7I have never given a purely negative review on Angie's List, but my experience with Raleigh Geeks-ProTech was so hideous in every way that I feel the necessity to warn others about them. This is an unauthorized Apple repair shop that couldn't fix my iPad, destroyed it in the process, was unresponsive to my concerns as a customer at every level of management, was inappropriately defensive and verbally nasty, and lied about the condition of my property when they handed it back to me. I am considering what recourse I have to force them to pay restitution for the destruction of my property. I took my iPad mini to Raleigh Geeks-ProTech to repair a cracked screen on a Saturday early in July. It was in working order when I brought it in. Only the screen was broken. I had prepaid $149.00 for the repair by credit card over the phone and was told by Shane, the technician I had spoken to on the phone, that the repair could be done while I waited. When I got there, he told me it was too late in the day to start the repair. He was courteous about it. When I called on Monday, he told me the screen had been repaired, but in the process, the cable to the on-off button had been severed and he would order the part overnighted at no additional cost to me. Said the iPad would be ready the day after the part came in. Again, he promised to call when ready for pickup. Again, he didn't. The following Saturday, thinking the iPad must be ready, I went back to the shop to pick it up. Shane told me the part he needed was back-ordered and thought he might have it by the following week. I told him I definitely needed the repair done before Aug 1 for travel to an out-of-town conference. He promised to call. Again, he didnt. This went on for almost three weeks. Exasperated, I called again. The store manager answered and told me Shane was no longer employed there. He said he knew nothing about my iPad, but after an unpleasant exchange in which he accused me of all manner of things, agreed to look into the delay and call me by the end of the day. He didn't. When I called next, I was referred to the district manager, named Garrett. By this time, late in July, I was frantic about my August 1 deadline. I asked for the iPad and my money back, so I could take it elsewhere. He insisted that couldn't be done because he would lose money on the new "parts" he said had already been installed. He couldn't tell me when the back-ordered cable might come in. He became very angry and abusive when I told him just to remove the screen, return my money, and let me pick up the iPad. I was appalled by his lack of professionalism and indifference to the quality of the store's work. He finally agreed to remove his installed parts and told me I should come and get it. He said it would be in the same condition as when I had left it. When I came in, nobody in the shop could find the iPad for almost 20 minutes. When they finally did bring it out, it failed to turn on. They claimed the battery was dead, but they had no charging cable available to test whether it was working. They returned my money and I left, knowing in the pit of my stomach that they had destroyed my iPad, but not wanting to prolong y dealings with them.. When I got home, I tried charging the iPad. It did not work. Surprise, surprise...! When I subsequently took it to the Apple Store, they told me it was unfixable in its current condition and inele

They said they they were unable to retrieve any information from the hard drive, and then proceeded to install someone else's hard drive which was 8 years old. No where in the store does it say anything about installing refurbished or reused equipment. My husband believed that they would install a new hard drive. They would not return his hard drive upon request because they said that they could not find it. They had a very unprofessional attitude. They seemed to want to take people's computers in to tell them they couldn't fix them and use them for parts. My husband could have bought a new hard drive for almost as much as what he paid them.
Description of Work: They were supposed to check the hard drive on my husband's computer to see if they could save any of the information.
