From initial contact until someone came out to view what needed to be done, took almost a full week. After they were out, it took almost another full week to finally get an estimate. Even though the representative was given a written list of what I wanted done (the same as the other vendors) the estimate only contained 2 line items. An email was sent asking if the list was included in the estimate was never answered. Dropped this vendor from consideration as being totally unresponsive to customers needs/requests

Had to take out three failing spruce trees, and all the shrubbery (most of it sick) on the front of the house, plus remove all remnants/stumps/root balls. They did an excellent and efficient job, and a thorough cleanup/removal of the very considerable debris. Price was not the lowest quote, but the level of cleanup done vs. the lowest quote was valuable and fully worth the difference. Only criticism is that we could have used a little better communication on when the stump-grinding crew was coming, though it all worked out. Otherwise, they did a great job on what would have been an utterly overwhelming task to undertake on our own. Well done.

Expert service and results. I have them come twice a year to trim all shrubbery, edge and mulch all flower beds. The lawn was wet when they first arrived and suggested they come back in a day or two so they would not put ruts in my yard with the wheel barrow. Very courteous crew and awesome clean up when the job was done. I pay a premium for thus service, the crew work their butts off and I have a great looking yard. Thanks to Tony and Allen’s!

I have an annual contract with Allen's and they are very fair in pricing and deliver a good product. I have had nothing but good customer service with them for the past several years. Last summer when one of their dropper machines broke I ended up with a dead spot. Less than 48 hours later a supervisor came to inspect the damage and offered to resod or spread more seed for no additional cost. I am very happy with the service and plan to use them for years to come.

They haven't done any work yet but we're in line it's whenever they get an opening they can come out. They already gave us an estimate, so they're just waiting on their day when they can fit us in. It was a free estimate. The overall experience was perfect they were very knowledgeable. I can't say if we would use them again because we haven't got the work done. The estimate worked out great.

They ruined my lawn. I sent several letters to the owner and I don't know how they are trimming trees but they shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a lawn. They were charging about $50-something a visit and there were like 7 visits per year.
Description of Work: Allen's Tree Service did a scheduled lawn service and they supposedly treated Nutsedge and they either used the wrong chemical or the wrong concentration, and they killed just about every blade of grass in my yard except the Nutsedge. It grew really well. I also used them to treat a Lindenwood tree for Japanese beetles. They didn't get out here to treat the tree until well the end of July and by that time, the beetles have eaten half the leaves on the tree.

It went well. Wind blew the tree a little and they had to come back out to tie it and straighten it. (it is still a little crooked). This year, I had another tree die and had them come back out for an estimate. They wanted $1100 this time - so I went with someone else that was $400 cheaper (Tree Away Tree Service) and they did a terrible job. I should have just had Allen's do it.

Not good. I agreed to pay Allens Tree to cut down and cut up several trees into 5 foot sections but after 5 months I still have a large brush pile and many half cut trees. The owner/principals are obnoxious and quite belligerent. It's obvious they couldn't care less about the customer. Never again.

The guy who came out to my house to provide the initial estimate was professional and informative. I signed the contract that day because it was a fair price. It ended up taking 4X longer to get the trees taken down than originally discussed. I understand that things happen, I just wanted to be kept up to date on the status. Every time I called the office for a status, I was yelled at and spoken to in an extremely rude way. A couple of times I was even hung up on! I have never experienced such terrible customer service. It doesn't matter what complications have occurred, the customer should always be treated with respect.

Called them about tree transplanting. The lady who answered was very rude. I asked if they could transplant trees, and she asked about the diameter. I didn't have any measuring devices with me, so I told her that I didn't know. She asked the same question, so I went outside to look at the trees. I said the trees were overgrown and I couldn't get near to measure them. She then asked me the same question in a much LOUDER volume, asking about what the tree's diameter was. I said that it looked like it was more than two inches, and then she says rudely and LOUDLY that trees should be transplanted during the fall and that Allen's Tree Service couldn't help me. The only good part was that she referred me to another company who could. I called the other company, and the lady who answered was much more respecful. They still couldn't help me.

