He came out on a Saturday, gave an invoice and my husband said he was going to do the dowry that day. He didn’t. Promises were made about coming out to finish and were never kept. Weeks went by and we finally called, he said the work was completed, called, back, saying that no onky half. We said don’t, give us a refund that was promised and never came.

TERRIBLE! I firmly believe they lie to get business, especially if they think they are working with a 'dumb, old woman'. The very next day a possum was caught in the outside trap & they picked it up that Saturday & re-set the trap. That same day I had a handyman go up in the attic. He took pictures of the 'catch & release' traps, which were common large mouse traps, which would have broken the neck of any creature. These had only been placed around the entry to the attic. He went over & looked at the bed of leaves & said there were no animal droppings at all, and nothing to suggest an animal had actually been there. No insulation had even been disturbed, so obviously the tech hadn't done any actual looking. I called that Monday to cancel the agreement. He came out & tripped the attic traps so his fingers wouldn't get it, took the possum trap, and I got a refund of $261 out of the $650 deposit I had given them. Then he tried to tell me I had mice in the attic, but yet I knew there were no droppings. I actually think because I was lied to, I should get a full refund. I was totally astounded about the 'trap and release', that was a blatant lie.
Description of Work: I had been told in June that there were some leaves in my attic that looked like a fresh nest. I didn't contact Asheville Wildlife until the 2nd week in August as I was redoing a cottage. Technician said he thought I had flying squirrels in the attic and raccoon getting in a crawl space vent. He said he would set traps for the flying squirrels and "re-home" to a farm in Mills River where the farmer let them do that. He set a trap outside by the vent to catch the raccoon. I was given a long estimate for $1350 which included a 10% Angie's List Discount. He also tries to scare you by showing you pictures of 'bats in the attic' on his phone.

We are honestly shocked to see this review and very disappointed that you believe we lied to you or tried to manipulate you in any [Member Information Removed]. We pride ourselves on being honest and doing everything we can to solve our customers' wildlife problems. We feel that this review is unfair because you never mentioned your concerns and only assumed our intentions, therefore we couldn't address them or clarify our process. We do not work on commission and we weren't trying to charge you any additional fees. We were simply trying to solve your problem. When working with animals you have to be flexible and sometimes that involves using a process of elimination. We feel that the misunderstanding about the types of traps to be used, happened during the initial visit since you had to leave during the appointment and the conversation was somewhat rushed. With southern flying squirrels, you must check live traps at least every 12-18 hours during the summer temperatures. If we're unable to check traps this often, then the most humane option is to use an immediate lethal trap so they don't suffer in a cage. The technician was unable to confirm if you would be home to check the traps the following morning since you had left and was under the impression that you wanted us to do whatever was needed to get the squirrels gone quickly so you could start renovations. If you read your white copy of the paperwork that you signed, it states the types of traps to be used and says, "to be relocated to Mills River if removed alive". This shows there was a clear misunderstanding about your preferences & we were not trying to hide anything from you. We wish you had alerted us to this misunderstanding and we could have immediately switched to live traps. As for your handyman not finding any droppings, our technician also agreed that he did not see any which occasionally happens. However, he did note tunneling in the insulation & a "nest" of leaves that would indicate an animal has been in the attic at some point. Our technician only mentioned mice after not seeing any squirrel activity, but the bait on the traps was being eaten without the trap being set off and mice can also cause similar tunneling in insulation. Since we weren't charging you anything extra, adding additional services for free would have negatively impacted us not you. So, we're not sure why you are upset with us about this. We were attempting to do whatever was needed to solve your problem and make you happy. When our technician was showing you pictures of a bat job on his phone, it was in the context of a friendly conversation about what other types of animals we can remove. We don't use scare tactics & we are surprised that you interpreted the conversation that [Member Information Removed]. When we left your home, we were under the impression that you were happy, but didn't want to continue the work since we had trapped the opossum living under the home and it did not appear that squirrels were actively nesting in your attic due to the temperature of the attic in August. Only a small portion of the $1,350 estimate was for removing the animals. The rest of the estimate was for repairing gaps and damage to the home. On the phone, you agreed that $389 (the only portion we kept) was a fair price for the inspection, trapping the opossum, and visits to monitor the traps. If you had mentioned any of these concerns to the technician or our office, we would have immediately taken steps to clarify our process and to work with you on a solution.

