This was a roof for my parents house that I took care of for them. Initially it was very hard to get in touch with them to get an estimate. I was trying to get in touch with them based on a referral from my brother-in-law but I wasn't getting a response on the voice messages I would leave. I was about to give up on them and go with someone else when he finally returned my call and came out to give me an estimate. From there on things went well. These folks aren't as formal with the estimates and such, but I found them a pleasure to work with. Once the decision was made to use their services, we did sign an agreement, but I wasn't asked for a down payment. The shingles were delivered when they said they would be. The work took two days to complete. I live an hour away from my parents ... but I wanted to be there while they worked. Each day they were about an hour late getting started which I really didn't mind except for the fact I would have appreciated the extra hour of sleep if they could have been a little more accurate. I did yard work for my parents while they worked. The workers were all very polite and cheerful the whole time. It was a really good crew. They cleaned up at the end of each day. Previously whenever I would have roofing work done, the roofers would always leave behind a half dozen or more singles in case small repairs would be needed at some point in the future. Don't expect that from this crew. They don't leave anything behind. We weren't expected to pay until all work was complete and we inspected to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. This surprised me that they didn't require some money up front ... but the owner will show up as the work is being completed and expected a check immediately which I totally found ok. Overall, great team.

Description of Work: re-roofed after hail. It is a steep roof but with easy enough access. It took a while. | |When I built, we used a soldered copper flashing that completely surrounded the flue. For this to work as designed, it needs clear space around the flue perimeter. These guys shingled tight against it. It leaked after the repair. I contacted them and they came back. As I am gone from home a lot, today, when I cleaned the flue, I was able to see their work. Unfortunately, the solution they employ is caulk rather than thought/understanding. Other than this time bomb, they did an OK job.

This work was for my parents. It was initiated when they changed insurance companies and the new company would not cover the roof on their house until some repairs were completed. After assessing options, it was decided it would be better to over-shingle the roof than to simply do repairs. Two contractors were contacted ... one that had a good Angie's list rating and this one that had been used by my brother-in-law. At first I contacted this contractor by getting his main phone number from the internet. I left several messages and did not get a return call. I then was about to give up on him when I believe he was contacted by my sister via his cell phone and he called me. We made an appointment and he met me on time at my parents. He had good literature with him that described the products he intended to use that helped us in our decision. His estimate form was not as formal and did not contain all the legal forms that were provided with the other contractor's estimate. When I reviewed the estimates with my dad and since his bid was for $300 less than the other contractor for exactly the same materials, we decided this would be the best deal. I contacted Rick and let him know he had the job. I asked if he needed anything like a contract or down-payment to get started and he said he was willing to accept our conversation as a verbal contract. The materials were delivered on Friday and Monday morning they started work. I decided I would meet the workers at my parents house and do other work around the house while the roofing work was performed. I was told to plan on them starting work at 7AM so I was there at that time and considering it is a one hour drive for me ... that meant I had to get up earlier than I normally would have. At 8AM they had not show up yet so I called Rick. He explained they had to pick up some equipment and would arrive in about 30 minutes which they did. They quickly set up and got started. My mom is normally very sensitive to noise and we were both amazed that there was not a lot of noise filtering down into the house so that made me happy. The first day they completed most of the work and wrapped up when the heat made the singles soft. They said they didn't want to cause any damage walking on them and quit about 2PM. They cleaned up everything before they left. I asked what time they would show up the next day and was told 8AM. Tuesday I was there at 8AM but the workers were not there yet .. but the first one showed up within about 5 minutes after and immediately got to work setting everything up again. By the time he completed the setup, the others were there. They wrapped up their work and cleaned up around the house again. Normally I've had roofers leave an open bundle of shingles in case a later repair might be necessary and I asked them about leaving some and was told it would never be necessary because of the quality of this shingle. When I had my roof replaced, I had actually purchased a higher quality shingle as the roofer voluntarily left me with what was left from an open bundle. It may be just a security thing and may never be needed, but I believe it is a good gesture. Overall, I am very pleased with this contractor. I appreciated being able to do things on a verbal handshake versus all of the threat of leans and legal paperwork that is typically required. Rick came to the house after his workers had left to ensure we were satisfied and to get a check for the work. The workers were all local people who spoke English. Neither my parents or I remember hearing any foul language so I really appreciated that. In addition, all of them were polite and respectful. I would use this contractor again in the future.

I believe the estimate was a reasonable and was provided within a reasonable timeframe; however, it was higher than I can afford for these repairs since I am currently unemployed ... even factoring in a coupon for some of the work. The contractor was very professional. The quote was simply higher than I expected it to be.

I called Rick, the president of A-Best Roofing, and requested an estimate. He told me he would try to get by over the weekend. On Monday evening, I got an estimate from another roofer who said they could do it in a day and after giving it a day's consideration, I was going to hire them for the job after work on Tuesday. However, when I got home, I found Rick's estimate stuck in my front door. It was considerably less than the first one and included a ridge vent, an item that wasn't included on the other. So I called Rick, and after some questions, I hired him for the job. He told me it would take 2 1/2 days but it was an easy choice given the difference in price. They started six days later and 2 1/2 days after that, the new roof was finished, the workers had cleaned up after themselves and my satellite dish did not need to be reaimed. The roof looks nice and I am satisfied. So I called Rick and I thought we had arranged to settle up at my house at 5 on Thursday, but 5:00 Thursday came and went and he had not shown. So I called later that evening and made other arrangements. Overall, I am pleased with the price and the outcome. I just think that for the money, it isn't unreasonable to expect to meet the man face to face at least once. That is my reason for the B in professionalism and responsiveness. For quality of workmanship and price, though, I would recommend A-Best Roofing without hesitation.

We could not be happier with the work that they performed.
Description of Work: This company did excellent work gave us a true estimate of repairs when the other roofing companies only wanted to say they would fix it for whatever the insurance paid us. They were in and out in 2 days and cleaned up there mess completly.
