Description of Work: Installed duct work to basement with 2 registers in basement and 9 floor vents to 1st floor. This is a log house with open concept, so we did not run ductwork to upper floor( would have taken up closet space).

Very satisfied, from the receptionist who took our call to the technician who made the service call, we were totally pleased. Very professional and ethical company.
Description of Work: We moved into our house in November 2009 and soon after had to replace the 25-year-old main furnace, so we chose White, not knowing anything about them. White did a great job that time, so when our auxiliary furnace began blowing out cold air in January 2012, we called them again. The technician spent two hours in our very tight crawl space, determined that a sensor had broken, replaced the part and checked to make sure that everything else on the furnace was functioning properly. He also advised us where we could shut off the cold air if it ever happened again, as my husband had been unable to locate the switch. He was personable, managed to get to our home in a timely manner despite bad weather and icy roads, and we were very happy again with White's service. We have recommended them to several people.

Overall it was a great experience. I expected to have to take my chances out there in the marketplace. I'm so glad I had a personal recommendation from someone else that set me on the path to contacting White. That's why I'm writing this recommendation--to help someone else who doesn't know where to start. If I ever needed further heating or cooling services, I'd certainly call White Heating and Cooling. I know I'd have all my options explained carefully and would be able to make the choice the was best for me. Thank you, Cameron!
Description of Work: White Heating replaced my old furnace with a high efficiency new furnace a year ago last fall. I had contacted another heating company about my old furnace and that man told me I should replace the furnace and offered to sell me a 80% efficient furnace for $1800.00. A friend recommended I get a second estimate from White because he had been impressed with their service on some rentals he owned. Cameron came to the house, agreed that the old furnace needed replacing, but spent a lot of time explaining all my options. He told me about the government tax rebate that would allow me to put in a high efficiency furnace for $3700 and have $1800 rebated in my tax refund so that I was really only paying about $1900 for the best furnace. The first guy never mentioned a high efficiency furnace rebate. I was not pressured in any way to choose the higher cost furnace but obviously it would be silly not to get the best for the same price as the 80% efficient one! That's what I did. The guys from White came on time, were polite and friendly, were careful to protect the area around the furnace, explained any questions I had as they went along, and cleaned up their own mess. During the process, which took most of the day, a supervisor came by to check on the work. When the work was completed I was given complete instructions on how to run the thermostat, change filters, etc. I was also given all the necessary paperwork to turn in with my tax form. The tax rebate came through with no trouble--even I couldn't believe it worked! I received a couple of followup calls once the heating season got into full swing to check on how it was working.

In 1998 I had White install an a/c system for me and allowed them to talk me into replacing my existing furnace at the same time. I was told that this furnace would have energy savings that would pay for themselves. So far durring the life of the furnace I have had over $1500 dollars of repair performed by White. Thie negated any savings I might have achieved Furthermore I feel that they have taken advantage of my loyalty by chargeing my almost twice as much for parts and labor as their competitors. I refused to let them repair my furnace last month because had suspected they were gouging me once again. I called up a competitor.and had them repair the furnace. The competitor's overall bill was as much as the parts alone white was going to charge me. I will be hard pressed to use White again.

