Everything went well, they did everything they could to allow access to the back door when they were done each night and the same for the driveway access to the house.
Description of Work: they took out an existing concrete patio and replaced it. The existing slab was broken. They also repaired two spots in my driveway and added a section along side the existing driveway.

Mr. Bob Crain, the principle, the office staff and the crew are exceptional in all regards. It was such a pleasure to deal with craftsmen, and my wife and I could not be more pleased and satisfied with the service we received. I would and will recommend Crain General Contracting to anyone without reservation. This company is a credit to the industry. Bob Crain does what he says and more. He is accommodating and offers recommendations/suggestions that comes from a thorough knowledge of the business.
Description of Work: Crain Contracting repaired a lateral foundation crack that ran approximately forty foot. They excavated a two foot trench to the foundation footing on the outside, installed four piers(anchors), sixteen tiebacks, realign foundation wall after jacking the home to relieve pressure, installed exterior drain tile the entire run of the wall (Approx. sixty feet), repaired the cracks with a tar seal with a rubber barrier plus more tar over the barrier, backfilled with 2" clean rock and topped off with an acceptable appearance rock surface. In addition, they replaced an old patio and also graded approximately seventy percent of the back yard and upgraded the patio area.

I called many companies to get estimates to stop water from coming in to my crawl space and then onto my new carpeting in my basement. All companies wanted to put a sump pump in the basement in the crawl space. I feel that this is a band aid for the real issue. Yes this would solve my problem but why let the water come in and then pump it back out. Crain General Contracting wanted to do the work performed on the outside and put in a sump on the inside. Most other companies only wanted to do work on the inside. I called and talked to Bob about it and he said yes I could do the work on just the outside and that should take care of my problem. So he gave me another proposal with just the work on the outside and a caution that it will cost more later on down the road if I need to put a sump in. This is understandable, since they would have to duplicate some work they already did, but I was willing to take the chance. So I proceeded to have the work done on the outside. Hey did a great job overall and I would recommend them. They did exactly what they said they would do and there was no games involved with price.
Description of Work: Installed drain pipe on gutter downspout using hard plastic drain pipe, not the ridged drain tile, out to a place where the water can drain far away from the home using popup drain spouts. Also installed drain tile at the footer of a crawl space on the outside to stop my basement from flooding. Again this was attached to a pipe to carry the water away from the house. Had to remove some concrete sidewalk and step to dig part of the trench. Lined the house with rubber as part of the waterproofing and lined the trench they dug with a filter material. They then filled the trench in with gravel and poured a new concrete patio and step in place of the concrete they removed. They also filled in the trenches in the yard and then put down grass seed.

Overall, they did a very good job cleaning up. The holes in the basement floor were filled in with cement and the dry wall opening wasn't as bad as it could have been. They kept everything contained so the dust wouldn't go throughout the house. I covered everything and with their containment of the areas of drilling, the cleanup wasn't so bad. They were done in 2 days. The men were very nice and courteous.
Description of Work: After severe thunderstorms, my basement would get water coming in on the west front wall. Crain Contracting first redirected one of the front downspouts and sump pump from emptying out in flowering hedges close to the house. They dug under the walkway and extended the downspounts/sump pump under ground and out into the yard, but also in a way not to obstruct grass cutting. It pops up like a flat top to expel water. On both sides of the front door dirt was added around and under flowering bushes/hedges. A heavy duty rubber mat was placed close to the foundation and on top of the added dirt; topped with more mulch to keep water away from the house. Where there was sod, it was removed, more dirt added and then replaced. This was done also to make sure water was kept away from the house. A crack was found on the outside of the foundation and sealed. In the basement, 3 holes in the concrete floor (of the west wall) were drilled to inspect the soil and the perimeter tiles in the basement floor leading to the sump pump. Some dry wall was removed (only about 12 inches wide) from the ceiling straight down to the floor (above baseboard) to seal the crack in the foundation. The sump pump had to be cleaned out from all the debris left by the builders and to ensure water from the perimeter tiles could empty into it properly. Which is what the builder should have done.

Bob Crane responded quickly to my call, was punctual and professional. He spent a lot of time working on estimates and surveying our property which has multiple drainage issues. He returned our estimate quickly. The pricing was mid-range of all the estimates we received. He gave plenty of references from 6 years ago to recently which were all excellent. If any minor delays occurred, we were called immediately. Once the work started, they sealed off the areas they were working with plastic sheeting to protect the contents of our basement. The work was done in several days, all construction material removed and the area cleaned up. All we needed to do was clean the floor. We received instructions on maintenance of the sump and the pop up drains, warranty information. The filled in all areas outside and seeded where there is grass.
Description of Work: Installed drainage system inside perimeter of basement, sump pump, external drain for sump plus buried gutter downspouts and installed pop-up drains. They also removed some concrete pathways that were making the drainage problem worse and filled with clean dirt.
John Crain, the owner, personally walked us through the whole process, from bid to finish, including daily phone updates if we didn't cross paths on the site. Honestly, their bid and amount of work seemed to good to be true, but after checking with Angie's List, the BBB, several state and local offices and references, everything checked out him. John simply seems to be from a different era in that he was always completely honest and did everything he said he would, plus more. The total amount did go over bid, but only because things went so well on the site, he offered a few other touches for very reasonable amounts such as adding new topsoil, laying landscaping plastic, and installing decorative rock. Furthermore, John left everything surplus on the site that we asked for if they didn't use it (topsoil, rock, etc.). With my experience, I'd highly recommend Crain over any others. We had six other bids and Crain did twice as much work for half as much money (bids from $5,000-$25,000).
Description of Work: We had a rear basement/foundation wall that had moved in toward the office several inches due to pressure from the soil/yard on the outside. The solution was to excavate the part of the backyard around the foundation. Three concrete piers were installed and buried in the backyard. Once the wall was exposed, nine anchor points were drilled in, which connected to steel rod. The wall was pulled back into place (plumb) and all of the anchor points were connected to the concrete piers. The wall was tarred from the outside and and exterior drainage system was installed at the footing. All cracks on the inside were injected with epoxy. The excavation was re-filled with rock for proper drainage. Furthermore, Crain removed our 16'x14' deck and poured a concrete patio of the same size in its place. They also removed/replaced part of our fence to finish the job. Finally, Crain re-graded our lot, extended the downspouts around the house and laid seed and straw to replace all of the grass/growth.
