The install went fine so I thought and the system worked well for a few months after that we noticed that the heat pump wouldn't keep the house warm so we called Midstate and reported it. We had gas furnace backup so we were in okay shape. Jesse (midstate HVAC owner) would come out in a few days and not be able to find problem. SO we'd turn it back on only to have same problem. This went on 2 winters in a row. The A/C always worked fine and we weren't too worried about it because we had back up gas. Well after the second winter he quit taking calls and then the gas furnace quit and he would not respond. So a friend referred us to Benitz they came out and found the burners clogged. The tech said normally when we install these units they get their combustion air from outside because household chemicals really effect these burners. SO there was one problem. We asked him about the heat pump while he was there and the first thing he noticed was that the temp sensor for the heat pump was on the south side of the house he said it would never read right and the heat pump would be trying to work when you should be on the backup. Cause on a 20 degree day the sun shining on that sensor the heat pump thinks it's 50 outside and will keep trying to run. SO there was 2 major things that should have never happened for this system to function properly and may have contributed to the heat pump issue in the first place. The guy was able to diagnose the heat pump the first time it quit heating and I had to pay for labor cause Benitz didn't install it. It has a semi happy ending cause the system is working but it cost me about 1700 out of my pocket for labor. Jesse is a good kid but his customer service and troubleshooting skills are lacking.
