Description of Work: Was not on time when they gave a certain arrival time. Management was very good, but, individual workers was slack and non professional, due they said, to over booking. Perhaps so. Finished work was not perfect by any means.

I used this company more than a year ago, so I do not remember the experience in detail. I do remember that they had a large showroom with lots of choices. Our two types of flooring still look very good and are easy to care for. The fellow who put the flooring down was polite and cleaned up well after himself. I would use this company again. Prices were good.

Had good dialogue with Arnie talking about various options for flooring while in the showroom, then had him come out for estimate. Arrived on time, we talked some about specifics of the job. He was knowledgeable about what was needed and honest about issues he would need to check into (rather than making up answer). Very pleasant and professional. My only concern was at the measuring estimate which came in somewhat higher than other estimate I got. I would have no trouble going back to give them another shot if I had another flooring job.
Description of Work: Got estimates for installing hardwood/engineered flooring -- price came in a little high due to what appeared to me a slight overestimate on square footage. Chose another vendor

The quote process was involved since we kept adding to it. Eric was professional and dedicated to the job. Gerard did an amazing installation job and the stairs, which are prominent in the main living area, are a work of art! We love them.

They were okay, I give them a mediocre grading. There was a messed up with hard floor, they send it out a wrong color and they came back to fixed it but it ended up to taking about twice long as it was suppose too, but it ended up getting fixed, I wouldn't use them again though.

Aaron was responsive with a prompt and complete written estimate. He was not the lowest estimate but he sold us based on his design suggestions and promise to get the job done within a few weeks - we needed the job completed before the holidays. Aaron applied the Angie's list discount which reduced the cost by hundreds. Jody managed the removal of the old flooring and was very courteous and careful about clean-up and really worked hard to minimize disrupting the household. Aaron had to special order some of the material to meet our grade requirements, which took longer than he originally promised, but he eventually got everything as specified. Blue Ridge Floors has some very skilled and professional floor carpenters - Girard and Brett. They take pride in their work and it shows. The finishing crew had some minor flaws in their work, such as drip marks on the stairs and debris in the finish coat, but they were responsive about coming back numerous times to resolve. Aaron had arranged to have a detailer finish some work just before the holiday and she never showed up and did not let Aaron or us know. This resulted in some communication issues with the final completion of the job. When Aaron found out what happened he apologized and personally came out and took care of the final punch list and more. He went beyond the scope of the job and painted extensive trim around the stairs. He even did some very creative finish detailing that involved adding knots to the stair risers to better match the character of some adjacent reclaimed wood flooring. Aaron and Blue Ridge floors care very much about customer satisfaction and their reputation. We are very pleased with the way the completed job turned out.
Description of Work: Job as bid was to Remove old flooring in 2 rooms and hallway consisting of ceramic tile and engineered wood. Install new white oak floors and white oak #2 baseboards using random width boards on floors @ grade #2, install new solid wood stairs and risers in #2 grade. Coat of oil based seal then 2 coats of Bona poly. Included moving of stove, refrigerator and large furniture.

From beginning to end the process went well. The company was responsive and the quote on the mark. The installers worked hard and payed attention to detail. The first room's wood floor was floated over a concrete slab and the second was stapled to the existing plywood flooring. We are happy with the Anderson engineered floor wood and the excellent work done installing it. We evaluated three contractors and settled with Blue Ridge Flooring. Their great Angie's List reputation is well deserved. Everyone associated with Blue Ridge excelled in professionalism.

The floors look fantastic! Aaron and his team were professional, fun to deal with, attentive to our questions and timing issues, and punctual (even finishing a little bit sooner than we had planned). I would highly recommend them in the future and we continue to be appreciative of their work every on a daily basis as we are still (two months later) completely enamored with our floors! Thanks so much Aaron! Awesome!
Description of Work: Aaron and his team came into completely refinish the floors in 3 rooms as well as buff and clean 4 additional rooms and a hallway. The adjusted colors to align with the stain on some of the newer floors with much of the original reddish tones of the older pine floors.