Kevin met with me on 4/14/15 to look at the trees in our yard, diagnose & give us an estimate. He petted my dog and assured me, when I asked specifically about the dangers of the pesticides, that they would not harm our pets. I emailed the contract back to Allen's on 5/6/15. When I had not received a response, I called them back after about 10 days/2 weeks. The office staff told me that the treatment would be done in June. When I asked if they were so busy that they were scheduling that far in advance, I was told that they planned to do the treatment when it would be most effective. I asked which day they would be coming, and was told that they couldn't confirm a date in advance due to weather changes, but would contact me a day or two in advance. Today, 6/10/15, I was cleaning up email (I don't use it often) and discovered that on 6/4/15, Allen's emailed me an invoice for service to the ash tree done on 6/3/15. I was shocked, and a few things suddenly clicked into place. For the past week, my dog has not wanted to go outside, and when she does go out, she doesn't want to go near that tree. We refer to that tree as "her" tree, because she had the habit of sitting or lying beneath it next to her water bowl. We have a run set up between that tree & another further down in the yard, but she has always enjoyed hanging out beneath that ash tree, which is just off of our back deck. When on her run, she stays as far away from that tree as she can, and she's been a bit lethargic, and has a red patch on her leg that she's been chewing on... but we haven't been able to see any reason for the irritation. So, I called Allen's to find out if they really did come out & do the treatment without contacting us; Stacy confirmed that they did. She said there was no note on the contract to contact us in advance, and no note about us having a dog. She said those are things normally put on the contract. I asked to speak to a manager because I was livid. I was told that she could have Kevin call me back in the morning. WHAT? I asked if that was seriously the way they handled a customer who was very upset, and asked if there was any supervisor available. She put me on hold several times, and came back each time without putting me through to a supervisor or providing a supervisor's name. Each time, she said she'd have Kevin call me tomorrow. I told her this was unacceptable, and asked to speak with the owner of the company or the company president. I was told the owner wasn't in, but that she could have him call me back next time he came into the office. I was floored. I again insisted on speaking with someone in authority and was finally put through to Christina, who identified herself as the office manager . Christina had nothing else to offer. She even had the nerve to tell me that I should have written on the contract that I wanted to be contacted before the service was performed and that I had a dog, because it was not their normal policy to contact the customer in advance of service. I asked her how I was supposed to know that those things needed to be written on the contract, and I told her that Kevin met and petted my dog while he was here, and that he made no mention of needing to write that on the contract. I told her that it was an office staff member who told me I would be contacted before the service was performed, AFTER I sent in my contract. So at the least, Kevin and the office staff member to whom I spoke after sending in my contract both failed to document on the contract my request to be contacted and information about my pets. I asked to know what kind of chemicals were used, but Christina didn't know... all she could say was that she would have Kevin call me back in the morning. I asked why he couldn't talk with me today, and she said 'because he's out in the field doing estimates." So at this point, I am furious. The lack of communication from them during the contract process should have tipped me off. I'll admit it raised red flags for me that I should not have ignored. But that does not excuse the facts: they failed to document important information on the contract about the services I was requesting. As a result, they came out to my property and dumped pesticides on the ground without any warning, without any notice or note left on my door, without any communication whatsoever. Now, I have serious concerns about my dog's health. But I cannot even call the vet to check whether or not the pesticides used could be causing my pet's distress, because it's apparently too much of an inconvenience for them to communicate with their customers or to document the contracts appropriately so that their customers are aware of exactly what they are doing and when. It's plain that Allen's Tree Service does not value communication, due diligence, the well-being of pets, or their customers' concerns. I am stuck waiting until tomorrow to receive a call back. I can only hope to receive accurate information about what was used so that I can contact my veterinarian. Their lack of concern is disturbing, and we will be cancelling an additional contract we placed with them for service to a different tree at a different time.

Overall, my wife and I are very satisfied with the design and the quality of the work. Tony was our designer and was extremely knowledgeable and informative. And while he definitely had strong opinions about what would look best in our space, he was more than willing to take into account our wishes. In the end, we used a scaled back design from Tony's original plan. During the installation, we requested several small to medium modifications and Tony and the crew were very accommodating. Making the requesting changes without any additional cost. They completed the work in only a few days, as promised. The end product looks terrific and the price was very reasonable for the amount and quality of work performed. I would definitely use Allen's again.

