Fixed the problem but think he overcharged for a compressor that was under warranty.
Description of Work: Gave no initial estimate and as we were in crisis mode, we just told him to fix the problem.. Charged us over $1250 for the work with no explanation for why the price was so high. Had to replace a compressor, but the compressor was under warranty. Would not break down the bill for us into labor, hours worked, price of freon. We asked another HVAC company if the bill was appropraite and they said that no it was probably $400-$500 too high. Still cannot a break down in writing.

I called them and was told it would be the following afternoon before they could come out because the were very busy (not a problem it's that time of year). Afternoon came and went with no call so I called them. Said it would be the next day as the job they were on took longer than expected (no problem, that happens). Next day same as first, no call - no show so I called them. Same answer. Third day starts the same as the first ( no call no show so I call them. Your catchin on now) . This time they had a guy stop on his way home, about 6pm. Very nice man, very knowledgeable and polite, apologized for the situation. Found a hole in the copper tubing on the outside unit, repaired it and filled the system with refrigerant, tested everything and crawled under the house to check a valve that was sticking. All is well that ends well?? Not quite. I needed another repair on this unit July 7. Called and got Doug's (think he's the owner, haven't figured out who Walt is) voice mail so I left a message and never got a call back. Called them the next day (do u see a pattern here) and talked to Doug. He said he never got a message from me and didn't know anything about it. That, fellow Angie's list friends, was the end of Walt's Modern Service for me. I don't want modern service I want good old fashioned customer service.