From the beginning we felt that Aaron had a natural regard for us, the disruption this was going to cause and was forthright and honest about the difficulties that would result from Blue Ridge Floors' work. He promised to remove the bad wood and make the floor look like a new floor. He also said what could not be fixed, like tile extending into the rooms under the doors, another "hallmark" from the previous contractor. Blue Ridge Floors came through with flying colors. We no longer have to fear backing up in our chairs and having a wheel go into a hole in the floor or a having a sock snag on the wood as we walk across the bedroom. We just walk from room to room without thinking about anything except the beauty of the floor. We were called to review the progress at three stages of the work. We were greeted politely and professionally by all the people concerned. They started exactly when they said the would on Monday morning and had moved us in 10 days later on Friday at 3 as planned. The floors are gorgeous, even and matte-finished throughout. I had expected to be dusting the entire house from ceiling to floor, but they had used sanders to extract the sawdust and we had none of that residual problem. Blue Ridge even dusted the furniture that was stored in the bathrooms and had gotten a film from the sanding. They got every evidence that they had been here out, removing the debris bags and all the blue tape and plastic covers from the house. All that was left was the beautiful wood floor. I would hire them again without any reservation.
Description of Work: Blue Ridge Floors was suggested to me as someone who had gotten dood marks for customers by the insurance adjuster when she left after reviewing damage to our house. We had had two problems, a chimney leak that had gotten under the flooring and a whole-house hardwood floor put down by a lying, cheating incompetent (See review of New Dimensions, Black Mountain) who assured us that he could put down hardwood floors. He apparently didn't know what he was doing nor did he even sand the wood. He just painted polyurethane on boards that had knot holes, chatter marks and gaps between them, which became more evident with time as every board curled on each side, creating a cupped effect. There were dried puddles of poly in places and gaps where no poly was applied. All this and the wrong polyurethane, shiny not matte finish, was used in two rooms. In marked contrast, Aaron and his team were professional throughout. They met with us three times prior to the work to review the plan. first identifying 75 boards that had to be removed, then offering solutions and recommendations. Here is what they did for us: They arranged to move us out of our home and back in and included it in their price. They chiseled out the bad boards and replaced them with new ones. When Aaron noticed that his helpers had clustered too many "blond" boards together in one area, he called the crew back and told them to replace some of those with some darker wood. They sanded the entire floor three times, and filled the minor imperfections with with wood filler. They then put three coats of poly on the floors.

WE haven't yet done the floors--it will be another month before we're ready.
Description of Work: We called this company to obtain a rough estimate on the cost of refinishing hardwood floors based only on square footage. We did this to estimate how much to budget for the job. They called back very quickly, and gave us the information we needed. We are not yet ready to do the floors, but when we are, we will be calling this company for a quote. We were very impressed with their quick, professional response to our inquiry.

We added a bedroom in the basement of our home. Because we had concrete floors I needed to use engineered hardwood floor instead of traditional hardwoods like the rest of the house. Since this meant gluing the floor down I was concerned about the toxins and off-gasing - we have allergies - so it was important that I use someone that had experience with newer products. I asked Blue Ridge Custom Floors to come give an estimate and was very impressed with Aaron's knowledge, enthusiasm for "Green" products, fair price and timeliness for getting the job done. We hired him, he did a beautiful job. I have since recommended him to several others.

The work turned out alright. They estimated me $1200 lower than they actually wanted to charge me. They didn't show up on time. They wanted a key to my house to be able to get in whenever they wanted to. They took a week longer to finish than they originally promised. The owner showed up on the day they were supposed to be done asking for payment but I hadn't even checked to make sure everything was done correctly and they hadn't even finished the work properly. They had too many jobs going on at once and I wasn't a priority. This delayed me moving in to the property on time and delayed some other projects I had going on.

Response from Blue Ridge Floors
With regret to have to defend our company: Customer did intend to manipulate us into providing more labor and materials than she was paying for. We completed an estimated $550 worth of non-charged upgrades (without complaint from our staff) due to her stating that she assumed these things were included even though it was in black and white on the quote. The money was as always, professional dealings on our part. The numbers in her comments don't match our conversations or dealings. There was no change or attempt to change the cost whatsoever. We, as a company, have very strict rules against this. This was in addition to the $400 discount we took off the top of the price. The final check the customer wrote us for $3100 was returned “non-sufficient funds” and has been documented. We were locked out of the jobsite in early afternoon hours twice, and again one evening when we were scheduled to come coat the floor. We were never made aware that she would be locking us out at early hours. This did cause the job to run 2 days long on the 2 week project. The customer admitted to me at her place of business that she had exaggerated the report on Angie's list to be worse than the situation was because she had grown upset because of the schedule. With further investigation, we found that she has been manipulative with other contracting companies. We will refuse to work for this customer in the future.

Answered the phone the first time I called, was able to give me a ballpark estimate and set a time to come see my project immediately. Sent the guys to do the work when he said he would, and when at the end of the project one had forgotten to bring the quarter-round, he came out the next day and put it in himself. Also took away the old gross carpet. Great experience.

It went great. Aaron was always available to answer any of my questions and his workers were courteous, punctual, and were considerate during their work. They were also very flexible to work with any and all requests that I had. I shopped around before I decided to go with Blue Ridge and the reason I decided to use them was because of some of the positive referrals that I had heard about them and because their pricing was very competitive. I would highly recommend the team at Blue Ridge Custom Floors for any and all flooring jobs!
Description of Work: Blue Ridge Custom Floors sanded and finished my newly installed white oak hardwood floors on the main floor of my house. They used Bona Traffic and put 3 coats of finish on there for a roughly 1500 sq foot area. They also installed about 500 sq feet of bamboo flooring in my downstairs and they glued the floors down to my concrete foundation.
