Chan promptly returned my calls and he always arrived at my house when he said he would. He was sincerely sympathetic concerning my position as a widow and that helped me through the process of dissolving my husband's library. I sold him 30 boxes of books and I believe I received more compensation from him than I would have anywhere else, and with as little effort and upset on my part as was possible. Chan bought about 30% of my books and he made calls on my behalf to the Friends of the Library, who were willing to come and remove the rest of the books as a donation. They boxed and took everything, even books which I am pretty sure will end up in the dump because of their condition. Still remaining are a number of bookcases which Chan is helping my find a buyer for. It's been a long time since I've seen such professional, personal service. I highly recommend Chan and The Captain's Bookshelf. Asheville can be proud of this business.
Description of Work: Chan Gordon, owner of The Captain's Bookshelf, came out to my house to look at my late husband's collection of books. I had decided to sell or donate his hundreds of books. Chan told me how he would work this process, first getting a general idea of what was in the collection, then choosing what he would like to buy, and how he would determine what money he would offer me for the books he wanted. At first I was hesitant. I did not know how much my husband's books were worth, and it was difficult to "let go" of his belongings. But I knew they were not my passion, they were my husband's passion, and they were doing no one any good just sitting in my house. I had read no other reviews concerning Chan but my gut instinct was that he was trustworthy.
