Very pleased. On time, clean and professional.
Description of Work: Midtown did a very great job. We are very impressed with the quality of the product and workmanship. The fence was built custom for my yard. They cleaned up work related debris and left no mess. I have worked with other contractors on my house and I have to say I should have used Midtown in the past. GREAT JOB !!! I will recommend MIDTOWN. Thank you and maybe next spring you can built a deck for me.

For the most part the experience was good. Bob came and was very professional but we came to an impasse on removing the ceramic tile and prepping the floor for hardwoods. The grout was tough to remove from the floorboards and Midtown claimed it was not their responsibility to remove it, only to remove the tile itself. Me and the wife ended up buying a chipper and removing the grout ourselves. A couple minor issues after we have had the kitchen for a bit but overall I'd rate them a B. I would not automatically use them again but would certainly entertain a bid from them if we were to do more work.

We went in only wanting two windows replaced, but were soon ohh'd and aww'd by the sales presentation of triple pane argon gas windows, energy savings, safety latches on windows for the kids, and the transferable warranty that covered everything including if our child threw a baseball through it. 19,000$ later, we find it difficult to set up time for them to come out. They seem to be always late, or the letter's in the mail, type of thing. My sliding glass door still needs to be fixed, and we are very upset, contemplating getting an attorney.

Response from Midtown Home Improvements
This window project was completed in 2004, almost 7 years ago. Midtown has provided no cost service calls for warranty related items. Most recently Midtown provided repairs to the sliding door. The repair rep felt that the damage was not warranty related but made the fix any way as a customer service courtesy. We have been helping customers with remodeling needs for over 21 years. We have around 12,000 customers. At some point we cannot provide no cost repairs when the damage was inflicted by the homeowner, its guests or pets. In this instance we have photos that show neglect and abuse of the products by the homeowner. We indicated such and informed them that this was not a warranty issue since that type of damage is excluded by most companies. For example, if a homeowner places a fire pit too close to siding and it burns, that is not a warranty issue. Most homeowners understand that. For example, if your children let their bikes fall against your new car and cause damage to the paint, GM would not allow that as a warranty issue. We regret that this homeowner is so upset however we have been in business for 21 years. We take care of our customer issues, many times when we are not technically required to do so. At times we have to politely say no to requests that cannot be honored or those that are beyond the very responsive service we do provide to our customers. I trust Angie's List members will understand.

With so many good contractors in town, do yourself a favor and hire somebody else. Although the subcontractors sent to do the actual work were terrific, the thousands of dollars spent for the "management" of the job by Midtown were totally wasted. It started with the salesmen trying to pull a fast one by suggesting that the job be done without pulling city permits and even offering a $6,000 discount to forgo permitting. I guess it didn't matter to them that we could get hit with penalties and have difficulty selling the house in the future. They would already have their money. Despite the high cost of the job and being repeatedly told that we were a high priority, we received perhaps 2 or 3 contractor-initiated phone calls. The rest of the time it was like pulling teeth, with 3 or even 4 calls just to get a simple question answered. Furthermore, services such as the installation of a temporary sink were promised, forgotten, and then refused. The biggest problem revolved around the sink. At the contractor's instructions, we purchased the sink from another vendor with whom they had worked in the past according to their provided specifications. This was several weeks before the job even started. Unfortunately, the crack management team at Midtown forgot about a modification made to the cabinetry, and it was the company installing the granite counter tops who noticed that the sink was too large and needed to be replaced. This resulted in a roughly 2-week delay during which nothing happened. I'm sure glad we didn't go with one of those "guys in a truck" they warned us about who can't be relied on to notice these types of things. Finally, when our concerns were noted to the management of the company, along with a starting request for compensation, we were informed of 3 things. (1) My marriage was criticized for its lack of communication because despite my wife's concerns about the poor contact with the company, the telephone logs showed lots of calls. I'm sure that's true because even the smallest of questions required an initial call, a follow-up call to remind them of the first call, sometimes a second follow-up, and then the call where the answer was (maybe) provided. (2) The issue with the sink was actually our fault because instead of buying a sink directly from the contractor, an option not provided to us by the contractor, we had the audacity to purchase a sink from the place they sent us according to the specifications they provided. Good times! (3) This is my favorite. The manager said that because the contract did not contain any clauses about customer service or time frame for the job, they had "delivered the bare minimum of what was required in the contract." I have to admit, they've got me there. I should have demanded a clause saying they would do a good job and not act like jerks. In short, if you've got money that you don't need and feel like lining the pockets of one of the worst-managed businesses in the state, Midtown is for you. For anybody else, go find a guy in a truck. At least they might be honest. As an update, I have documentation showing that my report is accurate and that the provider is lying through his teeth, including relevant portions of the contract and other forms given to us by the provider's employees. Does he? I want no money from this provider and truthfully expected nothing more than some minor compensation and perhaps an apology; the insults, disrespect, and lies were a surprise. If my "campaign" amounts to anything, I hope it will be to save the reader some headaches and wasted money.

