Baber and Son

I got prices from several people in surrounding area. Baber and son was supposed to be a reputable gate contractor. The son Brandon Baber did a reasonalbe job on instillation of the gate controls and operators even though he messed up on the quote and I even gave him more money than he originaly quoted.. Then on day he was not employed by the company. i Got a call from the dad Chuck Baber that his son was no longer employed by this company. I asked who was going to finish the gate instillation as I was having problems with one of the controls. He told me that I should buy a new control and send hinm the balance of his money. I asked who ws going to warranty the instillation and his comment was not his company. So now the gate is broken again. I guess I will have to call the manufacturer to find someone to warranty the gates. Mr. Baber you will not be ikn business long with your attitude.

Mr. Baber arrived as per the appointment; measured the area we wanted fenced, and provided a quote for the fence and installation. He stated materials would be ordered and should arrive within two weeks. He stated installation would be done approximately 3 weeks after we signed the contract. We agreed and signed the contract on March 11, 2013. Half the agreed price was paid in advance. At two weeks I called to obtain an approximate date for installation and was told the fencing material had not yet been received. When asked why it was delayed, he became very defensive and stated he had not given a time or date for the installation. I asked why hadn't he simply called and advised us of the delay and there was no response other than that he had been "too busy". On the fourth week he called to say the fence was in and would be installed that week. It was incompletely installed on a Friday and was delayed until Monday due to absence of needed materials. The installation was sloppy, with uneven lines. The installers were very courteous, however. Approximately two weeks later we received a call requesting the balance of the contract amount. My husband explained we were not happy with the installation and requested Mr. Baber do an on-site visit to review the installation and make the necessary adjustments before we paid the balance. Mr. Baber waited several weeks (2-3) before arriving to inspect the installation. He did not call prior to arriving. Fortunately we were home. He agreed that there were problems with the installation and stated he would have a crew out that same week to make the corrections. It was several weeks before there was any further attention to the fence. Again, Mr. Baber failed to make contact to state there would be a delay; instead, he simply showed up July 9, 2013 with different workers who worked on the fence. Only a portion of the problems could be corrected. There is still one area where the top line of the fence is not level. Mr. Baber relied upon his installer request the balance of the money owed. Having been in retail and service business, we understand that sometimes customers can be demanding. We also understand that manufacturers may have shipping delays. However, a simple phone call at each delay would have gone a long way to preserve the professionalism of Baber and Son, and we would have understood. Instead, we were on the receiving end of misrepresentation, compounded by lies and avoidance tactics, as well as angry, defensive exchanges. What should have been a 3 or 4 week process ended up taking 4 months to be completed. Price was competitive with other fence companies in the area, but customer service and quality workmanship are sorely lacking. We will not use this company again and cannot recommend his services.
