Description of Work: I hired Jess Nuttall. A price was agreed on. First day he complained he could not do it for that amount. He continually changed the agreement as days went by saying it took more time than expected. He wanted to clear up account before done so I have him more than the agreed amount and there was still a lot more to do. My son approached him, told him he was taking advantage of 81 year old woman and asked how much more to finish. He said $250, but when he came to me for closure, the figure was twice that much. Since I had not talked to my son I did not know of the agreement, but this gentleman did not mention the discussion either. I just feel that he is not honest. Also, I should not have paid him before it was done.

Description of Work: Jess is a very kind person, detail oriented and knows what he is doing! My issue lies with the amount of time it took him to complete the job. I should have gotten an estimate from him on paper and not verbal for what it would cost per job and not per hour period. The job took longer than I expected and the cost much more than I would have ever thought it would be. He put some wain's coating up, (I stained it, he measured, cut and placed on wall.) He painted some walls and put some shelves up. The shelves were already cut and ready to put up. He charged $35. an hour. The painting could have been done in just a few hours. (I have painted several walls and know what is needed, how long it takes etc.)Once the waines coating is measured and cut it is tongue and groove and goes up pretty fast. It took Jess a long time to do a few things. It cost over $2500. (I paid for all materials THIS WAS LABOR ONLY) to complete the job which after getting an estimate on paper from another contractor (after the fact) to see if I was way off would have only cost me appx $750. The issue lies with by the hour instead of by the job. I would use Jess again because HE DOES DO A GOOD JOB, very friendly, knows what he is doing, however, I would definitely go by the job and NOT by the hour.

 + -1 moreI am a single woman and a professional engineer. That means that although I could probably do most of my 'handyman' work, I do NOT have the time to. That makes it tough for hiring individuals who think that just because I'm female, blond (I really am) and work out of my house that I'm rich and stupid. We all know the types.... However, Jess was not like that. I actually liked him. He was professional, punctual and knowledgeable. His prices were fair. However, I asked for a written estimate and never received one, therefore I did not use him for the job that I needed. I have found a different 'handyman' in the area that I work with.
Description of Work: He did not perform any actual work.

 + 0 moreJess did a good job - we started out knowing each other - but I did not know he was a "handyman" - found him on Angies list and I hired him - we are now real friends! I do recomend him! He can do just about anything having to do with a building.
Description of Work: Jess did major remodel of our bathrooms - cutting into concrete for drains and building walls.
