I didn't get him to do the work due to a very tight budget at the time and we usually DIY
Description of Work: he came and did an estimate and i was very impressed with his professionalism but his price was outside my budget and we are usually DIYers but had too much to do so just put the job off until later. His price might be in line with other contractors but I don't have a lot of experience with up to date quotes. I'm sure he would do a good job though.

The owner came out to give us an estimate. at that time he explained that they were very busy from work that came from a hail storm that had happened several months ago. I appreciated his honesty. I expected it to take a while for us to come up on his list but it didn't take as long as I had expected. When they got started they stayed with us until the work was finished. Not only the owner but also his workers listened to what I wanted done, made suggestions that may be better options and then let me decide which way I wanted to have the work done. He saved me about $600. by doing this as I was unsure if I wanted to go ahead with having the vent removed and patched then or later. If I had waited it would have cost much more. They showed up when the said they would, did the work they were hired to do ( and really did a great job. I was really leery of having stippling patched but the fellow who did the work was a real artist at his craft. They cleaned up after the job was done and I couldn't be more satisfied. After the work was finished the owner called to make arrangements to come out to be paid. I really liked this because it gave us time to really look over the work they had done. Although we were very happy with the work, I felt confident that if there had been a problem that it would have been fixed. I will definitely call them when I need other work done on the house. Thank you C.A. Construction for a job well done.
Description of Work: Replaced one ceiling, patched two ceilings, stippled one ceiling, patched stippling on three ceilings, painted four ceilings, removed fan vent from one ceiling, Put up one ceiling fan medallion, and put up 60 ft of seamless gutter with two down spouts.

This is a great company! They are quick and very professional. I called Chris to take care of my customer that an employee stepped thru the ceiling. Chris called her the same day to get the work scheduled. The customer was happy with CA Construction and was happy with me for sending great contractors to the home. I used CA construction again for a broken ladder in the ceiling and they fixed that problem in less than an hour. I will use this company anytime I need a handyman!39

I had to supply all my own materials. He had great ratings on Angie's List, which is why I used him. But I was not very happy. There was just poor communication. He was too busy with other projects and didn’t supervise well on my project. There was a lot of sloppy work that they had to redo. Overall, it looks nice. But there were a lot of things that if I hadn’t pointed out, they wouldn’t have done it right. The price was very fair. His drywall guy was terrible. With regard to responsiveness, he responded but didn’t initiate it. They finished on time. With regard to professionalism, he was a really nice guy, but I shouldn’t have had to go following along behind them to point out all the mistakes his guys were making; he should have been here to do that. I would not use them again.

The provider gave an initial quote and found out that the original quote did not correctly calculate the taxes. The original estimate from the insurance company was less than correct and the CA estimator pointed that out to us and got in touch with the insurance company - who agreed and revised it upwards. Because the weather had been rainy, CA was fully "booked". However, they kept up within a week of the duly scheduled date to do our house. We were informed that the materials would be delivered and sure enough the truck came and delivered the shingles and the accessories etc. The job was expected to be completed in 3 days. However, our roof has a lot of angles and sharp pitches for this reason it took another 2 days. There was bad wood in 3 locations which was replaced. The CA owner would come by thrice a day and go over the job with his supervisor (who was at the job site). At the end of the day they would meet with us and appraise us of their activities for that day and what was going to be done the following day. There were times certain things had to be redone- which were then redone to our satisfaction. They were very keen that we be satisfied in every respect. They were apologetic about the extra days - but my wife and I did not particularly worry about that as long as we got a professional job because of our experience with the previous roofer. At the end of it I think we got an above average job from a professional outfit.
Description of Work: Roof Replacement. The roof needed replacing. CA visited us in March at our request and photographed and measured the roof . Found out that the owner was certified master roofer and had an engineering degree as well. We had been unhappy when our roof was replaced last - about 15 years ago. This go around we wanted to be sure that we got the right people to do the job. They were very patient and responded to all our queries. They brought multiple samples since we wanted to go with a different color. They laid them in sections on the roof so that we could contrast it with the walls and truely see what worked best for us. Our neighbours on their daily walks also gave us their opinion- which we took into account in our decision making process. CA explained in detail what all was going to be done and followed it up with a detailed quote which was emailed to us.

