I had evergreen come out to do an estimate for drainage and irritation install in July. Chris, the owner, said that I was picking a great time to do the work because I'd have plenty of time to overseed and fix the damage to the yard when they were done. I paid the deposit to get work started and then waited. And waited. And waited. No response to calls or emails asking when work would start. I was getting ready to take action against them when they showed up at my house and started digging. It was 2 months after I sent them money. It was already after I wanted to overseed. The work was estimated to take about a week. 3 weeks later, they were finally done. The yard was torn up. I didn't have enough time to fix it on the fall. I winterized the system, myself, because I didn't want to send more money to evergreen for work that might, eventually, get done. In the spring, I turned my system on and started seeding to fix all of the damage that was still left over. Now, it's May. My system sprung a significant leak between the irrigation meter that the city installed and a PVC valve that evergreen installed. Evergreen won't fix it under warranty because I didn't winterize with them. They want at least $300 to fix it... In a couple weeks. This company has terrible communication. They have terrible time estimates. And now it's become apparent that they don't stand behind their work. Stay far away from these guys. It's not worth spending your hard earned money on this many headaches.

I had been getting my yard winterized through evergreen for many years despite their services being pricy. Last winter, they improperly winterized my irrigation system, resulting in freezing of my pipes and breaking of the valve causing leaking and a lot of damage. They have not taken responsibility for this damage and charged me for coming out and not doing anything to fix it.

The reason we are not responsible for this damage is that the service was done in October. You reported your problem in March. If we had left the water on you would have had a broken backflow valve by December way before the end of March when you reported the problem. We have been doing business in the Triangle for over 25 years! We still service the same customers that we installed and serviced years ago. We are a small business and we are on a first name basis with most of our clients. I am sorry you had this problem. I hope that you will use us again. I am going to credit your account for a service call if and when you choose to do so. Evergreen

I have used Evergreen for about 9 years for my irrigation maintenance. Up until this spring, I have had no specific issues. When my water bill shot up to $351 after my system started up in May 2019, and I had exhausted all other possible causes of leaking at my house, I contacted Evergreen to check out the irrigation system. Chris said it couldn't be the system. When the tech came out, he found the system had been programmed incorrectly, instead of 1 of 4 programs set to water, 3 of the 4 were watering. Made sense to me because $351 is about 3 times what my bills ran in previous summers. When I got the bill for the visit (which included some repairs), I contacted the company to discuss the bill, and company's responsibility in the cost of water bill. Chris told me as the homeowner, that I bore the financial responsibility. When I asked about Evergreen's responsibility because the system was programmed incorrectly, he said it was set up on the same as previous year, but I'm still not clear on why last years water bills were ~ $120, and this years $351. How could it be programmed the same? He refused to listen. So I informed him he has lost a customer. And I hung up on him. I refused to answer a call back from him as he was clearly not interested in keeping me as a customer after I tried to discuss a clear programming error (admitted by the service person on 7/16/19) on Evergreen's part. Looks like from other reviews here that I am not the only customer dissatisfied with Evergreen and Chris's customer service.

Owner very slow to respond, if at all. Very unprofessional. IShabby work done. Mistakes made, including breaking a pipe causing water to spill out for 24 hours, until we stopped it ourselves. No apologies. Workers also very unprofessional. Trash left in yard. One worker threw a rock at my dog and hit him in the face. Owner defended this worker with a racist stereotype. He wouldn't take him off the job per my request, He only did so after I told him my HUSBAND wanted him off the job. Needless to say, we will never be using this company again.

Satisfactory irrigation work. Business practices could be improved. / / The job was complicated by tree roots and took repeated visits to get right. Each time the company was very responsive. All technicians were professional and courteous. After the work was done, some sprinklers were spraying onto the driveway or into the street or were not reaching the entire lawn. A technician came out to fix the issues, and he told us everything was working properly before he left. / / Two months later, we noticed one of the sprinkler heads was not working (we had pointed out that sprinkler to the technician during the previous visit). When we called Evergreen, they were quick to repair it, but we were billed for the repair. We thought it would be covered under warranty. I contacted the owner (Chris Fortunes) about this. He explained that we had only been charged for the time and materials used on the previous job, which did not include this sprinkler. / / Areas for improvement: 1) Better communication–Apparently we were not charged for the sprinkler that had not been repaired. However, being told by the technician that everything was done left us not taking action on a needed repair (until we noticed the grass drying out). The better business practice would be to let us know they did not get to that repair or were not including it in the job. (Not sure if this was a language issue with the technician, though we gave him a detailed diagram). 2) Better accuracy with estimates and billing – Our bill was almost double the estimate. Because of the complications, a higher cost is understandable. However, we were not informed of additional costs before work was completed. Evergreen would rate higher if they provided a more accurate, revised estimate once the situation has been assessed (roots, additional rotors, etc.) so the customer can decline the work in case he finds the price unreasonable.
good work although I still feel the service is a little "pricey"

