On 2 different occasions, Mark called at 8:10am (on the day that he was to start the job at 8:00am) to say that he could not make it and would call me back to re-schedule the job. I should have walked away right then, but I had contacted several of his references and they all raved about what a good job Mark does. I would also like to note that Mark is primarily a painter. He probably does a very good job with painting. I wouldn't know. This job was mostly about drywall and texture on ceilings. He had another person do this work. The work completed was not what was bid, not what I asked for, and was not acceptable, so I told Mark I did not want him to finish by painting the areas had been worked on. I wanted, and he bid on, scraping the texture off all the ceilings in the living room and kitchen. His employee only scraped the texture off the areas that had been previously repaired. Then the employee re-textured these same areas. He did the same thing as the first contractor!! This is exactly what they were supposed to be fixing!! In speaking with the employee, he stated to me that you can never match the textures due to different mud consistencies, different brushes used, different workmen habits. I had found that out on the internet and that is why I asked Mark to re-do all the ceilings, not the patches. The ceiling patches were as obvious when they finished as they were when they started. Except that now, they were bigger. The third morning Mark was on his way to paint the ceilings when I called him and told him I did not want the ceilings painted, even though I had already purchased the paint. That would only make it harder (for me) to scrape off the texture - the thing I had contracted him to do. He had bid $295.00 to scrape the ceilings, $275.00 to re-texture, and $295.00 to re-paint an area less than 400 sqare feet. I offered him $300 for the work completed, even though that seemed a lot for having worked on about 100 square feet. He actually wanted the full bid amount for having completed only a portion of the work. I have no idea why I agreed to give him $490. I got nothing for my money, plus spent another $65 on paint. I believe he made a serious mistake when he bid the job and then when he kept re-scheduling it. He should have owned up to it. The final insult came once he had my check. He and his worked picked up their tools and left. They did not clean up my house or their workspace. The plastic was still hanging from the walls and over all the furniture. Sheetrock mud dust, scraped off the ceilings, was everywhere. It took me all day to get my home cleaned up and put all the furniture back into place. This is the kind of contractor you want to stay away from. I have debated whether or not it was fair to write him up for attempting a job that is not in his line of work. I decided that he took the job, and he messed up the job. If he was a respectable business man he would have made it right, done what he said he was going to do. He would not have left my house in such a filthy, un-inhabitable state.
Description of Work: Mark Holder, owner, came out Feb 10, 2013 and gave me a bid to scrape texture off ceilings in kitchen and living room (where a previous contractor had attempted to repair some ceiling cracks) and also included re-applying texture and then painting these same areas. He finally started the work last week in March. His employee/contractor only scraped the texture off the areas that had been "repaired", not the complete ceiling area, and put more texture on these areas. He did not fix anything, but he took my money and left me with a house that looks just like it did before he got here. I would have been a fair price if he had done the work that he bid on and that I agreed to pay him for.

I do believe the jobs went well & on schedule. The only time they didn't finish on time if the weather outside was bad when he was painting the exterior. I'm a hard person to please.
Description of Work: I've used AllSouth Painting for painting inside & outside of several homes I've lived in. They have always done and excellent job for me. From painting the walls, trim & even cabinets. They have went above and beyond my expectations. I would surely use them again & again.

The experience was great. He came and gave me an estimate, along with many references. I compared his estimate to 4 other companies. He told me up front that I could find less expensive quotes. I respect a guy that can tell me that. He also told me why paying his price is worth it. I took his word and was not disappointed. He did a great job. The majority of the house is siding and it was very much in need of some help. Mark and his crew completely re-made this house. I'm a real estate investor, and I highly recommend his services.
Description of Work: Cleaned, scraped, primed, and caulked the entire exterior. Mark hand-brushed and rolled the trim, siding, doors, and shutters. A quality job.

I found Mark on an online service ad site and called to request an estimate. He was very pleasant on the phone and arrived when he said he would. He explained what services his estimate covered and approximately when he could do the job. The hardest part then was choosing paint colors - they never look the same on the walls as they do on the paint samples! I had decided to go with a dark color in the bathroom and a lighter contrasting color for the bedroom. The first day he painted the bathroom and started on the bedroom. After he left I realized I had made a huge mistake with the color I chose for the bedroom. So the next morning before he came back I went to a home improvement store and bought another color paint. I rushed home before he came and tested a small area on the bedroom wall and thought I had made another bad choice. When he arrived I told him what I had done and how I just did not know what to do! He was so nice (after driving 45 minutes to my house) and told me not to worry - just think about it and to try my sample colors on a larger section of the wall. Later that day when I made my decision I called him and returned the next day to complete the job. While he was there he decided that because of the way my stairwell is built that he would require help to paint it. He made arrangements and brought help. It ended up that his original estimate of two days turned in to 4 days but he stuck to the price he quoted and did not charge any extra for the extra time it took when I changed colors in the bedroom. Mark is very pleasant and professional and I would recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: Mark painted my master bathroom, the master bedroom and a stairwell that has a very high ceiling.
