I called for a bid and to schedule replacing two water heaters. I spoke to Nicole who was less focused on the task at hand and more on correcting me over the need for an additional part. The call escalated and I became angry at her persistent nonsense. Since I couldn't get past her to speak to anyone else I ended the call more than upset with her demeanor and lack of customer service skills. Ive used this company several times in the past (apparently pre-Nichole) and had always been more than happy with scheduling and certainly with their work performed. Janice normally answered the phone and was so friendly and pleasant that I was surprised by the difficult conversation with Nicole and her lack of understanding how to perform a simple reception function; schedule the job. I Because of this, wrote a very pointed review and graded them an F. After getting my original AL review, Will the owner called to discuss the incident. I am editing my review after that conversation and changing the grade from F to C. I felt that he defended his employee to the extent any employer should but did not excuse her behavior. I believe he understood my position and that there were some deficiencies in the customer skills at the front desk that left me looking for someone new. He was apologetic but more importantly he expressed that he valued his customers and would improve in this area. Since no work was performed and the owner responded appropriately I have amended my review changed the grade to a C and will consider him for work in the future.

We discovered the leak Labor Day. Called another company who listed a 24 hour emergency line. Wasn't worth the cost. The normal price they quoted was about $40-50 per hour more than I expected. Called a couple of other plumbers first thing Tuesday morning who I've used previously and who have pretty typical rates for the area, but they weren't available. Robert from Maplewood Plumbing was available and on site within 90 minutes of my call. He was dressed and acted professionally. He actually explained what he was doing and why (things he'd seen done wrong on other jobs) with similar situations. In our case, the floor installers some 5 or so years ago only put in wax rings to seal the toilet without adding spacers to effectively raise the flange so the seal remained solid. It took him a little over an hour to complete the work, but I'm confident the proper repair was done for the long term. (Unfortunately, based on what he told me, the plumber who came out to respond to the same situation a couple of months ago regarding our master bath toilet that did the exact same thing only replaced the wax ring, but did not install the spacers. Hopefully it will hold a few years or until we get new toilets for those bathrooms.)
Description of Work: Replaced seal on second floor toilet that caused leak into first floor half bath ceiling.

Previous owners installed a new floor which required the toilet to be reseated with longer bolts. Plumber arrived on time and came out same day. Gotta love that. He had to leave to get longer bolts. $30 to go get the parts. I was thankful we weren't charged for the entire time he was gone as he was gone quite a while. He installed new flapper/valve parts for the toilet, which we didn't ask for, but the parts are cheap and the time to take care of this is before the install anyway, so saves us some trouble down the road. He had to pull a rag out of the pipe that was lodged pretty far down. Have reseated about 5 toilets in my lifetime with my husband - and complicated ones too - thought the job by a professional should take about an hour (normally takes us about that long) at best and cost around $150, was double that cost...only reason I am less than satisfied. I am sure the work is fine, just wished the price was less or it was completed a little faster. Update: They ended up calling back and dropped the price as we were charged for time to get the part and not the normal fee of $30, so in the end. Happy customer. Price was right for the work and job was well done! Thank you Maplewood Plumbing.

It took a little longer than I thought it would, perhaps because the faucets were European. It went fine and he cleaned up after himself and was very neat. After he left I noticed that the cold water faucet was a little loose and called them to come back. It wasn't major, but I was concerned that it might loosen up more and become a problem. They did come back, but couldn't fix the problem. He called Growe, the manufacturer and was told it might be a defect in the handle. It should have come right off and wouldn't budge. He ordered a new part for me and will be back when it comes in.

Rick was my plumber and he was great. He explained things as he went, and was very congenial. The original call was just for the back yard faucet, but I asked him to check the front on his way out and it turned out it was leaking too. So he replaced it and had to cut through the brick wall - it seemed the house had been built around this pipe! Anyway he installed a cut off inside the basement and did a beautiful job on everything. He had everything he needed to do the job, very organized and able to come up with solutions for every problem. I would definitely call them for future plumbing needs.