I was need of quick service. I got on Angie's List and read some reviews and found Chris. I made a phone call and got a quick response. They showed up the same day. The service guys were friendly and helpful. I needed an attic ladder replaced. The house I was working at was for sale and was expected to close the next day. I never expected the response to be so quick and easy. They cleaned up more than I expected. I will recommend and use C A Construction anytime I need a handyman. Thanks Angie's List and CA Construction.

After receiving the estimate it took a few weeks to get me on the calendar, which was ok with me because it was a small job. Once he gave me the date of service it went exactly as planned. He showed up on the date promised and completed all 3 jobs in just a few hours. The actual charge was the same as the estimate, which was a very good price that included both materials and labor. I highly recommend CA Construction.

Master Bathroom Shower Shower was not installed properly; it is not square which has created problems for the glass shower doors that were installed. I think it?s important to note that when I mentioned this to Chris, he made a comment to me about ?where did you get these doors and how much did you pay for them?? which offended me and made me second guess the money that I had spent on the doors. However, at that time, I was not aware that the shower was not square ? he built the frame!! Right frame of shower door does not meet tile. Clear sealant was used to fill the gap from the frame to the tile. Sealant was used around shower door frame and is very visible and messy. It spreads out onto many of the tiles. With the shower opening not being square, the doors have unacceptable adjustments. Pictures are attached that show doors pulled back to the stops. Visually you can see the problems because trying to photograph them closed was difficult due to the frame. Note: At one point, Chris questioned the price of the door and insinuated they seemed cheap. Sealant that was applied around frame is messy and left build-up. The grout in the shower was not spaced properly - it looks like the grout lines are double spaced and some of the spacers are stuck in the grout. I think the wrong type of grout was used. The shower bench appears to be crumbling, and the grout was not cleaned properly and is everywhere. It looks horrid. Grout along tile on ceiling that meets the sheetrock ceiling is very messy and left all over ceiling, which had already been painted. Grout is also cracking in many places. New Cabinet in Master Bath Drawer will not close to sit flush against the cabinet. This cabinet also has a drawer that I requested be no larger than 10? and it is 14 1/2? deep! On the newly installed cabinet, there is a visible saw blade cut on the side that faces the door of the bathroom & mirror. I really, really cannot believe that a professional contractor did this! Ceiling sheetrock was not cut out and replaced where old light box was removed. Chris should have cut out and put a new piece in before the crown molding was installed. It was understood that Chris knew he was supposed to patch sheetrock! He was not responsible for floating sheetrock or painting. Light Fixture New light fixture was installed but does not sit flush against wood/wall. Also, when we purchased the light fixtures, we purposely bought them to match in the master bath and the hall bath. When they were installed, they were not placed in the same position in both bathrooms ? I understand that one has 3 lights and the other has two, but we wanted them to hang over the mirror at the same length. He certainly did not pay attention to detail here. Woodwork was installed prior to the mirror. Mirror was glued onto wall. There was about 2/16? to ¼? space between mirror and the molding. Chris gave me measurements for mirror and I had them cut at a local glass company. The mirror did not sit on backsplash across the bottom. Discussed with Chris, his response was ?have the painters caulk it?. We feel he should have addressed and corrected. It doesn?t seem like it should matter if a wall may not be square or whatever problems arise, we expected things to be addressed and corrected when necessary. Instead, we were told after the fact, ?Oh, your wall was not straight?. Chris did come back and add a ½? strip around the mirror that covers the gaps around mirror. I, Tammy, attempted to buy some tinted caulk to fill the gap at the bottom of mirror and backsplash. You will see from the pictures that the color was not exactly correct. We feel Chris should have addressed and corrected all these issues with the mirror. After the fact, Chris said to me, ? there were two options for installing the wood molding and mirror and in hindsight I should have mounted the mirror and then installed the molding? Bi-Fold Doors · There is a large gap (1/4? to ½?) between doors when they are closed. Shoe Molding Entering bath to the left, molding was never installed. Molding was not installed under vanity. The work completed in our bathroom (and everywhere?) seems to lack attention to detail, is very unsatisfactory, and does not appear professionally done and we have discussed our concerns with Chris numerous times. Hall