The workmen from Air Masters came and fixed the and quot;symptomsand quot; (not cooling), but I needed them again the next summer for the same thing. Then, the third summer, the unit did the same thing in less than 10 months). That third summer (2011), I just called a different company (one that specialized in residential, smaller jobs) and have had no more problems.
Description of Work: I had a small A/C job at my house and got a service call from Air Masters. They are well-respected large-job contractors in the area. They sent a couple of men to work on my rather new unit to see why it was running well but not cooling.

Description of Work: We called Air Masters to have a second opinion on the problems we were having with our fairly new A/C and heating unit installed by another company when we built our home in 2006. Since the original contractor installed it, our problems over this period of time ranged from the air flow not being evenly distributed between rooms resulting in some rooms getting a strong air flow and others practically none at all, the outside equipment (compressor) went bad and had to be replaced, the inside equipment began leaking and flooded our home resulting in new flooring to be replaced in our spare bedroom, hallway and den. After 6 years of failure and with these problems and after dealing with the original installer and being told that they were having problems with many of the Infinity units installed in other homes and that they were actually involved in a law suit with the manufacturer over this, and wanted to use our unit, testimony and the problems we were having in their law suit, we decided that we did not want to do this. We realized that we were being used in their lawsuit and were not interested in getting involved in it for their purposes. We just wanted to get the problems with our unit solved. We were waiting for days for a part just to repair the coil. So we were without air conditioning during part of the summer plus the flooding was getting worse. We had to put buckets out to collect the dripping water. Air Masters came and did a complete inspection. The technician found many problems with the original installation. They found that the April Aire filter had been cut down in size, as in chopped off, to fit into the closet. It should never have been installed in the first place, as it did not fit. The installers had literally sawed it off in order to make it fit in the closet (the technician from Air Masters showed it to us when they took it out). It had been installed so that it blocked the air flow to the coil. The coil was starved for return air, which is what caused the condensation and water that flooded our home. Also, the original installers put in a 500 square inch return air vent and the technician from Air Masters said it should have been 800 square inches according to the specifications of Carrier. And, the original installer ran ducts directly off of the plenum straight to other rooms in our home, which as I understand it, is interfering with the way the air flow is distributed. In other words, the original installer should have known that our unit was not properly put in, and yet they were blaming our problems in the unit and using us in their lawsuit. Air Masters charged us nothing for the inspection and they put in a sensor to detect and shut off the system in the case of any future water leaking, and they installed another grill to make the airflow better. What a relief to have an answer to what was causing the problems and get them fixed! UPDATE 1/12/2013 Air Masters came to follow up with some things that were going on when we built the house. They re-insulated our ductwork in the attic and checked for any leakages in the ductwork. They also raised the plenum and immediately, we noticed that the airflow to the rooms in our home were evenly distributed. No hurricane like blowing in one room and none in another. The problem was solved. They are personable, effiicient and knowledgeable about A/C and heating systems. I am very happy with their service.