Response from Midtown Home Improvements
We regret that this customer has such a bad feeling. In reality all was great with this project until the last two weeks. At that time, the customer purchased its own sink in order to save money. The customer got the wrong size. Midtown would prefer that all our customers purchase all material from us. In this way Midtown is responsible for sourcing the product, delivering it to the job site and for installation. If there are any clitches in the process Midtown can generally get it remedied due to our volume purchasing ability with our regular vendors. In this instance the customer ordered the wrong size. There was about a two week delay for the vendor, not Midtown to provide the replacement sink. The customer chose where to buy their sink and as a result the customer had to wait for the sink to be replaced by its source. By the way, most custom orders take time to arrive. The roughly two weeks was not out of line for this type of product. When the sink arrived Midtown completed the job. At that point, customer's wife called Midtown. She was hell bent on receiving a $3,000.00 dollar discount due to the delay resulting from the sink. We respectfully declined. It was not our fault, the job was beautiful and most homeowners would have been satisfied and understanding. She was adamant and not very friendly. As a courtesy we offered to send the homeowners to dinner at our expense at their favorite restaurant since we did not want to end this beautiful project on such a note. She forcefully declined. From that point on her husband has been engaged in a campaign to shout to the world about this issue. In all honesty it stems from the refusal of Midtown to give in to an angry person in order to satisfy these homeowners over a short delay for which they were responsible. We have always tried to do what is right. Giving in to customers who are attempting to be over reaching is not fair or reasonable. If you have any questions, please call Midtown's owner and speak directly to him. We really care and are disturbed by this type of customer reaction. Midtown has been in business over 21 years and has over 12,000 customers. Out of 12,000 plus customers we will likely run into some like this one. We regret that our Angie's List customers have to see this but we feel that now that you know the entire story you will really "understand" what this complaint was about.

The windows we purchased were high quality triple-pane windows and we are very happy with the results. They were more expensive than loss leader ads from competitors but the quality is what won us over. We can no longer feel cold air coming through the windows when shut, and they will last a long time.

The salesmen were two of the most professional duo I have ever been around. These guys knew what they were taking about. Listened to my ideas, even though many were not practical, design a plan and made my dream kitchen come true. Prices were fantastic for this type of professionalism. Many of my friends have paid almost double what I did. Midtown's marketing concept worked for both of us. I have made several mistakes with trying to save money in the past going with the small guy (referred by a friend) or the crew on the side type of thing. I was burned every time. Midtown and team, I give you two thumbs up.

I am from the old school. I did research before getting qoutes, watched HGTV, talked to friends as well as getting several bids but when it came down to choosing which company I was impressed with the salesmans knowledge, professionalism and the overall history of the company as well as their credentails. I didn't go with the low bid and many others were alot higher. Midtown was referred to me and I will refer them to others. I worked with other "remodelers" in the past and nothing is what they said. Midtown deliveried on the job promised, communicated thru the whole process and completed the work in the time frame they stated. I AM COMPLETELY SATISFIED and am in the process of working with them on the next home improvement. THANK YOU MIDTOWN!!!!!!!

