It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It turned out fine. He was prompt. I didn't use him for the whole 3 hours. He was very good. The price was very reasonable.
Description of Work: I used M & M Contracting to do some small handyman stuff. He covered up a crawlspace opening and put some slats on a fence.

Let me preface this by saying that I wasn't home at the time of service so my husband worked with the handyman. However, when I got home I found that only one of the issues was actually fixed and it was kind of a substandard job (a random piece of wood was glued over the top of the hole). Only one small portion of the patio gap was filled in with concrete and it looked pretty awful. The guy said that he couldnt' do it but the company who installed the patio door thought that the gap could be easily filled. In any case, a little bit of problem-solving and professional application would have gone a long way here. Either way, 3 hours to fill in 2 holes - one with wood and one with concrete seemed excessive as well.
Description of Work: Fixed some holes in the exterior and gap between the concrete porch and house.

It was not a good experience. I purchased two coupons for my two houses and he was not happy about it. So I had him for arguably six hours because he said he didn't want to break up the hours and didn't want to do two hours at one place and four hours at another. I only got four hours of work instead of six hours. I also had to pay extra for the supply lines.

provider did an excellent job repairing cracks, but painted only part of the wall as he did not bring proper ladder(s) He also failed to to bring proper vacuum to clean up. He did not communicate properly re the job and what I would need to have on hand re the job. He appeared to be rushing to finish so he could maximize his payment versus the amount of timespent on the job. This is the first "deal" I got from offers on A's List where the entity or workman seemed to want to take shortcuts re work as he was being paid but a fraction of the actual amt that would be due but for the deal. It seems to me that if I were accepting 1/2 of what I would normally receive that I would still give full and unbridled effort so that I might be hired again or be reccommended to neighbors.

He arrived on time and ready to get started. He quickly identified that the contractor who did the original work had used the wrong size plumbing parts and type of drain. He gave me the information I needed to get the correct drain for that type of sink. He had the other parts that were needed. While I was gone (about 30 minutes), he kept busy with the other bath faucet. We had about 45 minutes work time left on the deal, so I asked him to see why several outlets had shorted out and repair them. Unfortunately, the problem was improper type of wire and he could not repair them unless I allowed him to re-wire the entire section, but it was great that he let me know what needed to be done to make this right. He was a very pleasant and easy to talk to. I would like to have him return when I am ready to do more handyman repairs.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and it was okay, but we were a little disappointed in the handyman. It did not seem like he really wanted to get into the projects that we spoke about on the telephone. When we talked on the phone he led me to believe that he could take care of all of the very small projects we discussed, but when he got here he told me he could not do some of the jobs. He told me he could not work on doorbells, which is one we had discussed. He also did not fix one of our kitchen drawers that had come off of its railing. He kind of repositioned one of the railings, but did not fix it. He kind of him hawed about ways he could fix it, but said he did not know if he could fix it better than it was now. We also had him put in a security light and he was fast to do it. This was fine, except he did not really show us how to work it. He also did not fix a pole that he was supposed to put up so my daughter ended up fixing herself. He left about an hour before the amount of time we had paid for. I got the feeling that this was a gap job he was using to fill in between other jobs and did not want to come back again. He was friendly enough, but he sort of had a lackadaisical attitude the whole time. I did not feel like what he did was worth the money, but he was responsive.

My first appointment with Mike was for a previous day in which I left work early to meet him and he did not call or show up. When I called him he did apologize and said he was in another job and couldn't make it. I asked why he couldn't at least call me to let me know... Anyways I could not miss more work and my wife met with him for the repairs. He supposedly fixed the leak and there was a hole in roof for garage as he said that's about what he could complete in 3 hours. My wife said he left after 2 hours and instead on honoring our deal he advertises on Angies List for 3 hours for $132 he charged my $60 per hour for 2 hours a total of $120. I then hired another handyman who gave me a much more reasonable estimate on the job and he was starting on the roof repair and noticed that the leak was not just from the pipes but he noticed it was leaking next to the toilet as it was not sealed correctly to the tile when Mike worked on it. The handyman fixed it for me and saved me the nightmare or the leaks would of caused the roof to be damaged again.
Description of Work: Mike was hired for 3 hour special to do as much as possible regarding 3 jobs I had which included a leak from bathroom and drywall repair on roof leak came from. Mike informed me that in 3 hours he would only have enough time to get leak fixed and cut hole in garage roof where leak was coming down.

