Lonnie arrived on time and was very professional and thorough in his preparation, the move and the setup in the new location. He even repaired the pedal assembly which evidently had been broken for years and he reversed the legs for a better display of the design of the legs.

Everything was perfect from the 1st call for information until the piano was delivered. They took the time to explain everything to me and eased my concern of having my piano hanging out somewhere for a couple of weeks. The piano was in great condition and I didn't have to lift a finger other than calling them and paying the check. The piano was in their care the entire time and not being passed between local movers & the long hauler. The movers were very knowledgeable and kept in touch by phone. They are very much worth the cost and it ended up being less than all other options. Will use them again if I ever have to move the piano long distance again.

Hands down, as professional as one can get! These are REAL movers specialized in pianos, they really know the ins and outs of handling these instruments. From first contact with Cory to delivery I have nothing but the highest praises to Modern Piano Moving. They moved my piano from the West Coast to the Midwest with care and professionalism. The piano arrived just as it left its former location: in pristine condition! Communication was always very good, emails and phone calls were always promptly answered/returned. And the professionals in charge of delivering my piano - Patrick, John, and Don - had years of experience, the best truck and equipment to work with, a great deal of knowledge about the handling and lifting of heavy (really heavy) things, and moved a grand piano with ease and lots of skill down through a challenging staircase leading to my studio basement. They are very respectful, polite and very engaging! You can tell they take a lot of pride of working for this company and spoke very highly of its owner and the way they are treated as employees. This tells me that this a very serious company, committed to excellence in service and aware that they can only achieve it by training, respecting and empowering the people they hire. I highly recommend Modern Piano Moving...they are not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for: a truly remarkable service. Thanks to Cory, Patrick, John and Don!!!

The movers Chris and Wes were very professional and kept us informed on their location on the day of the delivery. They arrived within the time window stated. They took extra care not to damage our hardwood floors or walls as they placed it in our living room. They even laid down moving blankets on our sidewalk to keep their metal ramp from scratching the concrete and steps. The attention to detail was very much appreciated.

We have a long driveway - LONG - but their 75' truck couldn't come up as they wouldn't have been able to back down into the street. So, they unloaded at street level and had to push the piano up the hill all the way to the house. They were cheerful, professional, and punctual! Very pleased and will use them again.

The best piano move ever. Having had a terrible experience years ago with a national moving company (who destroyed my piano) I was determined to find the right people to move this grand. With attention to every detail the movers padded, packed and maneuvered the instrument out of my home flawlessly. On arrival in upstate New York the movers again maneuvered it through a tight entry and set it up perfectly. Surprisingly, the instrument remained in tune, a sign of gentle treatment and no vast humidity changes because the instrument was wrapped correctly. Having been a piano salesman in New York City and in charge of rentals for home and public performance I've been involved with hundreds of moves. I couldn't have asked for more or had it done better. Thank you!

This was a difficult move involving stairs at both pick-up and delivery locations. Both sets of movers were extremely professional and pleasant to deal with. I got a piano from my Dad when he sold his home. My problem is it was out of state. I requested a quote from Modern Piano's website online form. I was contacted quickly and was able to work out dates for the pick-up and drop-off. The way their service works, they have a range of dates for each end of the trip and call two days before they will be at each location. Once we were told the pick-up (and drop-off) time it did not change and they showed up near the beginning of the time period they had indicated. These guys worked efficiently, were very careful of the piano and our home, and were polite and professional. The price was very reasonable too. I had contacted a few other movers and this was the best price and the company was the most responsive. Everyone I talked to at Modern Piano was helpful, pleasant, and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing to move a piano.

Let me begin by saying that everyone, and I mean everyone, I dealt with was pleasant, professional and polite. Everyone wanted to be as helpful as possible. With that said, scheduling was a nightmare. The piano had to be moved from an empty house so the move had to be coordinated so someone could meet the movers at the house. They won't move a piano until they have a full truck. Makes sense, but certainly not geared towards good customer service. We were finally given a date for pickup and delivery. The delivery ended up being late and, I guess to satisfy us, the piano ended up arriving at 9:30 p.m. Then the guys had to set it up. It was a late night for everyone. The piano is old and was dry. In moving, some of the decorative pieces on the legs fell off. Hoping to be helpful, the movers glued it back on. However, it shifted during the move and had to be professionally removed and replaced (at my expense) once it arrived here. I do believe I contacted the company when all was done but never got any response. I feel I should have gotten some apology, remuneration, something (!) for all of my trouble. I even remember speaking to someone on the phone who said they were having a big meeting and this case would be discussed. I never got any feedback. Very disappointing.