Midtown did it again. I have been trying to button-up my home with winter coming and looked to Midtown to perform the services I needed. I worked with them in the past, as well as other contractors. Midtown was the only contractor I considered. I did not feel like going through the whole bid process again. I felt that if the price was within a reasonable range, I would work with the only contractor that did what they promised on previous jobs. No change orders or extras, fast, friendly and performed the work as promised in a timely manner. I LOVE THE WAY MY HOME LOOKS. My neighbors are also thanking me (ha ha) for keeping up the property values. THANK YOU AGAIN MIDTOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was painful. I received 7 estimates on fencing and this is the only company that used pressure sales and made me feel like I was haggling over a used car. When they left my house, I was exhausted. They quoted me an original price and then started the "if you do this, then the price will be reduced to" and "if you'll commit today, the price will be". I didn't commit the first time they came out. So they continued to call and call to see if I could have another person (higher up on the food chain) give me an estimate. I did and the final price that I was quoted was less than half of the original quote and still more than all other fencing quotes. Again, they used pressure sales techniques. I could tell that I irritated them when I told them no, but marketing and pressure sales do not make me want to do business with them. I am convinced that they use a great product, but they also use lots of marketing lines and have obviously had some sort of sales training. If you're into wheeling and dealing, this company is for you. If not, I'd recommend someone else.

At times during the past 20 years in business we run across some people that are shoppers as opposed to serious buyers. This may have been one of those. We install hundreds of vinyl fences a year and have been in business since 1991. We must do some things right! Our prices must be fair and our service very good. Seven other companies visited with this person and could not sell her anything. This person is correct, we sell great prouducts. Our KROY vinyl fence has a lifetime warranty in addition to a workmanship warranty that exceeds most companies. This review does not reflect properly on the Midtonw hisotory.

Midtown replaced the my existing roof. A salesman came by with a presentation. A few things he said I am not so sure of, like getting the "A" crew (how do you verify that?). Salesman also mentioned about not having a crew in an old beat up pickup truck sitting in front of your house, implying a company vehicle of some sort. Well they showed up in a beat up van. The vehicle they drove does not matter to me, it was the idea of the salesman saying something to set his company apart, that is not delivered upon. What other things did he promise that was not delivered on that don't know about? I had a couple of leaks in the roof, so they were out in the cold. The salesman said they don't work until it is 40 degrees, but they began work in the 30s, which we did not expect. Again I am fine as long as you communicate with me. Though I did have a couple of hitches like this, the crew supervisor, Tino, was very good at addressing any issues I presented to him. He seemed very genuine and interested in maintaining the quality of his work. The quality of the workmanship appears good to me so far. Leaks were taken care of, they covered two replacement pieces of plywood in their estimate and did not charge me for more. The place was left very clean and free of debris. The regional supervisor gave us his number and everytime we called, he did answer the phone. Overall a good experience, just the salesman leaves me a bit overhyped.

Construction appeared fine. It wasn't until later the mold started showing up in the Trex deck flooring. Contacted Midtown. They said everything needs maintenance (even though they advertise maintenance free) and referred me to Trex. Trex admitted no fault, but sent free cleaning material. It was so caustic, I hired a professional to apply. The deck looked great until the first rain (2 weeks later) and the mold started reappearing. Midtown would do nothing. I filled a BBB complaint. The BBB told me the GM would respond. No response after first connection. I gave up. Recently, a guy that powerwashed the vinyl siding (reasonable maintenance), said he could clean & seal the deck. During the cleaning process, he found that the mold is impregnated into the deck boards, and coming out the bottom, so sealing wouldn't help & the mold will continue to come back.

Please note that this report concerns a project that was completed 9 years ago, in 2001. A representative from Midtown Home Improvement came out before and showed us lots of different samples, and walked us through the process. Because we measured our new fridge wrong, they had to replace a cabinet and that took a little longer, but it was our fault and they were very professional throughout the project. The price is hard to judge if it's high, since it's our first project of this kind, but with quality of their work, it was worth it. We're considering using them for a bathroom remodel project.

After checking the company out on Angie's list and speaking to them at the local home show, I had their salesman come by for estimates on two projects, a new deck and soffits and fascia. The salesman, Tom, was very nice, but rather pushy about signing with them for a new deck. Offered a lower price if I signed right away, but stood my ground, as I wanted to get other estimates for the deck project. I did however sign a contract for the soffits and fascia, as it was a reasonable price for the job. The crew showed up within two days of my signing the contract and did a quick and excellent job in putting up the soffits and fascia. I would recommend Midtown Home Improvement for the work that they did on my house.