Bathroom The glass front doors for new cabinet were built 4? too narrow. The doors were delivered on and my painters painted the doors. The doors were picked up glass was cut. No one ever checked to confirm that the doors delivered were the correct size (what Chris ordered). On or around December 12th, Chris came to install doors and finally realized they were too narrow. Chris was sure to tell me that he ordered the correct size but the manufacturer sent the wrong size. He did not offer to order new ones, instead gave me two options for correcting them: insert a middle board or reduce the size of the opening by making the trim casing around the door larger. He removed a piece around the front of the cabinet to compensate for the mistake. At this point in the process, I did agree to this alteration however, I?m sharing this because I feel it points to the lack of attention to detail as the doors could and should have been checked soon after delivery. One thing we would like to point out, we really never saw Chris make any notes in a notebook regarding measurements or details from conversations. We did witness Chris make notations on the wall, but we feel having notes and measurements would have been extremely beneficial. New fixtures were installed in bath tub/shower. In the picture below, I have marked a tile which fell off after installation. The tile was glued back and never re-grouted. Also, the grout around tub and tile was missing about 2? under the faucet, which was never re-grouted after the new fixture was installed. The faucet handles at the sink are not in the same ?off? position. You will see in the picture below that the handle to the left stops at a far different spot than the handle to the right. Please note in the picture below, the bottom right corner under the ¼? strip that was required to cover gap in the mirror in this bathroom was glued to the mirror without removing the barcode label. Light above mirror; please see pictures of the light fixtures in both bathrooms. As you can see, it is the same style fixture with identical mounting base but they were not hung at the same place. Again, a complete lack of attention to detail. Since the molding and mirror are the same height from the ceiling, the light fixtures should hang at the same place in both bathrooms. Storm Door ? Installed at Front Door We purchased a new Pella storm door. After CA Construction?s installation, you had to lift the handle up to open the door. We realized that the handle on the door had been installed up-side-down and my neighbor corrected the door handle to push down the next day. When this was mentioned to Chris, his response was ?we did not see how to do it any other way?. The door was not hung properly and there is a large gap at the bottom which defeats the purpose of having a storm door as this gap allows debris and rain to seep into the house. Again, we are left wondering whether they just don?t care or lack the knowledge that is needed to complete such a seemingly easy task professionally. Kitchen Backsplash Pictures attached of backsplash after it was installed, I was extremely upset with this and wrote notes which I placed on counter and sticky notes on tiles for Chris on 11/7/12. Chris came by to pick up a check left for him. He let me a note that day that we would work on and correct. No one ever came and addressed the problems. The backsplash is not installed professionally! There is still this ?stuff? that is at the bottom of tile and still comes over onto my quartz counter top. My backsplash is not level or smooth. It seems they did not sit it flush against the wall and dried this way. Please refer to pictures. I really don?t know what else to say about it!
Description of Work: Remodeling - Kitchen and Bathroom. The work that was performed at our home by CA Construction was not done in a professional manner. These things were pointed out to CA numerous times. They were not corrected, and it feels like he did not care about the project. I do not feel like I got the same experience as other members. When we decided to remodel our house after 23 years, I was excited to join Angie’s List and find a reputable contractor. After joining and researching the favorable reviews, we chose Chris Allen of CA Construction. We contacted CA Construction and Chris Allen visited our home and we provided him with a list of our needs and discussed the job and he provided us with a proposal on July 14, 2012 for labor and “roughing material” of $9958.58 including tax. Work on our remodel began in September 2012. The first week of the project went relatively smooth. They began demolition on the master bath, replaced sheet rock in garage, and replaced fascia boards on the exterior of the house – all this work seemed to be done without incident. The next week there was a delay in the delivery of the new kitchen counter-tops and work was suspended for a couple of weeks; CA Construction seemed to be relieved that they could focus on other jobs. Once work was able to be resumed on our project, CA Construction returned and began work on the master bath, hall bath and kitchen. Please see the extensive list of issues that I have with the quality of work that was done to our home. Pictures attached.

