day and would be back on Monday 4/28. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday it rained. On Thursday the weather was clear, but no word from Jim. I called him and kept getting his voice mail. I actually had to use a cell phone, with a number he did not know to get him to answer. I told him either he should be at our house the next day or return my deposit. He said he would try to get the work done either Friday or Sat and agreed that if that was not possible to return my money. I asked him why he was having trouble getting the job done if he had five crews to do to the work. He then told me only ONE OF HIS WORKERS was best qualified to do this job and he was the foreman on an apartment roofing job he had going. I asked him to send the guy over and let someone else be the foreman for a day, but he said he would not do that. So to summarize, the only day Jim had this guy free to do the job was on a Saturday when he wasn't on the roofing job. All the weekdays he promised to come where just words. Finally, on Saturday 5/3 Jim and two workers showed up at 10:00. They worked until about 4:00. The work they did was well done. Jim stayed on the roof with them while they worked, most of the time, and supervised the job as he promised. Since the job was completed it has rained a few times and it appears that the diverter he installed works properly. So the job when completed was good.. Getting Jim to show up was not good and very frustrating.
Description of Work: Replaced water damaged cedar siding with hardy board. Also installed a diverter to redirect water that ran down valley of roof and overflowed gutters. Caulked all areas.

In response to {removed member name}, As a prominent business man in Asheville for over 20 years this post is out of context with the guidelines in the contract. This repair contract was contingent upon the availability of one of my factory trained crews.{removed member name} was under the impression that I was going to start immediately on this repair. I called when I was scheduled to for an update on our starting a and she was expecting me every day to start knowing that I was calling to let her know when we would start this repair.I had to order materials and work around the weather as well. The repair was done to the manufactures guidelines and was done by a factory trained crew. The fix for this problem is a start date signed by both parties on the contract and communication by the contractor and homeowner. I am extremely upset by this post and do apologize for any anxiety that was caused in this case. James Mascari Owner Carolina Home Exteriors.

Replaced 6 old windows with new vinyl ones, saved over $1500. Took out the old and removed all debris. A few nicks on the painted window sills, but otherwise nicely done. Workers are polite and pleasant. They also went up on my roof to check on some broken shingles and did their best to repair them while they were there. Very helpful folks. I definitely would recommend them. I want to update this review that I posted earlier. This is my second experience with this company. Each time the owner made promises that he failed to keep. The first time he was to refund me some money for something his crew did that they should not have. This most recent time, they never came back to do some minor roof repairs that could potentially cause my rood to leak. Also, one of the new windows does not operate properly. But the owner has not answered my emails and I have been waiting for several months for the roof service. My experience has been that once the company has their money for the main job, they are no longer interested in keeping their promises.

(member name removed), I think we need the whole story here. The refund that was given was because my company installed new gutters on the rear of the home after I repaired the fascia board that was rotten along with the rear wall. When installing the new gutters we found the home needed two downspouts instead of one that was priced.my company installed two downspouts that was needed to ensure that the water was flowing away from the home instead of one downspout that could have caused further problems latter on.I refunded her the money with no problem and absorbed the extra cost.My window installers fixed some minor roof issues that she had and did not even know about at no charge! My recomendation to Mary was to get a qualified roofer to fix the bad roof job that she had. If she has a window problem I will fix it right away. My phone number is 828-281-4663 I have not had a call about this problem Jim.

They were very professional, worked quickly, and did a fantastic job! This was an excellent deal but we would use them again for services even without a coupon. They took care to do one window at a time so the wind wouldn't blow into the house too much. After they were done Jim showed us how the windows worked. He also worked up an estimate to replace our remaining windows which we are considering. The Energy Star windows themselves are very good quality. I would highly recommend Carolina Home Exteriors!
Description of Work: Jim and his team put in the five windows we got through this great deal. They stripped out the old windows, installed the new ones, caulked around them and covered the exterior window frames with vinyl.

Jim ordered and installed 9 storm windows for our 1920's home. I wanted a product that would not take away from the character of the original glass windows. The Provia line is a quality window and the price was fair. Jim was very professional and helpful-even tried to fix a broken window for me. Everything went great.