On September 25th, 2014 Allen's Tree Service sent Kevin to provide an estimate for the following services: trimming of one oak tree, and the hauling away of brush and wood from that tree. The experience I received from Kevin was great, he was polite, informative and reasonable, I chose Allen's Tree Service for the work to be completed based on my experience with him and signed the acceptance of proposal on October 2nd, 2014. On the 25th of September, Kevin verbally communicated to me that the scope of work would be completed within 8-12 weeks from the date of the proposal being signed. Reasons for the 8-12 week time frame was the result of two factors; the first was that Allen's Tree Service was already several weeks behind, and secondly Ameren had to drop the power lines connected to my home in order to safely perform the work. More Importantly, Kevin verbally communicated and assured me that the scope of work would be completed before December 25th, 2014; which puts the scope of work to be completed within a time frame of 12 weeks. After two weeks from the date Kevin verbally communicated the scope of work was to be completed by, and as a result of not receiving one phone call, email or text message through out the entire process; I determined the verbal agreement established when signing the agreement with Allen's Tree Service to be void. Subsequently, I signed another agreement with another company to perform the scope of work I had initially agreed upon with Allen's Tree Service. Here's where things get out of hand and escalate, ironically I received a phone call from Allen's Tree Service one day after I had scheduled a date for work to begin with Omni Tree Service. The secretary from Allen's Tree Service called to confirm the date of January 28th, 2015 for work to begin. I informed the secretary that her phone call was the first time I had heard from them regarding the scope of work that was to be completed by December 25th, 2014; and as a result of work not being completed by the date I was given by Kevin, and not receiving a phone call, email, text message, or any other form of communication I elected the services of another company. The secretary's response to my grievance was, and I quote "so you're telling me your canceling?" I assume this response was for confirmation in regards to sending me an invoice with a cancellation charge of ($125.00) After receiving the invoice with the cancellation charge I contacted Allen's Tree Service and spoke with the secretary with the intent of explaining the reasons for why I elected the services of another company, hoping they would dismiss the cancellation charge as a result of realizing their mistake resulting from a poorly managed company. The secretary argued they were running behind the initial date given for work to be completed by December 25th, 2014 for many reasons. Additionally, she stated that someone in the scheduling department contacted me in the middle of December informing me they were running behind, and scheduled the next available date of January 28th, 2015. If what the secretary said was true I would not have elected the services of another company. In my phone conversation with the secretary from Allen's Tree Service, she was impolite, inconsiderate and overall just bad mannered. Overall, my experience with Allen's Tree Service has been disappointing and stressful to say the least.

Response from Allen's Tree Service Inc
I would first state that the customer called on 9/25/14 and the estimate was given to him to deadwood and prune his oak tree off the house on 10/2/14. He was advised that the schedule for the crew to perform the services was running out about 8-12 weeks. Which would have put his work order to be scheduled at or around the first of December to the first of January 2015, with the exception of rain, precipitation, extreme cold weather, windy days, etc. The reason for this is because we work outdoors and depending on what kind of weather we have, it can put us behind or ahead. October through February are very uncertain times because of rain, winds, colder freezing temps etc. With our field of work we cannot specifically schedule a job each day because we depend on weather. If we do this and miss a day due to bad weather; we then have to call every customer and push them back however many days we just missed. This would be very time consuming and upset many people. The crew that our estimator felt needed to do the work had been scheduled out for months at the time when the contract was signed, and the customer was given notice of that and still agreed to the contract; which was signed while Kevin was there on 10/2/14, and was entered into our system on 10/3/14. Kevin did not and cannot make a customer a “promise” that the work will be done by a certain date due to the above reasons, therefore Kevin could not have assured him that it would be done by Christmas; he can only give the time frame with the above exception kept in mind. There was a delay in that time frame due to weather as mentioned before, but we also experienced a higher than usual illness rate within our tree crews; being that they work closely together and use some of the same tools. The customer states there was no communication. The scheduling dept. spoke to him in mid-December. They informed him that they were a little behind with wet weather, a few very cold days and windy days that the crew chose not to climb trees on those days and sickness within the tree crews. She told him that she would contact AmerenUE to get the wire drop scheduled and get back to him with a date. When we call Ameren, we inform them of the work and the zip code that the customer resides. Depending on where that is, they tell us, when they can drop the line in order for the services, which we have no control of at all. After calling AmerenUE to set up a date; the scheduling dept. called Mr. Gray on 1/15/15 and informed him, Ameren given us a date of 1/28/15 for a wire drop in order to complete the pruning work. He told her that he decided to go with another company and they were to do the work on 1/29/15, the day after which we had already scheduled it. She talked to him and explained the situation and he still decided upon his own accord to cancel our contract. The customer states that after two weeks the Christmas date, he considered the contract to be void. Nowhere on our contract or policy does it state if the job is not completed by xxx date, the contract will be voided. He just assumed that. When a customer signs a contract, we count on that work to keep our crews busy all year round. We count on that work, and by signing a contract, means that the customer agrees to have the services performed. By his signature on the contract, it states that he agreed to all of our terms on our contract, which our contracts are outlined with all of our company’s policies, such as our cancellation charges. After he told the scheduling dept. he was indeed cancelling the work order, yes we sent him an invoice for the cancellation charge. His comments about our secretary being “impolite, inconsiderate, and over all just bad mannered”, is incorrect and should be treated as hearsay. We have 4 secretaries in our office; so we know who spoke with him, and know she was not any of those things during their brief conversation. We take pride in our overall customer service and their satisfaction.