In the beginning it went fine. First I have to say I really like Rusty and he is a very nice guy so i feel bad leaving this review but while he is a nice guy, he is not the best at running a business. So Rusty left some traps and bait stations and got me on a maintenance plan but he never came out to check on the traps or the bait stations to do the quarterly maintenance. When and animal ate through the bait stations I called him to replace them and he never came out. I called him again when I was having rodent problems again and he didn't return my calls. When I finally got through we set up a time for him to come to the house. I took off time from work to meet him and then he never showed up. I called him to find out what happened and he never returned my call. In the meantime the pest problem was getting worse. Needless to say I found another company to work with and so far they are very responsive.

We're sorry that you had this experience. It seems as though Rusty was trying to be helpful and work you in during our busiest season, but unfortunately it resulted in a lot of phone tag & a missed appointment. We're really sorry that it felt like you were getting the runaround. We have learned from this mistake and Rusty is now referring customers to make appointments through the main office number since it's easy for him to forget to write it down if he takes the call while on a job. Thanks for your feedback.

I have worked with Rusty and his team for the last 5 years on and off on rodent removal. However, this was the largest job to date. I enjoy working with this company so much. In fact, I trust them so much I leave out a key for them to come and go to do their work as necessary. This job was quite complicated as my roof line is very steep and has a lot of ridges. They did the job quickly, safely and actually worked with another company to fix another job I needed done and didn't charge me a dime. This job required large ladders and extra time on Rusty's part. DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!! They will treat you fairly and respectfully. They will do a great job. And they back up their work. You will be satisfied! If there was a grade above A, I would give it to them!
Description of Work: removed flying squirrels and red wasps from attic. Replaced soffit vents. Also, did major roof work where the wind and weather had raised roof caps and shingles. Replaced all these and nailed down securely to prevent squirrels and wasps from entering in future. Work has 3 year warranty.

We had an issue with flying squirrels. Rusty and his team sealed and corrected many ares of our home to keep the squirrels out after they had left some traps for removal. During their work, they also helped us with a mice issue and we are very pleased with the results. Rusty is very professional, responsive and knows his stuff!! We definitely recommend Rusty and his team!

He had to return 3 times to check traditional traps he laid as well as black box bait "houses." It took about 2 weeks for the mice to really die off, so it was a bit nerve-wracking as it was a 3 week process for my husband and I ----living in the house, but Rusty really did a conscientious job. I would recommend him and will call him again. The receptionist, Megan, we felt was totally professional and helpful. They were both a pleasure to deal with.

Rusty Russell was extremely polite and professional throughout the job. The work was delayed several times by winter weather. I was very impressed with the precision of their carpentry work. Cutting the plywood panels and fitting them under our house, pouring the concrete barriers, and doing all the other remedial work was made very difficult by the very steep slope on which our house stands. But Rusty didn't let that stop him. When they were finished they hauled away all the debris and left the site clean and neat. They gave us a 3-year warranty against any further wildlife intrusion. In summary...I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Asheville Wildlife Removal to anyone who is having a problem with wildlife intrusion into their home and would also recommend them for a Point of Happiness honor.
Description of Work: Around January 22, 2015 I called Asheville Wildlife Removal because of repeated dead animal smells beneath the interior stairwell that leads from our main level to the lower level of our house. The next day Rusty Russell came, removed a dead possum from under our stairwell, deodorized and sanitized the area, located numerous likely entry points, and recommended repairs to seal off the house from future wildlife entry. The needed repairs were SUBSTANTIAL, They installed about 520 sguare feet of plywood sheathing to cover exposed floor joists and insulation that was falling from under our downstairs bedroom floor. They sealed off a tunnel that critters had burrowed to get under our house, they sealed off all entry points, using metal, mortar, concrete, wire mesh and other materials.

I had bats on the exterior of a gable vent and evidence of roosting under the deck. Rusty spent probably an hour checking the attic, roof, 2 gables, 2 exterior vents and under the deck. It was a thorough review. There was no evidence of bat intrusion in the interior spaces or attic. He recommended covering 2 gable vents with heavy insect gauge covers @ 2 for $400, replacing ridge vents @ 1700, additional roof vents at 2 for $90, 2 dryer vent covers @110, ridge under gable in metal skirting @75, in addition to the $125 inspection for a total of $2,500 but would discount 5% or the $125 inspection fee so that brought the cost to $2375. In comparison in March 2011 at my other house I had 1 bat removed from an exterior gable vent and 5 LARGE angular gable vents covered with heavy gauge insect wire for $99 svc call & $250 gable covering @ $50/ large gable (almost 3xs the size of the gables referred to above) for a total of $349. The house is very tall--25 ft in places. There have been no further bat or other critter issues. I know it may not seem "fair" to compare houses but I felt the recent cost was exorbitant. Even to cover the small gable vents on the first house were way overpriced compared to the large vents I had covered in 2011. So I paid Rusty $125 for his time and recommendations but did not have the work performed.