Instead they put heavy deposits of lime in some places and completely burned up the grass. They showed up in my backyard. "I can't help it if some d*** old lady didn't hear her doorbell and answer the door." The man was in my backyard and never contacted me by ringing the doorbell or knocking. They came out to put down a treatment that cost me $440.00 and ended up burning my grass. ?I have tried to contact them multiple times to get the work corrected. I signed a contract for 7 treatments and he did one that ruined my yard. When I told this guy that I was going to call Angie's List. He said he didn't give a d*** who I called. I have filed a BBB complaint on them as well and he didn't respond to it either.

This was not the first time we used Evergreen for our yard work...they had just complete irrigation and resodding in our front yard and utilized them again for the standing water problem we had in our back yard. The street we live on is a slight hill and we live at the bottom so we got all our neighbors run off. Evergreen/Chris came out, evaluated the yard and knew what to do right away. Chris and his staff were quick to follow up with a date to do the work - they laid more tiling and tubing, as well as tweaked the slope of our yard in a few places to adjust the flow of the water. We have not had a problem with the run off since.
Description of Work: For this visit, Evergreen added additional tiling and tubing for the water issue we had in our back yard.

I set up the appointment. The guy came on time and it was about to rain. Scheduled again because of the rain and he showed up on time again. When the bill came it was a little to high. Called him again and asked why he was charging so much, since we had to come a second time that is why. His technician said it wasn't a problem for him to come a second time because of the rain.

Very impressed with the quality of work and parts. They spent three days in 95 degree weather trenching and installing the system (Juan was the lead and did a terrific job). There are virtually no signs of trenches or residual dirt. In certain areas they had excess dirt but raked it smooth. They even filled in an area under my driveway that had washed out. Chris came out at the end to review the settings and show me how to make adjustments. During the visit he noticed that my well pump was cycling on and off during watering so asked his crew to come back out and replace the orifice size on each head (to avoid strain on the pump). Above and beyond at every step. Price was also a very important factor. I was concerned about using the lowest bid (not including the 10% discount he offered for being an Angie's List member). At the end I was very glad to have used Evergreen - the value and quality were beyond exception. I highly recommend them to anyone considering an irrigation system. It might take them a few weeks to get you on the schedule but well worth the wait.
Description of Work: New irrigation and drip system around my residence. There were a total of six zones with approx four rotator heads on each zone. All components and controller were Rainbird brand with 3 yr warranty. Overall appears to be a great product.

Overall the price Chris quoted was great and well within our budget. The work they did was done quickly and with expertise. Our yard looks incredible and is definitely a major upgrade to what we used to have back there. We'll also begin using Evergreen's fertilization program so we can maintain the beautiful work they did. I'll continue to use Evergreen for our landscaping needs and highly recommend Chris and his crew.
Description of Work: Evergreen came out to our house for a drainage issue we were having. Chris(owner) quoted us on putting in a drainage system and then once we had that done we wanted a quote on adding top soil to our backyard(to level the yard from issues caused by the bad drainage) and to add new sod over the top soil. http://www. .com/

