Description of Work: Tim from Dave's Lock and Key came to my new place to change the locks and install deadbolts. He was a few minutes late, but was very friendly, professional, and answered all of my questions. | |This was my first time using a locksmith so the cost of it was a bit surprising, but after talking with others it was comparable to other locksmiths. | |Would definitely use them again.

In early June of 2014, Dave's Lock and Key came for a residential service call that sought to change the keying on a newly purchased home for me. The stated goal was to have new keying for all exterior doors. As suggested by Dave's Lock and Key, two knobs were completely replaced. As of yet, I had taken over possession of the home but did not occupy it. The house was not occupied until early August because of wall paper removal and painting. In the first week of September, the newly installed doorknob between the house and the garage would not retract to allow the door to be opened. The automobile was inside the closed garage with the garage door opener inside its glove compartment and no external keypad outside that would allow access into the garage. This was a Sunday morning. I phoned Dave's Lock and Key and an answering service picked-up. I explained my situation but the answering service was explicit that Dave's Lock and Key did not do residential emergency calls nor could I expect a return phone call that day. Essentially, I would not be able to get emergency service that day from this business because I was a resident. I phoned Bruce's Lock and Key and this business arrived in approximately 15 minutes. It took Bruce's Lock and Key about 35 minutes to force the knob to retract and allow entry. I asked this business to leave the knob off because I was confident Dave's Lock and Key would correct the problem and feared the knob might stick again. Dave's called on Monday, the next day, and denied that they did not provide residential emergency service, however I was unable to easily schedule after 4 PM on a work day. Then, after discussions about time-and- a-half charges, I inquired if I would be charged for the faulty product. I was told the product was guaranteed for only thirty days. This was not written on their invoice nor explained with their service. I therefore declined their remedy: paying for new knobs and the installation costs. Dave's Lock and Key came recommended from another. I will let this business know my experience: Dave's Lock and Key provides an inferior service and product for residential homes. They do not stand behind their workmanship nor products and fail to provide quality residential service.
Description of Work: New doorknobs were installed on two doors of a new-to-me home because Dave's Lock and Key said the existing locks could not be re-keyed.

This person was not present during the initial visit and couldn't be there during our normal business hours for us to fix it until the Friday after her current issue. She called us on the Monday following her call which was handled by our answering service. The notice I received from the service stated that she has been having issues with the lock we installed since we installed it. When she called she told me she yelled at the operator after she was told we don't perform after hours residential lockout services. She failed to mention to me that her lock was preventing her from entering her garage. She also didn't mention to me that it has been causing problems since we installed it. We guarantee every product purchased from us for 30 days following our installation of said product. This covers all labor and product costs involved in repair or replacement of a defective product. After the 30 days any warranty is covered by the manufacturer and that does not include any labor - it's the same for virtually any product of any type. Regardless of this policy being on our receipts or invoices she did not contact us until over 2 months after we installed it. I had the recording of the call she made on Sunday with the service reviewed and at no time did she yell at the operator. She did however, according to a supervisor, confuse the operator several times and that is why the operator was not clear on what she needed. We do provide after hours service to homes and since this customer kept changing her story with the operator and confused the operator she was told we don't do that after hours. She kept changing her story when she spoke with me on Monday as well and even I became confused at her issue and what she wanted from us. She said she had questions about why we didn't rekey one of her locks and would ask when we arrived to fix the lock but then said she couldn't be there. She wanted to know why we installed a cheap lock and I told her that the lock we installed is a residential lock which is cheaper than heavier duty locks, she wasn't there on the initial visit so we installed a lock we have sold for many years with little or no issues to save her money. I was willing to send a technician to her home the next day but she couldn't be there so we had to schedule a visit for late on the next Friday, which puts our technician on overtime but we were only going to charge her regular time. I recall her not wanting to spend the money on upgrading to a commercial lock on this visit yet wanted us to replace her lock with a better one. I spent about 1/2 hour on the phone with her to resolve her issues, scheduled a return visit then she called the next day and canceled, stating she would just pay someone else to fix it. She didn't give us an opportunity to prove to her how we operate so she has no basis for this review or her complaints. She has posted negative comments elsewhere and always mentions the mobile-only lock company several times as if she's trying to advertise for him. Dave's Lock & Key has been in the same place since 1956. We are still here because we are professionals, friendly and fair. We stand behind everything we sell and every service we provide. If given the opportunity I might have been willing to replace her lock at no charge but due her inconsistencies, attitude and insistence that we do everything for free I'm happy she is now someone else's problem.
