They showed up as promised and made return trips until everything was accomplished. They were courteous, efficient and professional. I would use them again.

I have a house that was built in the 20's that has a small wood burning chimney. The previous owners had installed a flue liner themselves that consisted of a dryer vent hose. I wanted to get a new liner professionally installed, however the individuals who came out recommended that we install a gas or pellet stove. I am still considering what I want to do with the fireplace and have not had any work done yet.

Chimney problem identified with video inspection. Promised an estimate to repair. Will reschedule the dryer vent cleaning.

The English Sweep professional did an amazing job and did not leave any mess at all. He was very polite and respectful in my house. He also explained the do's and don't for a first time wood-burning fireplace user. The information was invaluable. He answered every single "stupid" question I had and was happy to explain everything to me. He inspected the chimney from the roof and used a camera to find any potential issues.

Appointments had to be rearranged at my request and they were more than cooperative.

I had a feeling that they were fishing for an additional engagement - I will get a second opinion.

Quick and well done. Cleaned up after himself. Inspected and suggested further appropriate repairs needed to outter structure which had been leaking.

Russ arrived on time . Looked at all three fireplaces and decided that only one needed to be cleaned. He showed me some minor cracks in fireplace but said not to worry about them. He was very neat. Appreciated his honesty about not feeling all fireplaces needed to be cleaned. Will use thm again.

Called English Sweep to make an appointment to have my chimneys cleaned. They were very professional on the phone and explained to me, that this is their busy season and they were running around 8 days to get an appointment. They worked with me to set my time because I work and we set the appointment and since I told them I found them on Angie's list, they would give me $10 off. They told me Matt was going to be coming to my home and he was going to clean the 2 chimneys. Matt was on time and very professional. He placed drop cloths on the floor. Was very careful not to bump into any furniture with his equipment. Cleaned both fireplaces. I explained to him, that after a fire was built in the fireplace in the family room , the room smelled like a campfire. After the cleaning he took pictures of my Chimney and showed me how the chute was pulling away from the wall and the metal around the inside of the box was loose. He stated that I would need a new chute and metal for the box. All this made sense to me due to what I explained to him. He said he would E-mail me bids with options and showroom. He cleaned up after himself. I paid the bill and on the receipt it stated that they would E-mail me with the bids and options and showroom. I have not heard back from them since. I am very disappointed. Now I have to look for someone else to do the work.

It went very well. The tech was courteous and on time. He made sure to protect floors and furniture while cleaning the chimney and cleaned up afterward.

I felt English Sweep (Russ) did a great job. He was prompt to the scheduled appt time. Upon arrival, Russ explained what he was going to do and when done, explained his findings in detail. We have some damage to our back refractory wall. Russ, of course, offered his bid for resolution but was also kind enough to show me how easily we could replace ourselves and where to order the part for a fraction of the cost. We have opted to replace it ourselves in this case and eliminate the labor cost. While English Sweep may not get our repair business this time, they will get all of our future sweep business and (if necessary) any repair work that we're unable to do ourselves. It is because of his honesty and approach to our particular case that I would not hesitate to call them myself and/or refer them to anyone else needing similar service.

Matt, called before arriving and was on time with his arrival estimate. He covered his work area with a tarp and ensured their was no dust or ash residue anywhere in our family room when he was finished. He was quick and efficient and very thorough in showing us pictures of the outside of our chimney. Our home is just under 40 years old and has never had any outside chimney work that we know of. He was able to show us where the weather had begun eroding some of the bricks and forcing the flashing to pull away from the chimney. So glad we used English Sweep.

Very professional. Showed up on time. Was unable to actually clean the chimney as it was in such bad shape that the fireplace is now inoperable. Gave me a bid to convert to a gas fireplace as well as fix the brick on the chimney.

They do excellent work. I would definitely recommend them to anybody. They are very versatile.

Russ called first then within the time he stated he was at my front door. He checked the chimney out and was most efficient in cleaning the chimney from the roof first and then inside the hearth. I had cleaned out the area in front of the fireplace but noted I had not cleaned out the fireplace I was half done when Russ came. He said he though he could work with it and thankfully finished off the cinders (which I was struggling with). He was able to tell me what kind of unit I had--and kept the dust to a very minimum. I know now not only what kind of wood to burn but how to keep the furnace clean. The chimney did indeed need to be cleaned as there was quite a bit of creosote towards the top. Fortunately there were no issues with the structure of the chimney itself. Russ pretty much was covered in soot but was careful not to get any on the floor or furniture and was courteous enough to clean up before submitting a bill. I overall was very please with the service and even more so that my cowboy husband is not messing with the cleaning. It also will save my ears. Life if good. Will look for coupon to have done again next year!

