Recently i noticed a crack at the right front of my granite where the sink cutout is, after further checking i noticed it had been repaired by the installer putting granite glue on the crack under the counter and also they put clue on the under mount sink to help hold it together. I contacted Slab Stone on June 1st and the secretary said Mr Taylor was not in so i left word for him to call me. June 3 and I had not heard from Tommy so i called back and told the secretary I need to speak with Tommy about my counter top being broke, he did call me back later in the day and i informed him of the crack and he ask how it got cracked. I told him I did not know because it was cracked during installation as it had been repaired, he told me to send him some pictures to his phone which I did. June 10 and no word from Tommy so I called his cell phone and one of his helpers answered and said Tommy would call me back. After an hour or two he did not call so I send him a text and ask what he intends to do, he had a helper call me back and said that he would come look at it when he got time. June 14, no word and no one showed. i send a certified letter to Slab Stone informing them they had until July 1st to respond or I would have to take legal actions. As of July 11 I have not heard anything from this company. Do not do business with Slab Stone Surfaces in New Albany, MS, they are very unprofessional and do shotty work. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Description of Work: This experience was a nightmare. The whole process took much longer than we were told it would be. Part of it was that the sink we ordered would not have worked very well. He was kind enough to tell us that if we used that one the granite would break if the faucet became loose. We appreciated him doing that. We ordered another one. All in all, that probably took 3 weeks for the sink to be delivered to Slab Stone. We carried the sink over on Thursday, and the secretary said they would call us by Monday. We heard nothing and I finally called on Tuesday. This became a pattern. The secretary said she would call or they were coming, and we never heard anything. The weather was bad during some of this period, and I understand that. She said they would be here on Friday, March 6th. The weather was icy on March 4th, and they missed a day of work on March 5th. I knew they probably would not be here on Friday, and that was fine. Things happen which cause delays. But by Friday noon roads were clear, and the secretary was at work. She actually told me that she meant to call me on Friday before she left work. We heard nothing until I called them on Monday afternoon . We just would have liked to have known what was going on. They came on Wednesday afternoon and measured again and tore out the old counter tops. They left at 12:30 and said they'd be back "in a few minutes." We didn't hear from them again that day. They showed up at 10:00 the next morning without anyone calling to see if we were even at home. |When they took the old counters out, they left nails sticking out. They scratched the side of the refrigerator door in five places. The scratches are so deep that you can feel them when you run your fingers over the door. This could have been avoided if they had just removed the sink before they took the counters out. The sink was not installed in the center of the opening for it. The sink had five holes already cut for installation of the faucet and sprayer or whatever. They did not measure accurately, and cut another hole in the sink. Now we have an unfinished whole in a cast iron sink which will probably rust at sometime. This hole was for a water filter. The one they cut for the faucet was off, and the faucet would not go in until it was altered a little. There is a significant gap between the wall and counter. Yes, the wall was off some, but the granite was also off. A fabricator who knows what he is doing should have been able to cut the counter to fit even if the wall if not completely straight. So now we have a caulk filled gap about one half inch wide at the end of the counter. Mr. Taylor came out and measured initially. At that time we told him that we wanted to push the range against the wall. He said that was fine, but the installer put a small piece of granite at the back. Now the range sticks out too far in the floor. When we signed the original contract, a stainless sink was included in the price. We told him that we might buy our own sink, which we did. He said he would take the cost of the sink off the price. When the installer gave me the bill, nothing had been changed. The price was the same as the one including the sink. The installer called Mr. Taylor, and he said the secretary had not charged me for the sink. Not only had she charged for the sink, but she had added a 250.00 charge for removing the old tops that had not been mentioned or included in the original contract. We paid 250.00 to have our refrigerator permanently marred. We would have removed the old ones ourselves if we had been told there would be a charge. The installer called Mr. Taylor back and tried to explain to him about the sink and told him the cost of the sink hadn't been taken off. Mr. Taylor agreed to let us pay a little less. Who knows how we came out on that? The secretary is one of the most inefficient I have ever dealt with. It's kind of ironic. We were told that ladies came in Slab Stone crying because they had been messed up on their granite installation by the big box stores. My wife was crying because we didn't use the big box stores. Another thing that we were told was that the big box stores added charges for numerous extras they did. At least the people knew before they had the granite installed what the cost was with the extras. The 250.00 charge for old counter top removal was a complete surprise. All in all, this was a horrendous mistake. We had wanted granite for years, and this is the experience we had. I did try to call him on Friday afternoon and tell him all this. Despite the fact that it was during their operating hours, they didn't answer. I left a message, but so far have heard nothing. If Mr. Taylor has tried to call, he hasn't tried very hard. I personally am finished with him, and would not encourage anyone to use Slab Stone. | |

Response from SLAB STONE SURFACES
I will admit that the (Member name removed) job took longer than expected. We got some bad weather right when it was time for their installation and we can't help that. I called & spoke with (member name removed) and told her we had planned on an installation date of 3/5 and 3/6 but it would depend on the weather. She said she understood, that it was no big deal that we could get to it as soon as the ice was cleared up. So I scheduled it for the next week and we installed the job the next week as scheduled. Me or the guys were not at work on march 5 or 6th we don't come in when there is ice on the roads. My boss said not to b/c the whole shop floor was frozen considering we use water to cut every piece of stone. We had an agreement that if they didn't use our sink that he would remove their old counters in place of the sink since they cost the same. That's why the bill remained the same. They were also informed that there is a possibility of cracks with the big cast iron sink they wanted but they chose to use that sink regardless of what my boss said. These people have lied to make their story sound more appealing. I love my job and my customers and I have plenty of customers that can vouch for us. We have called Mr. (Member name removed) several times and sent our shop manager out to his house to resolve this issue. Him and his wife were home and wouldn't come to the door. This man just wants free granite for nothing. He paid our guys when they finished and didn't mention a word about a crack or his refrigerator or his terrible experience with me. He paid in full with no complaints. Then he calls back in June complaining about this crack that he says has been there since we installed but he just got around to calling. We advised him to use our sink and we have a signed contract and not to mention we gave them a free upgraded edge worth $250 plus tax.