I asked Angie, in our customer service department, to research this move which happened over a year ago, her notes below. It appears this issue was not caused by us, other than attempting to repair it. There was nothing noted on the delivery ticket and a claim was never initiated. We would have been happy to help had we been asked. I researched the details of this move and it appears that the pick-up crew had several cracks noted on all of the legs on the inventory, and while disassembling the piano one of the pieces that was cracked broke off. Lou offered to glue it for the customer, and between pick-up and delivery the glued piece shifted. I found a phone conversation between Jennifer and the [Member name removed] in which [Member name removed] was wanting the brand of glue used so he could tell the technician who was coming that day to make the repairs. Jennifer told them that the claims department was working on trying to get hold of the technician that made the repairs on his claim. I was never made aware of the issue and this was never a claim, Jennifer said she would get back with them before she left for the day but there wasn’t any phone records after that one. In the phone call the customer didn’t seem concerned about the issue, he just said the technician needed to know the type of glue was used so they knew what to use to soften it to take the piece back apart. Nothing was noted on the delivery report to open a claim or note any issues.

This is the first time I have ever purchased a piano online and relocated that from one city to another. Obviously, there was a lot of anxiety involved but I have complete faith in this company to provide the best service and they delivered! The estimation was initially done at the Company's website and the final price was really close to the original estimate. By no mean it is the cheapest company but you don't make any compromise when you deal with a delicate and heavy instrument. The entire experience was really pleasant. It took about 2 months for the task to be completed, one month for the piano to be picked up from the New York warehouse and one month for it to be delivered to Houston. I believe that they took really good care of the piano during the entire process. When the movers arrived, they professionally negotiated the steps and corners in my house and placed it at the designated location in our living room. A grand piano is a major purchase and I am not sure if I will ever buy another one. If I need an interstate piano mover in the future, I will not have a second though about using this company again.

Modern Piano moved my grandma's baby grand from LA to Las Vegas. They did a great job staying in contact via phone about what time they would arrive and even called to say they would be early if I was ok with that, which was fine by me. They rolled up in a huge tractor trailer and got the piano unloaded and moved in efficiently and carefully. The three men were very polite and didn't mind my kids' excitement and questions about the piano. They gave me good advice about when to get the piano tuned and helped me realize that I shouldn't keep the lid up when my cats are around since they could possibly knock the stand down and get smashed! Clearly that had not occurred to me! I appreciated everything they did; it was a good experience and I recommend their work.

This is the second time I used Modern Piano movers. The first time 2 years ago they took my piano from Boston to San Francisco and this time it was a shorter move from San Francisco to Santa Cruz. I would highly recommend the company. They are very professional and great at their jobs. San Francisco is not an easy city to move a piano, we had quite a number of steps and a 90 degree turn, all of which costs more. When you see what is involved in getting the piano up those steps i am not surprised at the cost! Both jobs for me went very smoothly. Although i could have hired someone more local for the short move to santa cruz I would not trust just any company with my precious piano! Modern Piano are excellent and I would not hesitate to use them again.

I was referred by Move and Tune Pianos in Denver when my grandmother passed away and I needed to get her piano from CO to CA. Move and Tune told me right away that Modern Piano Moving is not the cheapest option but they are the most reliable national moving company he has worked with so I decided to go with them since my grandmother had years of history working with Move and Tune and trusted their judgement. When I first called Modern Piano I had a different idea of what would happen in my mind, but I guess I'm not the only one since they explained right away how their process worked. They have to find a time slot in their schedule to pick up the piano (30 day window) and then another time slot to deliver (30 day window) so depending on where the truck will be headed throughout the country they will pickup/deliver as efficiently as their schedule will allow. They did always contact me with updates when they were available so I was never in the dark about when they would pickup/drop off. Pickup did take the full 30 days to work into their schedule. Delivery was only 2 weeks later. Total of 6 weeks from my initial phone call. Delivery was very smooth. I was a little surprised with the truck that arrived. I was asked if I had trailer access and stairs when they called to confirm delivery (most movers will charge extra by the step, but I had none so I cannot comment on the charges this company has, I just know they asked). My street is very wide with no obstructions so I saw no issues regardless of how large the truck might be, but since they called it a "trailer" I had expected something much smaller. It was probably one of the largest semi trucks I've seen so be warned if you have a low clearance where you live, tight turns or narrow streets. Otherwise they were very fast to unload and checked with me on placement to ensure the piano was where I wanted it to be. They also tested all functions and recommended some affiliate tuners. Overall I was satisfied and would recommend them for a national move. You could probably find a better discount though if you are just moving locally. I would shop around.

