I need to revise a previous review. Jim did do excellent work. His cuts were absolutely plumb, straight and horizontal. Previously I made a statement regarding the precision of his cuts and that was only due to one cut extending outside of the area necessary to install the window. I previously stated that I would not use Jim again, which is misleading. I merely meant that, being fairly handy myself, I would feel confident enough to do the same job myself in the future after having seen how it is done. As far as the quality of workmanship, I have no significant reason for criticism. The final product is excellent, complies with code, and provides much better lighting for our future basement bedrooms than what was there before.

We hired Jim to cut a number of large diameter holes in our new house. We built a ICF (insulated concrete form) house and it was easier to drill the holes after the concrete was poured. Jim had no problems with the styrofoam. I think Jim has the experience to deal with any concrete cutting job out there. I would definitely use Jim again when the time arises.

I contracted with Barrett Concrete cutting to install two egress windows. I was only able to get one competitive bid and did find that his prices were reasonable. Having been a cabinet builder and personally done a number of construction-type projects, I tend to be a bit of a stickler on details. While I may have exacted more of myself with respect to precision of cuts and quality of work, I am satisfied with the quality of work as performed by Barrett Concrete Cutting. Besides, cutting concrete is not in my field of expertise. Jim was prompt in getting back to me regarding my project. He came and performed the work before I even got a call back from one of his competitors. To be fair, I usually move fairly decisively on things like this, so unless someone responds quickly, they are not likely to have a chance to work with me. The one source of dissatisfaction is with how quickly the work got done. Having spent some time in the contracting business, I can appreciate that there are some challenges with securing good help, and tools sometimes require maintenance/repair. Both these challenges manifested during work on my home and slowed progress some. Despite that, there were no serious concerns/time constraints for our project. Jim was generally good about communicating the timeline of the job and keeping me informed on any challenges along the way. To the best of my knowledge, he fulfilled his end of the contract quite well, even with some of the indecisiveness he had to deal with from me and my wife. Overall, I am satisfied with the work that was done and appreciate the extra light in our basement. We are well on our way to having the finished basement project that we wanted thanks to Jim.

Owner requested special order windows that took over 6 weeks to get in. I worked on the digging and cutting portions prior to the windows getting in. Once the windows were in everything went smoothly and quickly. Both during and after the job Mr. [Member Name Removed] did not tell me he was unsatisfied at any point. This review took the elastic out of my shorts. I know my workmanship is unsurpassed by any competitor. Possibly cabinet builders have a higher threshold for rough framing? The cutting cannot be compared to, as if was level and plumb and could not be done any better. I provided top quality workmanship in my concrete cutting, framing and sealing of window. The digging was about two feet deeper than any previous window because of the high basement ceilings and code requirements. I installed about 2 yards of gravel in the bottom of each hole for a French drain. I provided a lot of free landscaping to cure prior grading problems to level a big valley in his lawn Work was completed timely. Pricing was very competitive. There isn’t anyone I compete with who can compete with my workmanship. Period. My track mounted diamond saw provides the fastest and most accurate cuts available in the US today.

I needed an egress window in my 70 year old house in Cody, Wyoming. Jim Barrett did a great job at a fair price. He even reconstructed my old knotty pine paneling around the window!

Jim was hired to put in Egress windows. In the process, he was able to repair a foundation crack that was a problem for water leaking into our basement. He is very knowledgeable and does the job right. He put egress windows in our basement and trimmed out the window on the inside. He does a great job with the french drain and guarantees his work. I recommend Jim for egress window jobs. His price is fair too.
Description of Work: We had Jim dig out 2 egress window wells in our basement apartment. We had him do our second Rental because he is good at what he does.

[Member Name Removed] was very pleasant to work for. After job was started I found cracks and a very rough foundation to work with and a crack. I notified client and we added the crack repair and a French drain as they said they had flooding previously. Client was easy to work with and paid promptly after the city’s inspection. They hired me to do two more the next year.

We found Jim Barrett on Craigs list through a add for roofing, he said he was a general contractor and was licensed and insured. That he could do any thing when it came to construction. We agreed on a price around 18,600 plus the cost of new vents. Over the next month and a half if not longer they worked on our apartment building and its garage and shed. We had just had the roof done the year before and the cost was around 15 to 16 k that my brother did for us. Then a big hale storm came through Billings and damaged our new roof. Jim said 2 weeks that was a joke i guess. There were lots of days when no one would show up to work and other days that some of the younger guys on the crew would show up but not have any direction on what they were supposed to do. Jim kept blaming his crew but when it comes down to it who is in charge of the crew the BOSS is and he was the boss. After the work was done it was a few weeks before we got a bill, and the bill was like over 3400 over what he quoted. He said it was due to there needing to be 8 squares having to do the shed which was in the original quote, and the roof vents. This was a major problem for our family because money dose not grow on trees at my house we did not have it. It was over our budget. I called him we talked it down but only like 500 bucks. We paid him as much as we could and were at the original quote. I told him that he would have to take payments that's all i could do. Still unhappy with this price I started to look in to the roof vents that he had installed I believe they were called worley vents in short they are powered by the wind and that helps circulate the addict of the house. He told me he was getting his supplies at home depot I checked on the price there the vents were only like 35 bucks he was charging like 500 bucks to install them i then did some home work on the vents and found they were almost like a regular vent to install other than you needed a level to make them level as per the internet it said no more than one hour to install them. When I asked him about it he just shook his head and said he did not know the vents were that cheep and knocked like 50 bucks a vent off. We thought he was going to give a a deal and do a good job after the work was done I went up on the roof and walked around it for the most part it seemed fine but there was one place that felt soft and spongy which makes me think that there should have been some of the roof deck replaced that is why i gave him a C on the report other than that it would have been a B. Long story short I feel ripped off by this guy i feel he is always changing his story and I would never NEVER use him or suggest him to anyone. He clams to have lost his shirt on this job that would be his own fault due to how he runs his business. There have been many roofs done in our neighborhood since ours they have all been done within 1 week, my brother did it by him self in 2 weeks Jim took over a month and a 1/2 and wants to complain about not making any money. My suggestion is to stay away from him at all cost. I'm just glad its over.

Job was completed and approved. Client was upset with pricing on Whitley vents. I installed four at $125.00 , the standard rate set by insurance companies. I adjusted pricing $500.00 Under threat of non payment and it was agreed upon. Client said he would pay when he was paid from work as he already spent the insurance money. Client wanted another discount as he said he didn’t have enough money.. I told him everything was to code, inspected, approved and he was paid in full. I said I wanted to be paid. Client paid myself under threat of lien and lawsuit as we had already sat down and had a meeting of minds on reduced payment. then years later I see this review. Client was paid the full amount, spent it, tried hammering myself on price again, under threat of non payment, then paid me, then slandered myself. I tried contacting client. Client moved out of state and I cannot contact him to withdraw this false claim. Client added the garage after the original agreement and I completed. Everything was in writing prior to start. Client knew pricing. Work was approved. Client spent the hail insurance money and I had to wait three months to get paid. I hoped the $500.00 reduction would speed payment up. We met over lunch and hashed through all points. My work met contract specifications as agreed upon and passed inspection. I reduced price to get timely payment. They had a mansard roof which is much slower work than standard 4/12 roofs. Work completed to contract requirements and inspected by city and passed. Client spent money and tried hammering me down to balance his checkbook. They would not have paid if any of the items mentioned were valid and truthful. I had to wait several months to get my full payment as they spent the hail insurance money.