White Heating & Air Conditining was contacted to perform a routine service on my furnace. As part of the agreeement, the company was to contact me to schedule this service to be completed sometime in the fall, however I had to contact them to schedule it in the winter as I had not heard from them. On January 19, 2010, technician Randy Mesce arrived at my house to complete the service on the furnace. I was out of town on business, however my roommate was home and available to assist. I received a call from Randy shortly after his arrival in which he had informed me that the heat exchanger in my furnace was cracked. He had come to this conclusion based on carbon monoxide readings coming from the flue pipe, which were reading 400 ppm during idle operation and 2000 ppm when the blower was operating. He informed me that normal levels are around 40 ppm, and that building codes limit this to 50 ppm. He stated that the furnace was not leaking carbon monoxide into the house, but that the furnace would need to be replaced. Randy said that, technically, he should condemn the furnace and prohibit it from being operated, however he was not going to do that because there was no imminent threat to the safety of the building's occupants. He stated that a new furnace would be roughly $2500. When asked what the cost would be to replace the heat exchanger, he stated that it would be better to replace the furnace as the cost of a heat exchanger would be a couple hundred dollars less then a new furnace. Randy stated that he would not be able to complete the service that was scheduled, and that I could request reimbursement for half of the White Service Agreement. Also of note, while Randy was at my residence he told me that the unit was installed in 1993. This was puzzling to me as the house was built in 1997 and could not have been installed before this time. Randy, shocked by this, re-checked the information on the furnace and concurred that it was installed in 1997. This raised suspicion with me. Randy indicated that someone would be out the next day to complete an estimate for a new system to be installed. On January 20, 2010, Cameron arrived at my residence and met with my roommate to complete an estimate for a new furnace. My roommate stated Cameron was very insistent about replacing the furnace, and was trying very hard to sell a new furnace for the house. When asked to quote the cost to replace only the heat exchanger, Cameron avoided the subject until the question was asked for a third time. According to my roommate, Cameron was hesistant to even quote replacing the heat exchanger, instead insisting on replacing the entire furnace. Earlier in the day my roommate had made contact with a local company, who quoted an approximate price of $400 (total for parts and labor) to replace the heat exchanger. The price Cameron quoted for a new furnace was $2000 for a similar unit, $3350 for a more energy-efficient unit, or $700 labor + parts to replace the heat exchanger. He was initially unsure if the heat exchanger was under warranty, which it was later determined to be covered under warranty, resulting in a price of $700 for labor. On January 28, 2009, I contacted White Heating and Air Conditioning to try and receive a refund for half of the White Service Agreement that was not completed. I spoke to Cameron, who stated that he was originally unaware of the agreement that I was under, and that I would qualify for a discount on a new furnace (again insisting on replacing the entire unit). He did state they could reduce the price of labor to replace the part to $500 - which was a $100 discount for having an agreement in place, plus a $100 credit for the portion of the agreement that was not fulfilled. I declined and informed him of the quote from the competitor. When he heard how much the competition quoted, he laughed and said that the price quoted would hardly cover the competitor's supplies. He hesitated to offer a refund because he stated that the service was completed, which is how the cracked heat exchanger was found - even though he was willing to give a $100 credit for the unused agreeement towards the cost of replacing the part. Cameron did, however, finally agree to the refund, and indicated that a check would be sent to me. As of this writing (1/29/2010), a check has not been received - which should not be reflected poorly on White as the company has hardly had enough time to send the refund. On January 29, 2010 - a local competitor arrived and installed the new heat exchanger, as well as replacing a couple of other parts that were found to be damaged when removing the old heat exchanger. The total cost (including the additional parts) was $377.29, which is still significantly less then the $2000 White Heating and Air Conditioning was insisting on spending to replace the furnace. The reason why White is being rated so poorly is because of their insistence on replacing a furnace that has 7 years of remaining warranty on it, in what appears to be an attempt to simply make a sale. They insisted on spending 7 times as much money for a new furnace, when to simply repair the current system was ultimately $296 (price for labor only from a competitor, the heat exchanger was free as it was under warranty). Even the technician (Randy) originally stated the entire unit MUST be replaced, and that to replace the part itself would only save a couple hundred dollars. It appeared that White Heating and Air Conditioning was trying to take advantage of me, which is why they will no longer have my business. I would not recommend them to any of my friends based on this experience, and will instead deal with a reputable company who will be more honest with their customers.
Description of Work: The service to be performed was a reoutine preventive maintenance service on my furnace. I had a one-year service agreement for White to service the A/C in the spring and the Furnace in the fall, and the total price was for $199. This experience in question is in regard to the service on the furnace.

During the bidding process, I was very impressed with the amount of time taken getting all the information necessary to properly size the new system. I was given multiple options for replacement, including the possibility of just replacing the air conditioner (heat pump) since our furnace was still in relatively good shape. I never felt that Cameron was trying to sell me something. I had lots of questions and requests for additional information during my decision making process, and always received accurate, no bull answers. We discussed in great detail the exact scope of work to be performed and I received a quote for the job. The installers arrived at the scheduled time and laid out tarps before beginning the work to help keep our floors clean. They were friendly and courteous, and obviously very knowledgeable. All work was performed in a professional manner. The installation took almost 2 days, and when they were done they cleaned up after themselves, thoroughly checked out the system and gave us instruction on how to use the new system. All of our questions were answered. Cameron called a couple days later to make sure everything went as planned and was working properly. I got exactly what we agreed upon and there were no surprises. I will do business with White again in the future and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: We had a replacement high efficiency furnace, air source heat pump, steam humidifier and programmable thermostat installed as a replacement to our old HVAC system. White also added 2 new return air vents and put in a flue liner for our existing hot water heater.