During a recent rainstorm we noticed some water trickling from a wall in our garage. Further inspection showed that the siding on the exterior wall had rotted at the point of a downspout, allowing water into the garage. We called a couple of siding companies, but found that none of them do siding repairs, only full-blown replacements. So we checked Angie's List and called M&M. Mike was able to come out and estimate the job within a few days. We had to schedule the job about a month out, which wasn't surprising given it's the busiest time of the year for outdoor work. The job itself went very smoothly. Mike and a co-worker arrived right on time in the morning and had it knocked out by early afternoon.

They suck. I ended up asking for a refund, because the handyman called me up and asked me if it was dirty and if there were cobwebs and I said yes and he said that I would need to find somebody else. He refused to come out and do the work. I told him what the job was. I had applied for a VA loan and one of the things that I had to have to get the loan was a vapor space, which is laying down plastic over the dirt in my crawl space. I ended up hiring a guy in my neighborhood, who did it for half the price of what this guy wanted. I would not use them again.

I performed no work for this gentleman. The reason I would not do the work was because this is not the type of work I do. He should have called me before he purchased the deal to make sure I could do the work. The dirt & cob webs had nothing to do with weather or not I would do the work.

Mike was a pleasure to work with. Arrived on time and performed the necessary work in an efficient and professional manner. I had purchased the three-hour certificate from Angie's List and this work took most of the time. In addition, he advised me on how to accomplish some other projects. I would definitely use his service again.
Description of Work: Removed a broken window air conditioner and broken storm window. Brought in a new unit and installed it.
Mike came and removed the existing tile floor. He came during the day when we were at work and left before we got home from work. During the day our roommate, Eric was home and Mike enlisted his help throughout the process multiple times rather than bringing his own paid help to do things that required more than one hand. While it was nice of my roommate to help, it is not really acceptable to be paid to do a job then ask for labor help from your client without offering any sort of compensation or reduction to labor. After laying the tile floor, when I came home I went in to look at the work that had been done. It was never communicated to us by Mike that we were not to walk on the tile and it was evident prior to doing so that there were no spacers used when the tile was put down because the spacing between the tiles was very uneven all over the floor. We have never had any sort of tile work done and the tile appeared to have been adhered solidly to the floor, so we would not have had any idea that we were not supposed to walk on them. We mentioned this to Mike and asked him to reset the tiles and he said that the tiles had slid due to us walking on them. He did come back and reset some of the tiles prior to putting down the grout. Prior to the job even starting we went to pick out a new vanity to go in the bathroom. We called Mike while shopping and asked him specifically about the style of vanity we were looking at to make sure he felt that it would work with the space and the plumbing that we had in the bathroom. He advised us that we would be able to purchase up to a 42" vanity and that it would be no problem if we purchased a vanity with an open bottom, which would involve moving the plumbing up and over to be contained behind the vanity. After Mike started the work of installing the vanity, he advised us that the plumbing work was beyond his scope and advised that he was just going to "leave it to my roommate" to finish installing the vanity to the wall and move the plumbing to where it needed to be. At that point, my vanity was not even flush to the wall and I could not fully close the drawers in the front because the plumbing was not positioned where it needed to be. He mentioned several times that he could "probably" make it work, but was working hard at that moment in time to convince me to let him leave the job undone. I advised him that I absolutely was not going to consider the job done until my vanity was installed properly as that was part of the original bid he gave me. That evening Mike wanted to come back and settle up and receive payment even though there were still parts of the job that needed to be finished. I agreed to go ahead and give him payment based on him coming back and completing the job the following day. Again, he came during the day when we were not home and left before we got back. When my girlfriend came home and reviewed the work that he did and what he considered "finished" she was furious. We noticed that the grout in between several of the tiles was crumbling. The dry wall was not finished. There were spots where patches of the dry wall were not sanded and you could still see the drywall tape in spots. There were also several visible