Joe, the installer was on site from 1 pm to 2:30 p on June 6, 2012, but had to make a trip into his shop to pick up a 3 inch flex vent pipe becasue he only brought a 4 inch flex vent pipe. The shop trip too 15-20 minutes, so the service time was only about 1 hour and 15 minutes. It took about 1 hour and 10 minutes to do the vent work and 5 minutes to install the fireplace damper clamp. I would estimate the cost of material (flex pipe, plastic vent cover, damper clamp) to be about $50 which would have put the labor at $320. When Joe presented me the bill, I asked if there could be some reduction because the service call was less than half of the estimate. I also indicated I and my daughter would be recurring customers as we have been in the past. Joe called Gregg Boss the owner and he authorized a 10% $37 discount. I paid the bill but indicated to Joe that I still thought the price was too high. Joe's service was very good and previously both myself and daughter have been satisfied with English Sweep's service. On June 7,2012, I wrote Gregg Boss an email and asked for some further consideration for a reduction in price feeling that $283 for 1 hour and 15 minutes of service was too high. Gregg was prompt with a response indicating he felt his fees were the best he can provide and he was proud of the service and his team. He did offer a $20 discount toward any additional services in 2012 for myself and my daughter. I was very satisfied with the service, the installer and appreciative of the service assessment that Gregg provided. However, the price of the service is clearly too high and even with the 10% discount and the incentive to continue to do businesses with English Sweep. I need to have confidence in an estimate for future services that may be somewhat unique without having to worry that I am not being overcharged. I

They came on the date promised, informed me of what I needed to do & finished as promised. they did an excellent job.

The floor was covered with tarp and there was no dust from the cleaning. We use the fireplace all winter and I am sure we have a lot of buildup. The work was done on time and there was nothing to cleanup after. Very nice person doing the work.

Last year we needed quite a bit of work done to our fireplace and chimney. Based on the high ratings we read here, we called for a cleaning and inspection. Ultimately we hired them and they did fantastic job getting us ready for the winter. They provide a 20 year warranty on the resurfacing they did on our flue and to stay within that warranty, they need to clean and inspect every year (warranty or not, it's a smart thing to do). They sent a reminder postcard yesterday and I called immediately and they got us on the schedule for today. Russ, who had previously worked on our fireplace was assigned to us again and he was able to show up early (they've NEVER shown up late). He's always polite, professional and thorough. At the end he went on the roof to inspect the chimney and cap, which was perfect. The whole job took about 30 minutes and we're all set for this winter. Always a pleasure to do business with!

Mike and his crew arrived on schedule and completed the job in about 2 days. They explained the installation in retail and answered all of my question. They worked carefully and left the living room dust free.

Approximately two weeks later, they returned to perform the work. The price was as originally quoted. They cleaned up throughly after the fact and it took approximately 1 hour.

The man came out quickly and on time. He performed the job cleanly. He informed me that there was a crack in the fireplace and it needed to be sealed. He did that for an additional $35.

Chimney was cleaned and the service person immediately stated that we needed $2000.00 in repair work, a new chimney liner. He said they would have to chisel through the outside of the brickwork on my chimney exterior to install the liner. This sounded extreme to me so I got a second opinion from another company. The second company said I needed no such liner and the integrity of my chimeny was in tact. Also, English Sweep said they would email me videos of the chimney that they took and I never received them. I asked for them twice and never got them! Also, the second company pulled all kinds of soot and debris from behind the damper, and showed me where English Sweep missed much of the creosote scale on the tiles. I never received any of what I paid $185.00 for. Problem is, I wouldn't want them back in my house to make it right, because I do not trust them. I'm very disappointed with Angie's List and got much better advice from a store that sells and services fireplaces. rwj 02/10/2012

On 12/8/2011 we had English Sweep out to a**** the state of our fireplace. We were told we needed a new liner and they wanted a check for $250 which we gave them. They would come out later to do the install. After thinking about our options we decided to have the buck stove removed so we could covert our fireplace back to a standard wood burning fireplace. The removal of the buck stove went sucessfully and we were told we no longer needed a new liner. We were told the damper was gone and they would have to go back to the office to get ideas on how to repair this and also price out the damper install, glass and screen install. In the mean time they recommended we stuff a pillow up the chimney. We were left with a usuable but empty fireplace that constantly drafts air through it.We were contacted twice about nonpayment and reiminded the caller we wrote a check for $250. After the second call I believe they figured out their accounting innacuracies. We requested an update into the progress of a quote/solution for our missing damper, screen and glass and was told both times they would get back to us. It is now February and we have yet to hear back from them. In February the owner came out to look at what was needed to complete the job and had a bid to us within a day. We delays acceptance of the quote and eventually called them back to accept. Parts were ordered and the install was scheduled. 3/21/12 the install was completed in a professional manner. I was very happy with the service and end results.

Called in advance of arrival, was a few minutes early. Explained work well, got right to work. I was completely satisfied.
