Overall it went terrible!! I have previously provided our detailed story.h
Description of Work: Bad, BAd, BAD!!! We do not recommend using him. First he tried to switch out the wood that he quoted us from maple to poplar and then he kept promising us that he would be installing our cabinets "shooting for next Tues" "next Friday", etc. and not showing up. He was months late finishing the cabinets (and they were never fully finished), the cabinets are flawed, the "custom" cabinets in the laundry room are so high that I can only reach the items on the bottom shelves, the 3 lazy susans have big gaps around the edges and look terrible, we had to purchase the crown moulding and lazy susans ourselves as he spent our "half down" deposit money elsewhere, the interior of the cabinets have blocks of wood showing with different wood, he globbed glue around the edges of the glass on the china hutch with is visible through the glass and looks terrible, he used wood shelves in the china hutch which should have been glass so the light could show through to the lower items, etc. etc. For custom cabinetry, it's really shoddy. Since our project, we have learned of many others who have also had problems with him.

On June 16, 2010, Mattia Baccaro with Baccaro Custom Cabinets gave us a quote for maple custom cabinets for $18,185.00. On June 22, 2010 we gave him a deposit check in the amount of $9,000.00, as per his quote “50% due upon order”. Mattia told us that once we gave him our deposit, he would lock us into his schedule and that he had 2 or 3 orders to do before us. He deposited our check on June 23. He promised us that he would have our cabinets completed “by August 1st”. We met with Mattia several times to discuss door style, paint color, glaze color and layout. We gave him plans that another cabinet company had drawn so he only had to draw plans for the hutch, buffet and bar. He said it would take him two weeks to build our cabinets. On July 14, he changed the installation date to August 9 so we put our other subcontractors off for another week. On July 29 we discovered that he was planning to use poplar, a cheaper wood, instead of maple. On July 30, we informed him that we would not accept poplar cabinets. On August 2 we completely tore out our kitchen and proceeded with texturing, painting and flooring and were ready for our cabinets to be installed on Monday, August 9. Mattia didn’t show up with our cabinets, nor did he call. We called his cell phone many times and it went right to voice mail. We went to his shop and the door was locked. The next day, Tues., the two guys that work for him, Roy and Paul, were at his shop and they told my husband, Tim, that they didn’t know where Mattia was. On Wed., Tim went to his shop again and they told Tim that Mattia’s Mom was sick and that he had to go to California. He said he wanted to see our doors and they told him that they were being sanded at another shop in Columbia Falls, but they had no idea where. They said it could be one of five places and they didn’t offer to try to find out where our cabinet doors might be. Mattia was gone a week. On Sunday, August 15, he finally called and told us that he “guessed he should have called”. On August 17, Mattia brought a painted and glazed door on alder for us to look at. Over the next few weeks, we have gone to his shop to see our cabinets many times and were given different excuses why we couldn’t see them. On August 20 he told us he was “shooting for Monday” to install, that they would work all weekend. On August 23 he didn’t show up or return our calls all day. On August 24 he said he “messed up the lacquer” and had to sand them down. On August 25, Tim stopped at his shop and he was told that he was painting the cabinets at another shop and they would be ready on Tuesday. On August 31 we were told that Mattia flew to CA again. On September 2 Mattia returned from CA. On September 3, we left a voice mail for Mattia that we either wanted concrete dates for installation of our cabinets, or we wanted our money back. On September 7 we went to his shop, his workers said that he had just left to get a cup of coffee at his house which is next door to his shop. We waited and he didn’t come back. We went to his house and knocked on the door and he didn’t answer. We came back to the shop and looked around. They were working on knotty alder cabinets, not ours. We asked Roy and Paul questions about our cabinets and Roy looked me right in the eyes and told me that our doors were being painted in Kalispell. I said, “where, because we want to see them.” He said he had no idea where. I called Mattia’s cell phone and left a voice mail that we were at his shop and wanted to talk to him. He didn’t come out. Then Tim left a message for him that we were going to wait there if we had to camp there all night. He eventually came out. He admitted lying to us. He admitted that he shouldn’t have tried to switch our wood from maple to poplar and that he hadn’t even started on the doors or boxes–and that all those excuses were lies. We demanded our money back and he said he didn’t have it. He said he had our maple, showed us two small stacks of what appeared to be drawer fronts and five or six frames. I asked to see the receipt for the maple and he wouldn’t show it to us. We had no way of knowing whether those were our cabinet pieces. Mattia kept telling us that he would have the base cabinets in on Sunday, September 12. “Just wait, you’ll see.” On September 8 Tim went to his shop and some doors were built. On September 9, we went to his shop again, showed him pictures of a hutch design and asked him about the heat vent under the sink. On Sunday he called in the morning and told us that he would be here late Sunday or on Monday, that he was waiting for the glaze to dry. On Monday, September 13, our base cabinets were installed and it has now been another month and we still have no upper cabinets, doors, drawers, lazy susans, pullouts, or hutch. On September 22 we went to Mattia’s shop. Painted doors were laying everywhere drying, no glaze on anything. Refrigerated panels were built and painted. No boxes built, no completion date. He had started the drawing for the china hutch. On October 1, Mattia told Tim he’s “shooting for Tuesday” to install. On October 11 Mattia and Steve met. We had put our tile guy off for over two months and Mattia agreed to let him install the back splash this week since he still didn’t have our cabinets ready to install. Mattia was here on Mon, met with the tile guy and agreed that he would be here either Thursday or Friday to install. Today is Friday, October 15, and he says he can’t be here as his guys went hunting, he can’t install the doors and drawers by himself as he has some things to take care of today and he claims he will be here on Monday. Today he is 76 days late from his original “by August 1st” date. We are sick of his lies. Not only has it been a tremendous inconvenience without a functioning kitchen, we have had to put our life on hold, cancel plans and wait for 2 ½ months based on his promises. We did everything that he asked and w do not understand why he will not finish the job and get paid the balance. We fear that he will go out of business, we will be out $9,000, have endured this long hardship and we still won’t have any cabinets. We also want prospective customers who have the wherewithall to research this company prior to giving him a deposit to be able to read our complaint so they know what isses they could experience. We either want our cabinets NOW or we want our money back. We gave Mattia a deadline of November 5, 2010, at 6 PM to be done with our project. We let them work until 8:30 PM that night and they still did not finish. We are missing one kitchen cabinet, the applliance garage and door, the window trim was not installed and he didn't do any crown molding in the kitchen, utility room or on the hutch. He presented us with a new invoice, with adds out of the blue and deducts for those items he had not finished. We paid him $5,000 out of the goodness of our hearts. We would not have had to pay him anything as the contract states: "50% due upon delivery/completion" and the job is incomplete. We are trying to get him to finish the project in January and then we will pay him the balance on the contract.
Description of Work: Custom maple cabinetry for our kitchen, utility room and a hutch/buffet.