The installation went fairly well although we were disappointed that they didn't dig trenches to install the irrigation pipes. Instead they cut slits in the soil and dragged the pipes into the ground. While this minimizes the tear-up of the yard (a short term issue) it puts strain on the pipes (a long term issue). They gave me a 5 year warranty on parts and a 2 year warranty on labor. I asked the business owner, Mtr Fortunes, if there were any requirements on my part for the warranty, specifically did I need to hire them to winterize my system? He told me that I did not need to hire them, that it was sufficient for me to winterize the system myself. I asked him to write the terms of the warranty into the invoice so that there were no misunderstandings later on. He added this as a line item in the invoice. The first year of operation we had a leak in the system, Evergreen came out and fixed it under warranty. The next year we had a leak (at the same spot) they fixed it and later sent me a bill for $250. I contacted Mr Fortunes saying that there must be some mista, I told them of the problem and they [promptly fixed it the system was still under warranty. He responded by saying that my warranty was void because I hadn't hired them to winterize my system. I reminded him that he had told me that this wasn't a requirememt/ This year a leak developed in my system at the shutoff valve. I noticed this some time after I had winterized by system. I called Evergreen to repair the leak. The came out and repaired it and then sent me a bill for $250. I contacted them and reminded them that I was still under warranty. They indicated that they would not warranty the system because I has not had it maintained by them. However, I had even asked Mr Fortunes before the signing of the contract if I needed them to maintain the system for coverage and he quite clearly said no. The contract had no conditions on the warranty which was consistent with what he said.
Description of Work: Evergreen installed an irrigation system for our yard and garden areas. They also installed a French drain to capture run off from my neighbors yard.

I wanted to respond to your complaint about our company. The only negative one we have ever had on craigslist. The only reason you were asked to pay for this repair is that you never had any preventative maintenance (winterization services) done to the system by Evergreen. Therefore your warranty is voided. In order for us to stand behind your system we must know that the system has been taken care of properly. We send our customers winterization reminders twice each fall by email and mail to remind them to have this service done. Your system was never serviced in the two previous winters prior to your leak. You have now had the system 6 years and I would hope that is has served you well other than this problem you had in year 3. Chris Fortunes Owner Evergreen Companies

I spent a lot of time doing research on this project. I had estimates from 3 contractors and an initial engineering analysis prior to purchasing this home. The problem that needed to be corrected was that the ditch area in my front yard was too steep to mow. It was virtually impossible to maintain due to a number of reasons. I knew that installing pipe and burying it would be a good solution, but I also knew that this would be relatively expensive. I had used Evergreen about 6-7 years ago to install an irrigation system at my prior home. I knew that this job would require irrigation work, so I called Chris (owner) to come give me some advice and a quote on doing the irrigation work. While he was there, Chris explained to me that his team could do the entire job so I asked him to bid it. Despite the fact that I was happy with his prior irrigation work, I never thought of Chris' company as a 'landscape' contractor. His bid was the lowest, but this is definitely not the reason that I chose him. In the end, I was going to spend between $10K and $12K, and getting it RIGHT was more important to me than saving $1K here and there. After I got the estimate, I checked references for this type of work. Chris had not done a job exactly like this before, but he had done several drainage jobs for other folks and the responses were uniformly positive from the references. So, I dived in and selected Evergreen for the work. Chris indicated that the job would be approx 3-4 days. The first day they showed up and delivered about 3 truckloads of fill dirt and topsoil. They then began shaping the yard to rework the drainage flow. Next came modifications to the sprinkler system and installing the new zones. Finally, the sod arrived and they spent about a day and a half laying sod and working the seed/straw. We did this work late in the year. I was a bit concerned because the underlying ground stayed 'soft' through almost the Feb/March timeframe. Chris kept telling me to be patient and that it would firm up when things warmed up. Eventually, I realized that he was right and things are fine now. Even though we planted a large amt of fescue from seed in early November, we had great results with the seeded areas and all of the grass came in really well. I have been pleased with the results. I have gotten lots of compliments from the neighbors and I no longer risk life and limb just trying to mow the ditch in the front yard! I have posted some pics below trying to show the before/after photos. I don't have a recent one, but things continue to look nice and I plan on having Chris come back this year in the fall and do some work in the back yard for me. I would definitely recommend him and I am convinced that his team can handle many more things than I would have initially given them credit for! Overall, this was a great experience.
Description of Work: Install and bury approx 240 ft of double wall, corrugated pipe into ditch. Install approx 25 pallets of fescue sod. Seed remaining area of lawn and cover with straw. Re-contour front yard for effective drainage. Install new irrigation zone (5 rotor heads) and replace/reconfigure 2 existing irrigation zones (13 heads total).
