"Mr Rooter of Tupelo was sourced as a contracted for my home warranty claim through First American. The experience was very unprofessional from the initial request. I made a service request on 12/29/22 and was not contacted for almost 2 weeks to schedule an appointment. When first contacted on 1/6/22 it was to inform me that a contractor was in route to my home; however, I had no previous communication from Mr. Rooter to acknowledge my request or to schedule anything. I informed them of this and that I was not home- they only stated, "OK, we have to reschedule". I remained calm and just went ahead and rescheduled for Tuesday 1/10/22 at 9am. So, on 1/10/22 there was no arrival at 9 am, I contacted the company to ensure they were still on schedule, and they stated, "we will have someone out there this afternoon". OK, no explanation, apology and I'm inconvenienced... but OK I will make it work. They contact me around 1pm and state they are on the way, they arrive, and the plumbers remained in the vehicle for a few minutes, I approach the van and they state they are doing paperwork; 20 minutes go by, and I go back outside to ask if everything was OK. At this time, they are just exiting the van to get started, 25-30 mins after their arrival. All seems to be going fine as they are assessing the property to identify the issue. Issue is identified as a leak at water meter, we proceeded to confirm if home warranty would pay for this. If not, I confirmed I would pay out of pocket for repair. Prior to starting they told me this repair would be $650, then it changed to $850. So, I proceeded to ask common questions of a customer when being provided a service, such as what method of payment is preferred, expected time to complete, providing itemized invoice once complete and in mid conversation the plumbers just got in the van and left as though they were disgruntled with NO explanation at all! I seriously thought this was a prank, I was left standing in the road as they left without any communication. Being left without any communication, the only thing I can assume as to why they may have left so quickly is because they may have been upset that I inquired about providing a breakdown of charges for the work they would perform. If this is the case, I would have appreciated and respected professional communication of that so that I could understand and move forward with other options. This was very unprofessional; I have never experienced this low level of service as a paying customer in my life. I would not recommend or return as a customer and will continue to escalate my concerns."

Sewer cleaning services FAQs

In most states, companies that perform sewer cleaning services don’t need specific licensing, but you should always ensure you hire a licensed and certified plumber to get the work done. You can use our state licensing tool to check whether the potential sewer cleaning company holds a plumber’s certification and license. Hiring a certified sewer cleaning services guarantees that the work will be done safely, there won’t be additional damage done to your home, and the problem will be fixed.

The average cost to snake your main sewer line is around $250 for a simple snake. Most sewer line specialists charge between $45 and $200 per hour for main sewer line snaking, so the time involved plays a major role. The price you’ll pay will depend on the severity of the clog, the item causing the backup, how long it takes to remove the item, and more. A more severe issue that requires unclogging a main sewer line will cost $3,100 on average.

There are a few signs of a clog in your main sewer line that you should keep in mind.

Common signs of a sewer line clog:

  • Multiple fixtures in your home drain slowly

  • Drains in your home gurgle during or after draining

  • Water backs up into your sewer line cleanout

  • You notice foul odors in your home

The best way to confirm that your main sewer line is clogged is to hire a professional plumber to assess the situation and use a camera to inspect the inside.

In most cases, drain cleaners will not clear a clogged sewer line, and they’re likely to damage your plumbing. Sewer lines are several inches wide, meaning any material that clogs it will need to be large. Drain cleaner can work on small clogs, but it usually won’t clear a larger one in a sewer main. Drain cleaners can also easily damage and corrode your plumbing with prolonged contact, and a clog will keep the cleaner in contact with the pipes for an extended period. Hire a professional sewer cleaner instead for a safe fix.

You should not attempt to snake your sewer yourself. Accessing and snaking your sewer requires heavy-duty equipment, and while renting is possible, misusing it can damage your sewer main and leave you with very expensive repair costs, not to mention potential environmental issues and severe water damage. Accessing your sewer also exposes you to hazardous sewer gasses, and failing to seal the sewer properly after work can be very dangerous. It’s always best to hire a professional sewer cleaner near you to handle this type of work.