We're very sorry that you found our prices to be higher than a company you used at another home, but we have no way of comparing ourselves to a different company in another city. We usually find that our prices are priced similarly or lower than our area competitors. Our prices are customized for each particular home or business. We look at several factors such a location, height of repairs, etc... For example, this home is located an hour away from our office with multiple repairs over 30ft. We also commonly find that we use a higher quality of materials & better craftsmanship than many other companies in our area.

We were impressed with the job until our neighbor's cat went missing. We'd had concerns that some cats might be living under the house, in addition to the groundhogs we were trying to relocate, so we'd discussed what they would do if they found a cat in one of their humane traps. The company owner Rusty Russell agreed to put any trapped cat in our garage in a carrier so we could take it around to the neighbors and see if it belonged to anyone. On Wednesday, September 24, the guy repairing our porch texted me to say there was a cat in one of the traps. I went over to the house, and there was no sign of the cat. I called Mr. Russell who told me that the cat had been taken to a barn in Leicester. I was surprised and upset. The next day, a flyer appeared on our porch. It was our neighbors searching for their lost cat Huey, missing since Tuesday night. I texted a picture of the cat to the workman who'd seen the cat in the trap on Wednesday and he confirmed that it was the same cat. At that point, I contacted Russell, asking for contact information for the place in Leicester, so my neighbors could go out there and call for their cat. He waited overnight before texting me back and then sent me a text telling me that the cat was actually released a few blocks away from our house in South Asheville. I asked why he had told me one story first and was now telling me a different story. He texted me, saying, "One of the other technicians was in the area & stopped by to check the traps for me. It was the 2nd time we have caught the same cat. I figured he took it to the cat folks by his place in Leicester but I spoke with him earlier & he informed me that it was a male cat & it was spraying & stinking but he didn't want to leave it in the garage due to the extreme urine odor that the cat had. So he let it go around the corner on Yorkshire Street in the hopes that it would find its way home instead of coming right back under your house again." When I spoke to him in person he kept mentioning the cat spraying. Our neighbor's cat was neutered, so I now think Russell was trying to prove that it wasn't the same cat. I believe my workman, though, who saw the cat in the trap, and said it was definitely the same cat pictured on the missing cat flyer. I asked to speak to the tech directly, and Russell agreed to give me his phone number, but didn't follow through. Russell later gave a third story: that the cat was released on our street, just a few doors down from our house. I think if the cat had been released on our street, or a few blocks away, it would have found its way home, as our neighbors live very close by. They have never seen their cat again. Russell gave us a full refund, "for the inconvenience," but has never told us what really happened to the cat. I wish him and his company no ill will. In fact, I wish them the best. I just don't want anyone else's pet to disappear due to his techniques for wildlife removal.

Our company removes multiple cats a month and we have never had any issues with removing someone's pet. We are committed to humanely removing all animals. The property owner stated that she was unable to find the owner the first time we trapped a cat and she let it go. This customer did not agree with our policy of taking cats to the animal shelter to be scanned/adopted, so we let all further cats go in the same area as well. If we had trapped the missing cat, then it would already be home. We tried on multiple occasions to explain that the cat we caught did not resemble the missing cat and appeared to be feral. Unfortunately, having an outdoor cat has many risks and we have no idea what happened to this family's pet. We sincerely hope it returns home soon.

From the very first call, Rusty was very courteous and professional. He responded in a timely manner and arrived exactly on time. We just moved into our home in October and obviously our tenants and the prior owner didn't mind living with scratching on the bedroom ceiling at 3:00 in the morning as we were told the squirrels had lived there for some rime. i swear the rascals were bowling up there! Rusty came promptly when called for an estimate and was very professional and polite. At first I thought the cost was sort of high until I saw what his company did to eradicate our pests-it was a bargain for all they did. All of his staff was polite and friendly. Being from the midwest, Rusty even gave us a "lesson" on North Carolina wildlife. We would hire him again in a minute.