The first appointment, on a Monday, went smoothly. The plumber arrived on time, inspected the areas of repair and determined parts needed to be ordered. The next appointment was set for Friday, with parts expected to arrive on Thursday. I arranged my week accordingly. Then the office rescheduled for Thursday. Hmm, what if the parts don't come in on time? "Just call us when you get them, and we'll send someone over." Ok, I rearranged my schedule to be available Thursday afternoon. The parts arrived at 3:30-ish. I called, and was informed the appointment was moved to Friday. Why didn't they let me know earlier, so I didn't have to wait in vain for a delivery and the service appointment on Thursday? The plumber did arrive on Friday to complete the job, but not until 4:15. (This, after the office had informed me a day earlier that the latest they could send a plumber out was 2 p.m.) He had worked another job all day, and I really do appreciate his determination to get to me. However, because the job took longer than expected, this meant he didn't complete the job until 6:45 p.m. Don't they have more than one plumber? Adding to the frustration with scheduling, I felt the job was too expensive. I chose Maplewood Plumbing because of its high rating on Angies List and the fact they were offering a coupon. Turned out it was not much of a deal. The cost was $507 to install two new parts on an existing faucet and installing a new shower head. That just seems really high to me. I did not ask in advance what their hourly rate is, assuming with the coupon I was getting a reasonable deal. Their hourly rate is $120, roughly twice what I have paid other plumbers. The actual plumbing work was acceptable, but for all the trouble with scheduling and the high price, I did not have a good experience with Maplewood Plumbing.

Plumber arrived on time. I had a problem with a leaking cold water faucet - the one connected to the washer. Ended up replacing both faucets because the original replacement faucet would not fit in the old cabinet that housed the faucets. Despite the added expense, it was a right decision to take the option of replacing both faucets with up to code ones with easier shut-offs. Plumber was polite, explained everything (almost) and completed work in a timely fashion. I didn't know that plumbers don't replace drywall, so the drywall he cut to install the new faucets had to be fixed later. However, he did cut the piece out very neatly, making it very easy to fix.

Was excited to see great reviews of Maplewood Plumbing since it is very close to my home and I like to support local businesses. Called the company twice over the course of a few months to ask about instalation of a battery back up sump pump. Both times I was told I would receive a call back from Will (I believe this is the owner) and I never heard back from them. Was a little surprised given they are an AL super service award winner. This is not what I call service. Disappointed...

I'm sorry to say that I dropped the ball and didn't connect with [member name removed]. I did reach him by phone and apologized for not following up after he posted his review today. My office staff did communicate to me the need to follow up, and for whatever reason, I just screwed up. [member name removed] frustration is understandable. I will do my best to make sure his experience with our company is an outlier. -Will Oberkrom, owner

Brad from Maplewood Plumbing called and asked if he could stop by earlier due to a cancellation - I was grateful for the call and the courtesy of letting me know a new time slot opened up. Brad was on time and got to work right away. After finding one of my shut off valves was broken, he replaced that item and installed my new faucet all within an hour's time. Brad was professional and didn't leave a mess when he was finished which was appreciated. I am very happy with my new faucet and the job that was completed.

Purchased through a "Big Deal" for $135 - two hours of work. I was contacted quickly by the office manager to schedule an appointment. Plumber (Eric) showed up on time. I provided the new faucet, and he installed it. He also installed shutoff valves for the supply to the faucet. I paid $60 more dollars for the additional parts. No problems.

They were so professional the first time that I used them again this month. The job last month was a big job that involved breaking up my foundation with a jackhammer and fixing the pipe. They did their best to keep the cost down. They did a great job cleaning up the work and completed it relatively quickly. The office staff were also friendly, responsive, and accommodating. They are honest people and I would definitely call them again.

Everything went well until the end of the installation when it became clear that the faucet didn't fit perfectly into the sink opening.