The first time I met Jim the thing that jumped out the most was how serious he took his business and how committed he was to service. Whenever I use a new contractor it's always a bit of an adventure, but not with Jim. The first job was replacing 17 apartments worth of old metal casement windows. These had to be sawed out of concrete, the sills repaired, and then windows installed. Keep in mind, all of the apartments were occupied. He coordinated ALL of the work with the tenants, used plastic sheeting to cover the dust involved w/ cutting out the old windows and new sills, and did it all in just two weeks. I was dreading that job because I knew that it would involve frustrated tenants, drawn out timelines, and a big construction mess. Absolutely none of those things came to be, he handled it all perfectly. That was my first experience with Jim and Carolina Home Exteriors. Four years later he and his company have become my "go to" for ALL things windows and have done a great job on a few roofing and exterior painting jobs as well. Also, tenants typically do not call in to compliment contractors, but on large jobs that Carolina Home is involved with I get several per job. They are always so happy that he communicates when the work will be performed and the quality/professionalism that his workers exhibit....particularly in cleaning up after themselves. Jim and Carolina Home Exteriors have been an asset to my business and I recommend him to anyone that ever asks for my opinion on window installers, painters, or roofers.
Description of Work: Most recently, Jim replaced all of the windows on two mid-60s apartment buildings. In the past he has replaced windows for us at several large apartment complexes and he handles all of my window maintenance and repair items for all of our rental properties. His company has also installed roofs and painted buildings for us.

I began shopping for a new roof fall 2011. I met with several roofing companies, and received estimates from each. Carolina Home Exteriors offered me the best quality shingles for the best price. I drove by several jobs completed by Jim, the owner of Carolina Home Exteriors, and found the work looked beautiful. Thanks to the weather cooperating, and Jim's crew arriving on time each morning, the roof job was completed as scheduled in 3 days. Each day the area around my house was cleaned perfectly, so I never worried about stray nails in the driveway or my gardens. I was very impressed by the professional and honest way of doing business. Jim Mascari is a native of Asheville, who has lived and done business here his entire life. I believe in the "Buy LOCAL, Support LOCAL business here in Asheville"

They did an outstanding job from start to finish! From the first meeting to discuss estimates until the work was completed, Jim and his dedicated workers proved to be honest, reliable, and professional. They showed up when they said they would and even if there was a small delay due to road work or the weather, they would call and let us know when they would be here. The quality of the work done was insurmountable, they worked consistently from the time they got here until they left, and the clean-up was unsurpassed! We just can't say enough good about this business and would highly recommend them. If we ever need their services again we will not hesitate to give them a call!

I hired Jim because I checked several of his references and they spoke well of him, and because he offered ProVia storm windows and I was looking for high-quality storm windows. Unfortunately, working with Jim was a terrible experience. At every step of the way, numerous phone calls and emails were required to get Jim to do what he said he would do. Jim is a "yes man"; he wants to please and will say what you want to hear, but will not follow through. He would consistently promise to "call back tomorrow" or "come by Monday" and would not do it. This happened with regard to signing the contract; installing the chimney flashing; getting an honest answer about my storm windows (details below); and getting my deposit back. In each case, I had to become rude and semi-threatening to get Jim to take action; sending polite follow-up emails does not work; there seems to be no limit to how many times Jim will repeat the cycle of promising to call back or do something and not do it. The worst part of the experience was in regard to the storm windows. I signed the contract in mid-May, and Jim said the windows would arrive and be installed by early June. When I inquired in mid-June, he said the factory had a large order that had to be fulfilled before mine. I checked back in mid-July, and he told me that the factory had messed up the finish and had to re-do it. I followed up again in early August, and Jim said the windows had still not arrived. I asked for the factory's phone number and order number, and he said he would provide it. When I spoke to Jim a few days later, he said the factory had messed up the windows again and that he no longer wanted to use that factory because "something wasn't right" and the plant seemed to be "having issues." He offered to refund my deposit or order the windows from another manufacturer. His story sounded bogus and I demanded the factory's phone number. He told me he used a "direct line" to the plant that wasn't a public phone number. I persisted, and he said he would try to find a number and call me back. He called back two days later and confessed that the story had been a lie. He claims that he hired an inept office manager last spring, who never ordered my windows and then mistakenly provided Jim with updates about another customer's storm windows as though they were mine. Once Jim figured it out, he didn't want to admit it so he lied. Jim said he fired the office manager, and he offered to order my windows himself but I declined and requested my deposit back. Getting my deposit back took 3 weeks: Jim said "your check is in the mail", and 2 weeks later I still didn't have it. I followed up, and he claimed it must have been "lost in the mail", and once again I had to become semi-threatening. Jim responds to threats, and he brought my check by the next day. Now that I have my money back, Hendersonville Aluminum is going to install the same storm windows for $800 less than Jim, hence the "C" I gave Jim on price. Jim's references were genuinely positive, and he seems very knowledgeable about his work. (I believe the chimney flashing work was sound, though it's hard to say since it's on the roof.) But Jim lacks the office management and job management skills to run a business, and he lacks integrity. I do not recommend him.
Description of Work: I hired Jim for two jobs: (1) to replace my chimney flashing ($725), and (2) to replace 17 storm windows ($5,325). The chimney flashing work was performed; the storm window work was not performed and I ended up getting my deposit back.
