Cooper Mechanical

Attempted to buy a car from James (Chris) Cooper. He told me it would be the perfect car for my 17 y/o daughter and only needed a small amount of work to the transmission. I paid him the $800 down payment and he stated the car would be readby in 1-2 weeks. Trouble started immediately as I was unable to reach him for updates at the (multiple) times he stated the car would be ready. The excuses started pilling up with "its too hot to work on it, I could get sun stroke", family death, lost phone, too busy, transmission work is slow, unable to get the titiel d/t laziness of clerks (originally told me title was clear). By the time 7 weeks had passed I still did not have a car, each week I had to beg for information, received a beligerent attitude each week. Eventually at the end of the 7th week he said the car/title were ready. Went to the shop on Springridge Road and found the car had a thick coat of Armourall on all surfaces but trash and old battery in trunk (he stated car had been professionally detailed), leaves in all crevices, mud around gas tank area and the hood up. I was told he "just found a new problem with the engine" which he supposedly fixed while I waited to drive the car. Ten minutes into the test drive the air turned off and copious amounts of smoke came from the engine and car died. I am now attempting x2 weeks to get my down payment back but so far no luck. I have been told "you will get it, stop bothering me" from Mr.Cooper. I was told that its a "threat" to him to say I may have to use a court situation and that d/t this "threat" I had forfeited the right to get cash back quickly from him. This is called Theft by Deception by the court system. I have used Chris for other situations and while he was slow to get finished, I never had problems with money or being unable to reach him until this event. Either way, he has seen the last of me with the exception of a court room.
