Warning: Beware of S&S Builders of MS, Inc, and Christopher Scott May Christopher Scott May (S & S Builders of MS, Inc. of Florence, MS) built, and sold, a new house to my son in January of 2017. The lies and deception Scott May perpetrated in order to sell this house to my son is shameful. My son, an Eagle Scout, joined the United States Air Force 15 years ago. While working fulltime to support his family, he studied through endless nights to earn both his bachelors and master’s degrees, and my amazing son continues to serve his country. When I visited him, in July of this year (2017), I planned to complete a few projects around his house. We decided to start with a border around the flowerbeds. In order to see what we were dealing with, I first thing had to remove about a foot deep of pine needles that Scott May had placed abnormally high on top of an already exceedingly high pile of dirt, which was all pushed too high against the exterior brick wall. In the flowerbed, next to the front door, we discovered that Scott May had buried a debris pile under mortar and broken bricks. Along with the broken bricks, and mortar, we dug out nails, cans, bottles, roofing shingles, and other assorted buried trash. During this all day project, to remove the hidden debris pile, we discovered the weep holes (openings at the base of the bricks to allow the walls to breath, and moisture to escape the walls) were suspiciously sealed / caulked with what appeared to be silicone. Also buried beneath pine needles and dirt, we discovered an obscure shoddily fashioned seventeen-foot long, one foot wide, lump of concrete, positioned against the exterior brick wall, which was several bricks above the foundation’s brick ledge. This hideous looking concrete thingamajig had some sort of ugly tar and tarpaper sloshed between it and the bricks. My suspicions were confirmed when Scott May admitted there had been “water damage” to the house prior to my son purchasing it, and the “thingamajig” was his absurd low-cost attempt to fix a problem. Per the regulatory inspector, that sort of patchwork would not pass local building code. On the Property Condition Disclosure Statement, which was an official form that Scott May was required to provide to my son prior to a purchase offer being made, in response to the question, “FOR ANY REASON, has any portion of the residence ever suffered water damage?”, Scott May checked the “No” box, which he know was a lie. Learning of the prior, and concealed, water damage, that Scott said required replacing the carpet, led to our most serious concern, that there might have been mold present in the walls, since Scott May had sealed up the weep holes after the water damage. Lacking integrity, and being the proven liar that he is, initially Scott promised to have the house inspected for the presence of mold. However, after unreasonable delays, and us having to press him to perform, he made up one absurd excuse after another, until he eventually refused to do anything. We further discovered the main water line into the house ran through the flowerbed, buried only three and a half inches underground. With the freeze line for this area being an average of eight inches, this wasn’t adequately buried to the officially recommended depth of sixteen inches. Upon walking the perimeter of the house, we found many of the weep holes were partly covered with the dirt that Scott had pushed up against the house during construction. With the weep holes at so many different levels around the house, it wasn’t apparent that Scott May understood their purpose. When we told Scot about cracks found in the foundation, he replied with a perceptibly “canned” speech. Telling us if we believe there are foundational cracks we would have to hire an engineer, at our expense, to evaluate the cracks, and then have the engineer measure again after a year. Then if we could prove a problem we would have to sue his insurance company, whose lawyers he said would drag out litigation for years. In other words, tough luck, you are stuck with it. We wrote numerous emails to Scott May, trying to resolve so many issues, all of which he said he was afraid to respond to because he might write something that would get him in trouble. Scott May apparently has done so many awful things, and has so much to hide, that he’s afraid to honestly answer even the most simple and direct questions. We have photos, voice recordings, emails, and witness statements to verify these claims. After seeing the poor quality of what Scott May builds, his lack of response to issues he caused, and his lack of integrity, I wouldn’t let him build a dog house for me. Scott May masquerades as a former “youth pastor, something he’s quick to tell everyone about, which is an obvious attempt to mask his demonic lack of honesty and integrity. The crooked needle of this man’s moral compass seems to be steadily pointing in a “southerly” direction.

WARNING!!! BRANDON, FLORENCE, JACKSON, and surrounding area. Scott May of S&S Builders built our first home. We have had several "big issues" with our house that are covered under our one year warranty, and he refuses to fix them. We have consistently met resistance with him. He will not return phone calls, emails, or text messages. These issues are his responsibility to fix. After talking to different people, we have learned he has done this to multiple families. Bo and I have worked so hard to buy our first home and we trusted him to do what he promised and stand behind his work. We trusted him, at least partly, because he told us in our first meeting that he was a youth pastor at a local church. We wanted to share this in hopes of preventing others from being taken advantage of. Research, look at reviews, talk to people because you can't take for granted someone will be honest and trustworthy. WORD OF MOUTH IS EVERYTHING.

Christopher Scott May of S&S Builders was employed in December of 2009 to build my custom home. He received greater than $375,000.00 in cash and drafts from both myself and my bank for the project. He took his last bank draw in May of 2010; however, he never finished the house. I have been left with cabinets that are not attached to the ceiling, no shut off valves under sinks, light switches that don't work, doors that sag and don't close completely, sinks that are so far off center that they are almost unusable, unfinished walls, garage doors that are hanging wrong, fake wood beams, broken tiles, outside finishes that don't match, driveway that is crumbling, cement fixtures that are collapsing, etc., etc., etc. I paid extra for a generator switch that is completely useless and not even the correct kind for our home. The problems are massive. All of these items he was made aware of before closing, and agreed to fix in writing. However, he suggested I "live in the house a few months and find all of the other things that need to be corrected. That way he'd "only have to come out and bother me once to get it all done." Like a fool I believed him, even though he had been almost impossible to work with throughout the project. He never returned and obviously never completed the home. It must be noted that I opted for more expensive, energy efficient appliances that would give me tax credits; however, Mr. May refused to give me the necessary receipts and paperwork to use with my tax returns, even when compelled by an attorney. Thus after months of correspondence and abusive calls from Mr. May, I have employed an attorney and am now suing him. I'd hoped that action would prompt him to finish the house. No such luck. I am also now filing complaints with the Home Builders Association and Better Business Bureau. The list of problems with my home is greater than 5 pages long, and I have already had to employ plumbers, electricians, landscapers, etc. to correct some of the more urgent problems which has been extremely expensive, and wholly unnecessary.
