Elkhorn Roofing

Sheldon was able to begin work on my home the week after I first talked to him. Other companies weren't available until August. Sheldon was very personable and professional. His initial bid was very reasonable with a slight increase due to an area that was in more disrepair than the rest of the roof. It wasn't noticeable until he got the old shingles off to see it. My roof hasn't been replaced in, I'd guess, at least 30 years or longer. A large tree had grown to where it was butting up to the fascia of my garage and it's limbs were growing low over that side of the garage, as well. For a small fee Sheldon and his team removed the half of the tree that was causing the problem and cleaned up everything afterwards. That in itself was a big job! Sheldon also took care of an additional problem without charging me extra. This is an older, turn of the century home and there are several other projects I hope to be able to do to get it in tip-top shape, such as weatherization. Sheldon sealed up some areas with foam in some of the smaller eaves that were connected to the attic. Apparently, there were spots where he could see through the wall. After that he secured some flashing over it to prevent any more deterioration from rain or snow. When I thanked him for going above and beyond he said, "If I'm doing the job, I want to make sure that it is done right.". Sheldon also tells me that if anything else comes up or if there is any problem to contact him right away and he will come back and deal with it as soon as possible. Elkhorn roofing did an exceptional job! I am very pleased every time I pull up to my house after work. The quality of the work is well worth the price.

I thought they were very professional. The owner of the company was very conscientious. We did not have to worry about finding roofing nails in our lawn and flower beds or anything like that. They had a huge magnet and they went over everything when they were done, which would have picked up anything that was loose and had dropped. They were very good. I think the price was probably right on. Our home is a little bit bigger than the majority of the homes and we have got dormers and things like that on each side and our roof is a little steeper than most in the sub-division too. I think we got our money’s worth. The quality was excellent. I had to re-change our homeowner’s insurance company in the past year and the insurance company wanted to know when the roof was replaced and who did it. I called and left a message for the owner of what was needed and who he should call, which was our insurance agent. I checked back about five days later and he had taken care of all that. So, even though we weren’t a current client, he still took care of us.

HORRIBLE!! The first day, the roofer arrived on time, removed all shingles and said an additional $300 was needed to remove an additional layer of shingles on the sun-porch. Then he needed 4 new pieces of sheeting ($260) to replace some that were damaged. Roofer also said a new furnace vent on the roof was highly recommended to insure there would be no leakage problem. I called my furnace company who did not think a new stack was necessary but after talking to the roofer agreed to install a new vent. Additional cost to me..$305. At the end of the first day, the shingles were all removed, the new sheeting was installed, and the ice sheeting and felt were completed. I told the roofer I was concerned as there was a 70% chance of rain the following day. The roofer said he had checked the weather channel and it was only a 40% chance but that it did not matter as the roof was secure and would not leak. The following morning, the roofers were on time and the shingles were delivered about 8 AM . The roofer (Sheldon Tighe) said they would not be putting on the shingles today because it was supposed to rain. I again stated my concern due to a 70% chance of a severe storm later in the day. The roofer again said it was only a 40% chance and it did not matter because the roof was secure and would not leak. That evening the severe storm arrived with heavy rain, some hail, and wind. The roofer called about 8 PM and I told him I had water damage to every ceiling in every room except the back bathroom. In addition it was raining on my car in the carport almost like there was no roof at all on it. The sun-porch took considerable water, damaging the carpet and furniture. Let me just say the damage was EXTENSIVE. The roofer said he would be there first thing in the morning and not to worry because he had and quot;good insuranceand quot;. He arrived the next morning and I showed him all the damage. He called his local Insurance agent who then filed a claim with his Insurance which is Atlantic Causality. He said he was going to put the shingles on now. I stated concern that it was still very wet and dripping water in some places. He said it would quickly dry out and that it was perfectly okay to shingle. As a result I have stains of their footprints in one area in the sun-porch where it was so wet their shoes pushed the water into the sheeting. The roofer finished the roof and again told me that he had good insurance and they would take care of the damage. The roofer called a few days later and said his Claim's Agent would be calling. Atlantic Causality employs American Claims Service then employs Montana Claims Service to do their Montana field work claims. The Montana Claims Agent arrived, took extensive pictures, and surveyed the damage. I was told I needed to get estimates so I called the the 3 restoration services available locally for estimates. All 3 companies said that all ceilings will need to be replaced. One company opted out of the estimates, unsure how they could get the areas and wet insulation dried as there is not easy access between the ceiling and the roof. Removing the roof was discussed by the other 2 companies but it was decided it would not be less expensive because the ceilings would still need to be replaced due to the extensive areas of staining and mold issues. The least expensive estimate is approximately $17,000 which does not include repairs needed to the sun-porch. The sheeting on the sun-porch has swollen and molded and some of the shingles and sheeting will need to be replaced. All of this information was sent to American Claims Services by the Montana Claim Services field agent. As of 9/24/13, American Claims Service (the authorized agent for Atlantic Causality) has not returned phone messages nor e-mails. So, I have had to file a claim with my own insurance company to get my home repaired. I would not use this roofer nor would I recommend these Insurance carriers.

They were recommended by our neighbor. They responded to our call in one day and one day later we had their estimate. The timing was coordinated to our convenience. Their performance was professional and their attitude was exceptional. We are completely satisfied with the experience.