gouges in the wall and places where there were gaps in the drywall around the windowsill. In addition Mike made a tile border around the base of the wall. He did not clean up the top of the baseboard before sealing it with a clear silicone, which left it looking messy and unfinished. There were flakes of white drywall and dust that were sealed in. He did attach the vanity and move the plumbing, but he sealed the vanity to the wall with a clear silicone caulking. The paint on the existing wall is blue and with the clear silicone caulking when we go to paint, there will still be a line of blue behind the clear caulking, not to mention that the caulking was not flat and had wrinkles in it. He also used a clear silicone up the corners and seams of the wall and left a buildup of dry wall in the corners of the ceiling. The corners and seams were not crisp and finished like they should be. The final straw was that the floor under the closet, that we were charged extra for "leveling" was not at all level. I set a cabinet on top of it and it teetered by about an inch. We expressed to Mike that we were not happy with the work and asked him to come back and do a walkthrough so we could explain to him the things we felt needed to be fixed. Mike did come back and we showed him the places that we felt needed to be fixed. I expressed at that time that I was not happy with the fact that the floor was not level in that corner. I also questioned Mike as to why he did not use spacers throughout the floor when he put down the tile. His response was "Well sometimes I do, sometimes I don't." I really was not going to make a big deal about the uneven grout lines, but I did feel that the leveling in the corner needed to be fixed. Mike did come back, again, while we were not there and sanded down some of the areas on the wall that were not sanded previously and fixed the gap in the drywall around the windowsill. He also dug out the grout that was crumbling and reset a couple of the tiles and put down new grout and removed the clear caulking around the sink and put in a white caulking instead. He did not contact us after that to make sure we were happy with the work, he just came and did the work to what he felt was "done" and left. When we got home to review the work, we were still not happy with the job he did. The tile that he pulled up and regrouted was now loose. We stayed off of it for 24 hrs. but after that when we stepped on it, you can hear it creak because it's moving. There was also a fairly substancial scratch on the tile that looks like may have happened from a metal tool of some sort. He did not clean up the top of the baseboard, and while he fixed some of the gouges in the drywall, he managed to make new ones that were still left. There are drywall fibers hanging out around the windowsill and the work he did in that space is not level. It is smooth, but the surface of the wall is not even. He also did not do anything about fixing the leveling of the floor. In addition, the grout is crumbling again. I contacted Mike yet again on a Saturday and left him a message saying that we still did not feel that the job was complete. He did not return our call. We sent an email stating that we needed a response back from him and that we were doing everything we could to extend him the opportunity to fix the work he did prior to taking further measures. We gave him 24 hrs. from the time of that email to respond before we elected to take further measures. He sent back a highly unprofessional and nasty email saying that the problems with the work had to do with pre-existing issues with the settling of the house and the work that was done before. He said that it was not possible to make the floor level without extensive re-construction and that the problems with the tile were because we wouldn't stay off of them. I advised him that I know that crumbling of grout does not happen from people walking on it. It happens from the grout not being mixed to the proper consistency. In addition it is crumbling in areas where we do not even walk. The lose tile is because he did not adhere it properly to the sub-floor when he reinstalled it and he was not willing to take any accountability for the fact that he scratched the tile. He said he would not be willing to fix the floor at his expense and said he should have charged us more money for the sub-par work that he did. He also stated that he considered the walls "done" even though clearly he left spots unfinished. Everything he did was careless and unprofessional. His attitude was poor and it's evident that he just lacks the skills necessary to do the job properly. I would not recommend that anyone hire him to do any sort of job.
Description of Work: Removal of a built in closet and tile floor. Repaired walls and ceiling from old closet. Enclosed vent stack pipe. Installed new tile on floor with tile baseboard. Removed and reinstalled toilet. Installed new vanity and sink. Leveled floor under closet with existing bath floor. Installation of new vanity involved having to move plumbing up and over. Repair of ceiling above the closet required some extra work because it was out of level by 2" with the rest of the ceiling. Disposed of all materials.
