Problems started when a hole was drilled for the air gap after the granite countertop was installed. The hole was not aligned properly with the pre-cut on the cast iron sink and, as a result, a chunk was bored out of our brand new cast iron sink, which voided the warranty. We then agreed that he would return and install a soap dispenser to cover the hole. When he returned, he improperly shimmed the dispenser and it ended up crooked. After several days, we also noticed a dark ring growing around the dispenser. After removing the dispenser, I found that he plugged the hole with plumbers putty which leached into the granite due to its petroleum base. I ended up having to remove the stain myself and redo the soap dispenser install so it was straight. In addition, when I mentioned to him that he installed the kitchen faucet off-center, his reply was that my cabinets are probably not centered on the wall, either. At this point I told him to measure the distance from wall to the cabinets and they were indeed centered. I was dumbfounded at his lack of customer service and disregard for the quality of his work. We also found out later that he used construction adhesive to attach the counter tops to the cabinets. After speaking with other granite installers, we learned that this is not typical and that silicon is preferred because it flexes and will not damage cabinets if you need to remove the counter top. I would recommend other options if available.
