ENGLISH SWEEP

I had used English Sweep chimney sweep and repair company last October for a thorough inspection and cleaning of my wood burning fireplace. I have been considering converting my fireplace to gas for many years. I was very happy with the service and results that I got from English Sweep last year and so I decided to call them again this year for an estimate on converting the fireplace to gas. Joe was once again prompt, very courteous and extremely thorough. Not only did he examine my fireplace and take measurements to provide me with a proposal on converting the fireplace to gas, he also inspected my fireplace to make sure that it is clean and safe for burning the wood that I have left before the conversion should I decide to do so. I am very pleased with the services that English Sweep provides. I always want to make sure that my fireplace/chimney is safe to use before cold weather sets in. I now feel 100% confident that it is safe to use this season after having Joe inspect it once again. And, I am looking forward to converting the fireplace to gas and I would not choose anyone other than English Sweep to do the job.

I had not had my fireplace/chimney inspected or cleaned for a couple of years. I found English Sweep on Angie's list and decided to give them a try. I was very pleased and satisfied with the service. Joe was prompt, friendly, very informative and thorough. I have scheduled an appointment for this year as since I felt so confident in the cleaning job that Joe did, I burned many fires in the fireplace last season and I know that it needs to be cleaned again. A dirty fireplace is nothing to take lightly and I feel secure in putting my confidence in English Sweep to keep my fireplace/chimney clean.

We just recently moved to the St. Louis area and bought our home. Upon moving in we realized our chimney reeked of smoke, especially when the AC unit was running. English Sweep came to our house to inspect and clean our fireplace and chimney. Joe was very professional and patient as I asked him many questions. He cleaned our chimney and as he inspected it showed me the problems our chimney had with our liner. He cleaned up after himself and left the room as he found it. We are also having problems with negative air flow in our house because of newly installed doors and windows, so before he left he gave us an estimate to fix our chimney liner and installation of a Plus Aire system to fix the negative air flow. I have nothing but good things to say about English Sweep and Joe and will definitely use them in the future.

He was very good and the price was competitive. It was not cheap, but it is a really substantial cover. It is huge and nothing gets in there.

On-site inspection was scheduled two weeks after initial contact, as they are very busy. When the Company representative arrived, he was very polite and professional. He said he would be sending us an email estimate. He gave a verbal indication of the cost of the work. One week later, an email finally arrived which was eight times the verbal representation. It is possible however that I misunderstood the verbal comments that were made. The quotation also included several items that were not discussed during the inspection visit and did not include the potential for molding repair in the scope of work. An email was sent back to the company asking for an itemization of the work and asked if they were going to address the window molding repair. A day later an email was received saying there was a mix up at their office and that they would be in contact with me. A couple of days later, I got a call from the representative that did the on-site inspection. I told him I would like to see a break out of the costs and that the cost of much higher than I expected. This is when he informed me that I may have misunderstood his comments on the cost. During this conversation, the representative noted that apparently, the first quotation received did not include all of the charges, but, "we would honor the quotation anyway". He said they would send me an updated quote with itemization on it. I got the updated quote, which did not break out the costs as I requested (I wanted to see the cost of the items they added), but it did add another $645 for items they did not include in the original quote, despite the verbal statement that they would go with their original quote. I called the Company and was assured that, while this sounded like the classic "bait-and-switch", if I really wanted a good professional job, it was worth it. During this final conversation, it came out that the actual cost was still to be determined since they did not really know how they were going to approach the molding repair, even though the updated quote put that repair into the scope of work and within the cost of the quote. The Company representative admitted that the cost of this word was unknown. I would ask a lot of questions when getting a quotation and include a "not to exceed" clause as protection against add-ons.

It was ok. It was not an easy process. They came when they said they would. They were clean and did not make a mess. They were very polite and professional.

They were competitively priced, showed up on time, and were clean. I was satisfied with their work and have since referred them to friends.

English Sweep did a great job on installing a flue liner on a 3-story house and worked with us on a ever changing closing date without complaints. They were very easy to work with, great communications and overall very helpful. Highly recommend English Sweep!

Everything that could possibly go wrong did but these guys just worked through the problem and got the job done, on time and on budget.

Russ was very through and very knowledgeable.The whole process exceeded our expectations. We will be using them to perform some additional work needed as well.

Overall great work once they did the job on Aug 15th. It took several trips, many reschedules ( three months), and finally less than three hours to do the job. Thoroughly cleaned up after the job.

Awesome job! Russ was very detailed. He educated me about not only my fireplace but my ash chutes and fire safety. I scheduled the day before and he was on time the next afternoon. I would highly recommend English Sweep.

The service went well. Scheduling the appointment was great. They were able to schedule somebody to be there at exactly the time I needed. I also like that they call you right before they get to your house so you are not wondering when they may arrive. My chimney sweep's name was Matt. He was really nice and answered all my questions about the chimney and identified some potential trouble areas that may need to be addressed in the future. He also suggested some solutions I can do on my own to try to save some money. Overall great experience. I will have English Sweep back out when I need my chimney swept again.

The technician arrived about 30 minutes later than promised, but went right to work and clearly explained what he did, why, and any other information he thought pertinent. I am pleased with the work, but am disappointed that he was late and did not call beforehand to alert me.

Fantastic! Called to set up appointment on Wednesday, Russ came out on Thursday. We have been having a problem with smoke in the downstairs fireplace which is wood. He explained why & suggested we don't use the gas fireplace on the main level & the wood burning fireplace at the same time because our house is so tight. Cleaned out the duct for the fireplace got up on the roof & checked to make sure the chimney was ok. He found no structural problems. Was very neat, professional & courteous. Would definitely use them again.

The serviceman from English Sweep called to see if it was convenient to come early as he was close by but we weren't quite ready for him it being the day after Christmas. When I said no it was no problem for him to arrive at the scheduled time of 8am. He was very courteous and conscientious about not making a mess covering the whole area with a drop cloth for him and his equipment. He showed me with his camera that tbe chimney was clean and that he didn't recommend a sweep. He did point out that we were missing mortar in some areas and recommended a service they provide to have the chimney resurfaced. He left us with a written bid for the service good for a year. We received $10 off due to being an angie's list member and a good impression of the company and their ability to do the future work. I will definitely use English Sweep when we decide to have the chimney resurfaced.

I was very pleased. I had a very polite courteous person who was honest and professional. He explained everything he was doing and showed me the results especially photos of the liner. He was very tidy with everything. I especially appreciated his patience with my questions. I would hire English Sweep again.