I agree that this project took longer to complete than I would have liked. Through delays with material suppliers, and my own busy schedule caused the project to continue on longer than it should have. During this project the customers had concerns that were brought to my attention, and by the end of the project it was my understanding that the issues were resolved to their satisfaction.

Chris Allen was straight forward. Many people in construction related businesses will tell you one thing and do another, will tell you they will be there just to put off a little longer . Chris did not do this , but was straight forward and honest from the start. Those people do these things becasue they must keep thier crew working and are trying to juggle jobs and jobs often take longer than expected. (just part of the nature of the industry) they mistakenly think they have to say the "right" thing to the customer. What these lies do in truth is to erode customer satifaction and trust. Chris Allen did none of this. As silly as the subject may seem, this often has so much to do with peoples fructration with builders. Chris understands this and does what he says he will do. The jobsite is kept reasonably clean, the work is done correctly, and the fellow is available. My only hesitation of giving the boy too good a review is I want him to be available in a few months when I am ready for the next thing on the list.

Chris was very professional when returning my calls regarding my urgency for having an estimate given and needing this work completed ASAP he was accommodating as well. The workers he sent over were also very polite, professional and did excellent work. After all was completed the mess was cleaned up exceptionally well!! I was very impressed with the overall performance from the administrative aspect to the work performed down to the invoice faxed to me after completion.
Description of Work: We had a leak from the A/C lines that were in the ceilings and had frozen and thawed over a few days causing excessive water damage to two ceilings in two apartments. After allowing all the water to drain the ceilings were very wet and the C&A had to cut some of the ceiling out and repair with sheetrock, paint, etc.

Did a great job overall. Had to come back out to re-do a couple of ceiling seams, but no problems there. Agreed it wasn't right and very quickly fixed it at no additional cost or problems. Great working with this firm. Did everything as agreed upon at a good price. Work was completed as scheduled and they made sure we were absolutely satisfied with the results. They were also able to match the ceiling stipling which is very hard to do with repair. Very good work and very pleased.

A very impressive, professional company representative (the owner) did the estimate, as described above. I will definitely call him again.
Description of Work: I was very impressed with the owner, who arrived promptly to do the estimate. He did a thorough assessment and asked for my input. Then he fully explained what he planned to do. His estimate was a little higher than SOME others, but lower than MOST. He was very professional and he promptly followed up with an estimate, which completely outlined his proposed project. The estimate included specific materials, their cost, labor cost, and sales tax, as well as payment terms. It, too, was presented very professionally. I would not hesitate to call him to do an estimate in the future, and would not hesitate to use him. It just didn't work out this time.

Very punctual to provide estimate, very courteous and knowledgeable, but took 5 days to get a quote on a small bathroom remodel that involved mostly labor (I was to provide tile, toilet, etc.). Price was much too high, so I decided to perform the work myself. In his defense, the job was fairly small so he would not have made much from it. However, I would give him another opportunity if i had a larger remodeling job.

Chris and his crew showed up exactly at 8 am. The very first thing they did was to lay down tarps everywhere they were going to walk and work. He then discussed with us exactly what we wanted. Since this project took several days they would clean up everyday before they left. At the end Chris made sure that we were totally satisfied with the outcome. If we wanted some adjustments made he did so cheerfully and graciously. We have used Chris many times and will continue to do so.

