He provided us with a bid. We received bids from a few companies. He is on the approved list with the local electric co-op. His bid was the most financially competitive. We submitted his bid to the co-op, and we were approved for a loan based on his bid. Once we accepted his bid, he phoned us, and verbally told us he would need another $2,600 to complete the work. In my opinion, this is highly unethical. Your bid is your contract. If you make a mistake with your bid, it is still your responsibility to honor the contract and do the work. We could pay this much, but we won't go forward with him. Who knows what else he would pull down the line.

Description of Work: About 4 years ago they installed a Lennox furnace and a programmable thermostat. As time goes on there are more and more problems with the thermostat going into Recovery Mode every morning. At first they said it was because the filter needed changing. Then we had to pay for service calls. At one service call they figured out that some installation shavings were actually plugging up a drain tube. They did not charge me for this, and they refunded the service charge for the previous service call because I asked for it. But, we still have the problem of it going into recovery every morning. I was told this was because it needed to relearn how to heat the house. This happens even when there hasn't been big changes in the weather. This has been happening every morning now for over a year. I just found out that they lost their Lennox dealership. This is probably why they were not interested in talking to me when I called this past January. I will not use them again, and I will not recommend them to anyone.

This company was chosen because it was the only one covered by a national home owners insurance policy that was included with the purchase of my new home. They installed the hot water heater. Two young workers installed it and the admitted that they NEVER installed a hot water before. The installers damaged the first hot water heater, so another had to be ordered. The gas company inspected the installation and it FAILED because they had used black pipe for the connections. The connections for the hot water heater and the pressure tank failed in 14 months ......... Bill's Super Heat REFUSED to repair because they said it was a plumbing problem and they were not licensed plumbers and they were not responsible for any plumbing connections. My big question is HOW in the world can you install a hot water heater without plumbing ?????????
Description of Work: Inspected and serviced furnace. Installed new hot water heater.

Make sure you have everything in writing and signed before proceeding with this company. However, even that may not work if you run into issues with this company. Bill’s Super Heat initially quoted an installation price of $3,785. But a rebate the final price to us would be $2,785. This included a $1,000 rebate from the Electrical co-op power company. We want it to be known that Bill’s Super Heat stated to us multiple times that we were per-approved for this $1,000 rebate. After the installation, however, we learned from the power company that we were not eligible for this $1,000 rebate. When we went to Bill’s Super Heat with this concern, their secretary said they would take a hit of $255, but we would still need to pay the remaining $745 of this $1,000 rebate difference. We were not pleased with this answer and therefore asked to speak with the owner, Bill Burton, but the secretary told us we are not able to negotiate or visit with Bill about this. She instead offered to remove the heating system completely but the charge to do so would be a little less than just paying the $775 difference they are demanding. Bill’s Super Heat told us that if we do not pay by 12/11/13, they would bring the issue to a collection agency, no negotiations. We have no concerns with the heating unit or installation of the heating unit. Our sole concern is around being told we were pre-approved for the $1,000 rebate only to learn we could not receive it or negotiate it.

