Austin Family Handyman Services

They started out great. My deck was almost finished and everything went to h***. Long story short. They never finished the deck and we are out $2000 for a fence that they never built.

My husband and I found Austin Family Handyman on Craigslist in May of 2013. Lisa Austin wrote up an agreement to build our deck for $1500 in labor, $1500 in supplies, then an additional $800 to stain the deck once the building was complete. We received the first shipment of supplies from Lowe's which came to $1203.00 and throughout the month of May the Austins built our deck. The project was moving very slowly. At this time we were also asked for additional money for supplies on the premises that we would be provided receipts, so we provided the additional funds but still have not seen any proof that our money was used to buy supplies for our deck. Toward the middle of June, my husband and I had plans to go out of town and by this time the Austins had been working on the deck for a month and a half! We wanted it wrapped up before we came home so we paid the final balance before we left. Well, when we returned nothing was done. The Austin's then continued to feed us false promises all summer about coming back to finish the deck. Once September came around, it was getting harder and harder to get a hold of Lisa Austin about finishing our deck. At this point in time, we have no contact whatsoever. We have made repeated attempts to contact them to come to a resolution but our calls are ignored, our messages left unanswered. We ended up having to file a complaint with the BBB in hopes of reaching a resolution that way, and this complaint is still in progress. The Austin's have a facebook page that led me to contact several other dissatisfied customers who have all experienced the same issues with Lisa Austin. In total we have paid the Austins $4780.00. We have one receipt, which Lowe's provided us, for $1203.00 and Lisa and Don completed $1500.00 worth of labor. They have walked off with the remaining $2,077. I have documentation and proof for everything that I have written, including conversations from Lisa herself acknowledging that she needed to return to finish the job. The most frustrating thing is that despite not finishing the job at my house which is paid for in full, the Austin's are still advertising on Craig's list! Do yourself a favor and do not use this company. My husband is a hardworking Soldier, and if this couple is willing to rip off a Soldier they will rip off anyone.