Don't use them. Please see all other reviews on Angie's List where they damaged pianos and then refused to repair them. In my case, this Modern Piano damaged my piano by cracking the small lid on both sides and broke my shutters when they dropped my piano upon delivery in 2013. I have been writing letters to Russell Vitt, the owner, without a response. My lawyer contacted him and Modern Piano, again, no response. I did exchange a few emails with Mr. Vitt but he refused to take responsibility and claims that my 1865 Chickering Full Grand is worth less than $1,000. I had the piano appraised professionally the month before the move and it appraised at $20,000. But Modern Piano refuses to accept facts or reimburse me for the cost to replace my shutters. The company is openly hostile with any type of repairs that are required and has refused to repair or reimburse me for my damages.

This review is simply inaccurate. This move occurred 8/17/2013. While we strive for zero issues (less than 2% of moves result in a claim) accidents happen. During this delivery, the piano tipped against some indoor blinds cracking the small portion of the lid and displacing 3 louvers on the blinds. This was an easy fix, estimated at $300. We immediately took responsibility for it and arranged for repair. Unfortunately this customer refused to allow it and insisted we pay $3200 to repair the small lid (a new one is $700) and another $3240 to repair the blind. Seriously? With regards to other Angie’s list reviews, there are 77. One didn’t like our quote system, one thought we didn’t answer her call fast enough and one didn’t like that we couldn’t do their local move, all were responded to. Of the 74 actual customer reviews, 71 are very happy (96%) and 3 were unhappy (4%). Two had the repairs completed but didn’t like the results, and this one. We never refused to repair any of these. Of the 15,000 plus moves we have done since 2011, that’s not bad. I (Russell Vitt, the owner) responded to this claim on September 27, 2013, addressing the issues and offering a repair solution. There have been no other requests. Angie and Derek from my office have multiple emails attempting resolution. My email and cell phone have been the same for 30 years and are clearly displayed on our website (pianomover.com) if anyone would like more information or a copy of the correspondence.

I needed to move a piano from Ohio to Missouri. I found Modern Piano Moving here on Angie's List. All the reviews were great. I also contacted 2 other movers who wanted almost twice as much for the same service. So of course I went with MPM. The 2 men were polite, friendly, punctual, and very professional. I was so impressed as I watched them wrap the piano. They took care in protecting my piano , the walls, doorway..They were in and out in 30 min. On the receiving end the delivery of the piano also went very smoothly.

It went very well. From the first phone call speaking with Chris to the delivery at my sister's house in Connecticut, everything was perfect. After Chris spoke to my sister and got the ok from her, he called me back to let me know what day the movers would be at my house. He also gave me the time slot. On the pick up day, the driver called me when they were about 20 minutes away. They got here and systematically went about preparing the piano to get it up the 4-5 stairs outside and into the truck. The two men who picked up the piano were so polite and worked very well together and fast. I was very impressed. They were probably done within 1/2 an hour. It takes about a month to ship because they pick up all the pianos going in the same direction and then deliver them. On my end they were here around the beginning of October and my sister received the piano on November 8. She was just as impressed with them as I was. I am very grateful to Modern Piano for taking such good care of our upright and getting it to my sister in a relatively short period of time.

Excellent customer service, not a scratch on my piano or hardwoods, and the movers were friendly and detail oriented. The piano had to go up a staircase with a turn landing and I was very happy with how smoothly everything went. Their price was competitive or less than other piano movers also (stairs and turn added a little to the cost which is expected). Great company that I'd highly recommend.

Movers arrived on time. They were very pleasant and friendly. The acted very professional and took care moving both pianos. The move across town was perfect. The move across the country was a little frustrating. They were set up to arrive between 6 and 9 at night on a Saturday. Friday they contacted us to say they might need a shuttle to the house due to small roads and a big truck. I offered to set up the shuttle and found someone willing to meet them at night on Saturday but they refused saying they would arrange it. By the time they got into town, Uhaul, etc, was closed of course, for the day. So they told us they'd try again on Sunday morning. Well of course, Uhaul didn't open until noon on Sunday and the movers couldn't wait so I am not waiting another week "or more". By the time the piano gets to the house it will have been bouncing around the country for almost 6 weeks, on its side. Needless to say I am not pleased. I understand the circumstances were by chance and things happen that are out of people's control, but after all this they still expected me to pay for the shuttle. I told them I would not due to the fact that I had someone willing to help and they refused, then didn't plan or call ahead to Uhaul. It's not 09/29 and I'm still waiting to hear from them and find out what's going on with the piano. What's worse is, no one will be at the home to receive the piano in a couple weeks so they need to get it to us before then.
