We had an exceptional experience working with Ken from Oliver Wood Works to create a custom coffee table for our living room. From start to finish, Ken was incredibly professional, attentive, and skilled. He took the time to understand our vision and preferences, offering valuable insights and suggestions along the way. The craftsmanship of the final product surpassed our expectations - the attention to detail and quality of materials truly shine through. Not only is our new coffee table a beautiful addition to our home, but it's also a testament to Ken's dedication to his craft. We highly recommend Oliver Wood Works and Ken's expertise to anyone looking for custom furniture. Thank you, Ken, for exceeding our expectations and creating a piece that we'll cherish for years to come!
Ken had a competitive bid, slightly lower than the others we called. We started the remodel in late June/early July 2010 with the goal of being completed by August. The first three weeks went well, but then walling took a while as we had wet weather. The plumbing also was poorly done and we had to call the plumber back about three times to correct errors, fix leaks, etc. A poor setup caused a water hammer that ripped the pipe out of the wall in the upstairs bathroom, for example, and ruined our kitchen faucet. Around the end of July it was like Ken disappeared. We saw the drywallers occasionally but heard nothing from Ken. Once the drywall was finally done we painted ASAP so we could finish up the trim etc. we painted over Labor Day weekend, but the trim wasn't finished until November, once we threatened to sue. He must have gotten a better paying job elsewhere as far as we could tell. We kept trying to get a final inspection set up through him with the city to clear out the permits but he never returned our calls. We eventually called the city ourselves and got the inspection. Everything was done well but I don't think it was worth the hassle. I'd have gone with the more expensive guy if it would have saved us the frustration.

I believe the price I listed is not correct, but whatever the price was, it was worth it. We use Ken & Oliver Woodworks for a lot of our household issues and maintenance. Ken Oliver is a hard working professional. Not only under-budget, but on time, friendly, courteous, and respectful. I have never heard a bad review about Oliver Woodoworks, until the one I saw here on Angie's List. I have to disagree with that user. While I do not dispute the damages, hardship, pain, and suffering they may have endured, I do dispute the claims that Ken & his company were unprofessional and hard to reach. It may take a day, but Ken has always responded back to us about our household issues and applied help whenever we needed. I do not know a contractor or a repair person that has not taken time to respond sometimes. They are busy and do have other jobs aside from mine. While I have never had a giant remodel or construction project done by Oliver Woodworks, I have had small repairs done, which were always done professionally with quality and care. I have, and continue to, recommend Oliver Woodworks.

We chose Ken based on our electrician's recommendation and his fair price. Work was supposed to take place from late June to early August. Things went well for the first month, July 2010, where we got framed and plumbed, but then he apparently got a better paying job elsewhere. He became increasingly hard to reach even as we had flooding problems in the basement and problems with our new pex pipes not being attached to the framing, causing drips and water hammer. We finally got drywalled by September and chose to paint ourselves, which we did all in one weekend. We then had to wait until nearly the end of November to get the trim work and carpentry done, and that took the threat of a lawsuit. We are still waiting on the final inspection from the city despite repeated calls to schedule with him. The work that was done is very good (except the plumbing, which we've had to have fixed), but his unresponsiveness makes him impossible to work with.
Description of Work: We wanted our basement finished and some general remodeling done. We added in a laundry chute and completely finished our unfinished basement (framing, plumbing, plaster, carpentry, electric, egress window installation).