Response from Bill's Superheat, Inc.
We installed a ductless mini split on August 9, 2013 for [member name removed]. Out original proposal date was June 3, 2013. We were running a sale on the system for $3,999.00 but quoted the [member name removed] a discounted price of $3,785 if they installed two units at the same time. The regular price for this system is $4,559.00 each. If they did not install two units the price quoted would be the sale price of $3,999. The [member name removed] signed our proposal but then later decided to only install one unit. The systems are high efficient and quality for certain tax credits and rebates. There is a $1,000 utility rebate that comes from the electric company for certain homes. Their home did not qualify for the rebate. The [member name removed] went to their electric company and learned they did not qualify but told the electric company they were going to talk to Bill’s Superheat anyway. They proceeded with the installation never telling us they were already denied a utility rebate of $1,000. Our billing procedure is as follows: 50% down with a signed proposal. Final 50% is due upon completion. No rebate paperwork is submitted until the work is paid in full. Installed price was $3,999. [member name removed] paid $2,500 on June 12, 2013. They then paid $500 on August 12, 2013. This left them with a balance of $999. When we asked for the remaining amount due they said they will pay it when they get their rebate. Normally, rebate paperwork is not submitted until it is paid in full. Upon submitting the rebate paperwork we learned that the [member name removed] do not qualify. Our office called the [member name removed] to relay this and they acted upset. We agreed to discount their bill to $3,850. They were okay with that but then when we would call inquiring about payment they would ask us when they’re receiving their rebate. [member name removed] came in and said that this whole situation has him and his wife talking about divorce and they are so upset about not getting the rebate they are going to counseling. Then again, they would call asking when they’re getting their rebate. It was very confusing. [member name removed] called again wanting to negotiate the contract price. We agreed to discount the installation by an additional $255.00. This made their installation cost $3,595 which is out cost. We made zero profit out of this job just trying to make it affordable for [member name removed]. Several months went by and they still did not pay the final $745.00. They received monthly statements with friendly reminders. By November the bookkeeper called [member name removed] to resolve this. He wanted to negotiate the price. [member name removed] was denied renegotiation and was told this amount is due and will be going to collections. [member name removed] paid his final amount due on December 2, 2013. Bill’s Superheat is not the decision maker for the Flathead Electric CO-op rebate program. It is solely their program and we are just merely preferred contractors that are qualified to install heating systems for qualifying and non-qualifying Flathead Electric Co-op customers. [member name removed] knew before they commenced business with Bill’s Superheat they did not qualify and did not relay this information beforehand. We did not learn of this until after the unit was installed. The [member name removed] were never told they were pre-approved for the rebate by Bill’s Superheat and we have negotiated the contract as low as it could possibly go. We installed the unit to their satisfaction; we went above and beyond discounting the installation and even waiting over 4 months for payment. They are not only enjoying their new system but saving money every month because of its energy savings plus the system qualifies for certain State and Federal tax credits. (Whether they qualify for these tax credits is uncertain. They will need to check with their tax preparer). There are no further negotiations. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. Respectfully, William M Burton Owner/President

Not Well. It still does not work right to this day.
Description of Work: Bill himself came out to the house and quoted an installation of 2 heat pumps. He looked at the whole house and gave us a quote. I had them come out and install the unit about a week later. He installed it too high on the wall for one. The outside unit was leaning and freezing up. They did finally correct this in the spring. The issue that is still ongoing today, is this. The inside unit would not keep the room warm, even when it was 40 degrees outside. It took MANY visits from Bill, his technicians, and even an LG engineer to make any progress. The engineer told us that the unit was severely under sized for our home. Keep in mind, that Bill was the one who came out and quoted the system for my home. After all this, Bill's only solution was to hang a curtain over the doorway of my living room to keep all the heat in that room. He offered to replace the unit with a larger unit, but would charge me the cost of a larger unit, and I would be out the money I paid for the existing unit. If I wanted to buy a larger unit, I would definitely go with another brand and companies to install it. Do not use Bill Superheat !!!!

Bill's Superheat installed a new furnace and water heater for us. Bill came out, did a heat loss calculation, and emailed a quote later that day. He was very helpful, knowledgeable, and patient. He spent quite a lot of time discussing the different options and explaining the differences between the various brands and efficiencies of furnaces available. It's difficult to do a direct price comparison because Bill's quote was for a Trane system and the other two were for Lennox systems. Using general efficiencies, however, Bill's quote appeared to be in the middle of the other two quotes (with one of those quotes being sky high). (A note on the heat loss calculation - Bill was the only one (of three) companies to do this. The other companies based their bids on the size of the house and the size of the existing 35 year old furnace) When it came time to install the furnace, the installers were on time and professional. It was a complicated install (the old furnace was a beast), and they called in extra help to get it done the same day - which they did. The system has been running since and providing a nice warm home throughout the winter. We did have one problem - the condensate pump developed a leak. When I called about it, someone was out within a couple hours to repair the problem. All in all, I'm very pleased with Bill's Superheat and would recommend them without hesitation.