We had noticed a stain on our ceiling, which we thought was from a roof leak, but no leak could be found. We started hearing animal noises in the attic above where the stain was, and made the connection that the stain was animal damage. We did not know what animal it was, except that it was something 4-footed. We called Asheville Wildlife Removal, who came out right on time when scheduled, and quickly determined that the culprit was a nest of flying squirrels. They also identified where they were getting in (a roof vent lacking it's animal guard, a defect on the builder's part), and found several other possible entry points, none of which I had been able to see until they were pointed out. As a controlled species, the flying squirrels had to be trapped and relocated. Rusty quoted me a price to relocate the squirrels and repair the damage, and another price to do that plus seal all the entry points. I chose the full deal. A trap was installed and the men came back and checked it daily for several days. No squirrels were caught, but the sounds stopped too. The squrrels were apparently "not home" at the time the trap was installed and it locked them out, which is fine. The men removed the trap, repaired the animal damage, and sealed up all the openings, also sanitizing the attic where the nest had been. No further problem since. The men were professional and courteous throughout, took care of our home, and did quality work. If ever needed, I will certainly use them again.

The job seemed to go very well, although it's hard to tell when someone is working in an area where you can't see for yourself. They found a hole in the siding that a squirrel had chewed, but no current squirrel activity. They put screening over the outside of the attic vents to prevent bats from hanging in them. They did a nice job and the screens are nearly invisible on the exterior of the house. They spent 2 days on the roof filling in and sealing all the places where critters could gain access. And they cleaned up the bat guano from both inside the attic and outside in my driveway. This is not something you should do for yourself--that stuff is dangerous! Both guys who were here were exceedingly polite, industrious, and pleasant to have around. I thought the price was a little high, but I had already received a $3300 estimate on the same job, so at that point who was I to argue with a mere $1000? I think they did a very thorough job and I'd recommend them to others.
Description of Work: I found evidence that bats had been in my attic and I called to have them removed. By the time Asheville Wildlife showed up, the bats had moved on. They inspected the attic interior and roof and siding and discovered many open spots where they could be accessing the space. They were very thorough in their inspection and suggested what could be done to seal the attic. They came back a week later to do the job.

All factors of the experience with Asheville Wildlife Removal went beyond my expectations.. Rarely, any more, is the level of service, consideration & value met at such a high level. Rusty & Cory were very polite, efficient, considerate & informative. They wore shoe coverings at all times while in the house & attempted to minimize our inconvenience. The cost was exactly as quoted on the phone with no surprises. I'm not accustomed to writing such a rave review such as this but anything less would be a disservice to Rusty & Cory.
Description of Work: Rusty & Cory did a complete inspection to determine where bats were in our house. This included the attic, chimney & eaves. It was determined that the bats were in the chimney & eaves. (The attic was clear of bats.) They also determined that the bats were entering our bedroom through the fireplace there (from the chimney). They blocked access at the chimney to prevent any more bats entering the house. Due to bats being a protected species, they couldn't eliminate the bats access to the eaves at this time due to the possibility of infant bats being trapped in there & adults not being able to attend to them. Therefore, Rusty & Cory will return in August (the infants will have matured) to seal off all possible entry points for the bats.

They caught a bird in the trap (a starling) and came back several times over the course of a few weeks to check and rebait the traps. They were very professional, answered all my questions, and wore protective booties on their shoes when coming into the house. They patched the four holes with a product to deter the birds and then used a concrete product to fill some other holes. They also used the concrete product to fix some loose bricks on my front steps. Then they also fixed the rubber edging to the garage that one of us had damaged when backing out of the garage! These last two repairs were not part of the scope of work so I was very appreciative. At first I thought the price was a bit high, but my house is very high off the ground which made this job quite challenging. Also they made four visits to my home and fixed several additional things.
Description of Work: I heard critters in my walls and ceilings on two levels and heard pecking noises behind my bed. Rusty and Corey came out and discovered four holes in my siding and roof fascia boards where they could be coming in to the house. They went into the attic and determined that we had birds and mice. They set traps on the outside of the house for the birds and told me that my terminix contractor should be able to take care of the mice.