I am, quite unfortunately, revising my original review. Mr. Allen did indeed do a very good job on my patio; however, as stated in my original review it was very important to me, and made abundantly clear at the beginning and throughout the project to Mr. Allen, that I wanted my yard returned to its original state after the construction was completed. This did not happen. Prior to the project the yard was a sodded, level yard. After the project it was a mass of ruts and holes. Mr. Allen put down hay and assured us that the hay would seed and produce the same grass as before the construction. My husband and I were very doubtful, but willing to go on a little faith. We were wrong. We ended up with approximately 1/2 acre of ruts, holes and mud. Mr. Allen refused to correct it. I reminded him of my original requirements, but all I got was that he would have needed to charge me more to return the yard to the pre-construction state. Also, during the construction a window in the back door was broken by his crew. It was replaced, but not without damage to the door. I asked him when he was going to fix this and repaint it. His response was that he supposed he could fix it. I assumed he would fully correct any damage his crew did to my home. Clearly this was not the case. So, in the end we have a heavily damaged driveway from the construction vehicles, we've had to have the yard leveled and re-sodded, and we have a back door that needs to be repaired and repainted. The patio is lovely, once you get past the massive flooring error. Will I use Mr. Allen again? Probably not, which is unfortunate as the bulk of the project was magnificent. But..........the devils in the details. The yard should have been returned to its original state as required and made abundantly clear in the original negotiations meetings.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mr. Allen came to the house the first of October. I orally described what I wanted. Mr. Allen wanted Architectural plans. I said no, he said, "well ok". We agreed on a price and he began. He was well aware that the project had to be completed by the 1st of November. As prefaced for this review, I have lots of experience with builders. I expected him to be late, unprofessional, and to do things "his way." None of that happened. Mr. Allen was here nights, weekends, from before dawn to well after dark, and when he couldn't be here, his father was (a delightful man). His crew of contractors was extremely proficient. Mr. Allen took the time to actually listen to what I was saying, and conceptualize it into his work. Not only did I get exactly what I was looking for, but much more, and so much better than I had hoped for. He offered suggestions that I would never have thought of, and that were spot on for what I was looking for. He brought in people that were creative experts in their area. The stamped and stained cement floor is grossly flawed, but it was either live with it or have the entire floor torn up and the whole thing redone. The woodwork is spot on with a tongue-and-groove ceiling and Cypress beams that are lovely, as is the fireplace. So, it's the first of November and the project is done. There are of course things that have come up like doors that don't close, a back door that needs to be repaired and painted after his crew broke the window, and I required that he repair the landscaping to its original state when he was done, which we are assuming he will do. What I expected was what I had consistently experienced from all of the other builders, of which there were 14 previous, and that was that once they had their money they were gone. It does not appear that Mr. Allen will fall into their footsteps.
Description of Work: First let me say that I have extensive experience with builders. I have a 4500 sq ft custom, Spanish Hacienda style home on 6 acres that has required custom everything. After 4 years of absolutely horrible, and insanely expensive experiences with people calling themselves reputable builders, I was so hesitant to begin this project that I waited 3 years to even get bids. So, with that said, Mr. Allen was one of several contractors I requested bids from. It is also very important to note that I chose to contact him based solely on his Angie's List information. The project was a monster project. I wanted a custom Spanish Hacienda style enclosed patio with an adobe style fireplace, skylights that would not require any cleaning or maintenance, and it had to match the house perfectly, including the Cypress Beams, tongue-and- groove wood ceiling, cement smear to look like stucco, as well as be ready for the new tile roof. The existing structure and foundation had to be removed, along with the roof and walls, and they would not have access to the inside of the house while I was at work. The dimensions were to be no less than 18' x 35', and I needed it done in less than a month. Also of note, I had no Architectural plans, nor was I willing to get any (seeing an Architect in Jackson, MS about a Spanish Style anything will yield less positive results than spitting in the wind!). As I'm from So. California and grew up in a Hacienda, what I did have was a clear idea of what I wanted, and a book of pictures.

Chris gave us a quote and stuck to it. The crew was always on time and even finished the job earlier than originally predicted. Both Chris and Robby kept us informed throughout the process and made sure that we were getting just what we wanted. The results were great. We have already made plans to have them do our entire house. Everyone was professional, respectful, and efficient. We highly recommend both C A Construction and Robby Hayes of Color Stone Decking and Flooring to anyone interested in having similar work done in their home.

When I called C A Construction, the proprietor, Chris took my call and was realistic in when someone would be able to come out and do an estimate and repair. I had called on Monday after a weekend of rain and there were other calls in front of me and with rain in the forecast for the upcoming Thursday, I was afraid I would have to suffer through more leaking on my water heater if they were that backed up. I was impressed when he called me back to let me know someone would come out the next day to do an estimate. I didn't realize the roofer would be prepared to do the work right then and there! Gene, the roofer, took pictures and showed me the issues he had found that were in addition to my water heater vent cap. He repaired the roof leak around my water heater vent cap, as well as booting around my other vents and caulking, he also replaced plastic nailings that were also leaking in my roof.
Description of Work: I had the roof repaired around my water heater vent cap. Also the repairman, Gene, repaired booting around my other vents and caulking. Replaced plastic nailings that were also leaking in other parts of my roof unbeknownst to me. He took pictures of the issues and showed me what he found and how he could repair the other issues in addition to repairing the water heater vent cap.

They did a very good job for a reasonable price.
Description of Work: Chris came over and gave us an estimate. He had his painter come back and spot paint the ceilings in 3 rooms including the garage. Completely repainted the kitchen ceiling.

I submitted a request to CA Construction several weeks ago via Angie's list. After a few days I did receive an e-mail from the owner stating that he would be by in a few days to give me an estimate. I never heard from him again. I was very disappointed, as his reviews had all been very favorable and noted his professionalism.

Overall experience was not good and I will not call him again.
Description of Work: I contacted this provider ten days ago, described the job I had and made appointment to meet him today. He did not come or call. I returned to my home to check calls to see if he had attempted to contact me at home number. No attempt had been made. I called him and was able to reach him. I identified myself. He apologized and said he had just forgotten. I told him I had gotten someone else to do the crawl space doors (but my job included other things). He did not ask if I had been able to get someone to take care of these and I have not.