It could not have gone better. The service representative was impressive: professional both in appearance and communication skills. When we showed him the area where our problem was, he immediately knew that it was groundhogs and explained what course of action was necessary to remove them. His first trip back was to set the traps, and he even covered them just in case any small pets might be wandering about. He made several trips back to check the traps, emptied them when necessary, and when he was certain that there were no more groundhogs, he sealed the entry points to the tunnels they had made. All of this was carefully explained and we felt good about the entire experience.
Description of Work: verified that our problem was groundhogs, explained what needed to be done for us to be rid of them, set traps, checked the traps numberous times, filled the tunnels/points of entry to eliminate the possibility of any further use.

Over the past couple years, we'd had wildlife in a dormer crawlspace, a couple snakes emerge from the fireplace, and most recently something small running around in the ceiling. The exterminator said his services didn't cover this, and one other call to another service a year ago got a nice return call and a no-show. We had to try something and found Asheville Wildlife Removal in the yellow pages. Gave them a call, and were immediately impressed with their politeness and courtesy. When they were delayed from their first appointment, they called and apologized profusely for the delay. And that service level persisted through the entire one-month service period. Once these guys have gotten rid of all the invading wildlife, they could open a school on how to deliver customer service. They set traps, and came back when asked to check and remove wildlife when we thought we'd heard a trap go off. All flying squirrels this time, but there was evidence of other critters at one time. They also sealed off the access points in the chimney where snakes had presumably had access. They always wore protective shoe covers while in the house. We would certainly call them again, even though they told us to call them immediately if we ever saw/heard anything going on.
Description of Work: Inspected the house for access points and evidence of current/prior wildlife activity. They gave a fair assessment and a fair price in advance. The returned when called to check traps and remove critters. Finally sealed up various access points, and offered to return promptly if we saw any evidence of further wildlife.

Pest ?droppings? were recently found in our attic. Thinking it might be RATS or another wild critter from our yard, I decided to get a professional person to handle the problem. However, it was important that the company address rats/mice/squirrels/etc. more than spiders, ants, termites. Also, it was important NOT to use poison or glue traps. On Angie?s List was a review for ?Asheville Wildlife Removal? that got my attention. An appointment was set up and appointment day arrived. The owner Rusty came with another man named Gary. They were punctual, courteous, clean (wore booties inside), and professional. (To be noted: they came in a truck that did NOT leave oil stains all over my driveway, which has been a constant problem with many workmen vehicles.) REPORT: Following their inside/outside inspection, Rusty and Gary gave a report. The droppings were identified as from a few mice. The problem was caught before any infestation. Since there were only 1-2 mice getting into our fairly new house, it would be hard to find an entry point as a mouse can get into a hole the size of a pencil?s circumference. REMEDY: (1) Set traps with bait, and (2) If problem persists, set up long-term rodent management on exterior perimeter of the house. Rusty and Gary said they would be glad to set traps for us (using food type bait, not poison). However, to save us money (since there weren?t any nesting evidence or lots of droppings) they wanted to know if my daughter and I would prefer to set traps ourselves with peanut butter or chocolate in the attic. My daughter is an avid ?animal? person (except for RATS!!!) and thought this a good idea. Our yard is large, sloping, and with a creek frequented by various wildlife. She would take any mouse caught to our back property and place it out for the wildlife to eat. We took that option. As for $$$: There was an upfront fee quoted at the time the appointment was made. I thought it was reasonable.
Description of Work: Rusty and Gary did an eyeball inspection of our house exterior initially. They came in and asked us more questions about our observations of the problem (time hearing noises, types of sounds, frequency, where, etc.). They then went into the attic and examined things. When completed, they discussed their findings with us and gave suggested remedies (see remarks below).

I have had a flying squirrels in my attic for several years now. For two years, I had contracted with Terminix to remove them but, the only thing they removed was money from my pockey! As the weather started to cool this year, the squirrels started coming back inside again and I decided to find another exteriminator that could do the job. I found Rusty and Asheville Wildlife Removal on Angie's List. I called him and told him my situation and he came out that day. He found numerous areas of damage and set traps. Over the next several weeks, Rusty removed over 5 live squirrels in traps and 4 dead ones that had fallen behind the sheet rock. He even had to remove some base board in a closet to remove dead bodies. He climbed around the outside of my house for several days sealing TINY holes where they were coming in. He was EXCELLENT to work with and was at my house within hours each time I called him. He is so nice and very respectable and was so professional at his job. His job, although pricy, includes a year's warranty from reinfestation. I would definately use Asheville Wildlife again and would highly recommend him!
