Construction was right on schedule and the work was of very good quality. I would definitely use this company again.

The whole process took only 7 1/2 days. The old deck debris was put in a dumpster in our driveway. The crew was here on time each morning and worked hard each day--no goofing off. Jim came out after the job was completed to ask how it went and if there was anything else we needed. A few details needed taking care of (such as attaching the Charter cable under the deck) and Jim took care of that.

Jim is a nice man and gave us a fair quote to build a new set of steps to the front of our home. His crew of two men did a fine job, working with us to get the steps and landing just how we wanted it to look. The results are terrific, just like we envisioned.

We had a plan in mind and drew up what we wanted based on a home that we owned in the past. We got about 5 different quotes ranging from $8900 to $30,000. Jim came out gave us a quote in a timely manor and even took off $1000 for being an Angie's list member. The workers were all very friendly and courteous. They were punctual and worked in unbearable heat without complaining. Nice group of men. Jim was always available in answering my questions or called me right back. We now have a beautiful deck and look forward to enjoying it for years to come.

Went well. Came out to review project quickly, however, it took awhile for it to be fixed. However the work done was great and I definitely would use again.

Jim provided a quick estimate and when I panicked and needed the gate fixed he sent someone out the next day to take care of it. They were on time, worked hard all day, and completed the job as expected. Both Jim and the person who did the work were professional and did a great job. I am very pleased.

Steven returned my call quickly and set up an appointment to provide a free estimate the next day. He went above and beyond, showing me exactly where supports needed to be replaced so that the swing set was safe. Once the work was scheduled he arrived on time and completed the project in an efficient manner. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this company and will definitely use them again in the future.

Very professional and top quality work - the work was done over the course of two weeks. Jim and his crew cleaned up the site every day and at the end. Everything looks great and pergola is even more beautiful than I thought. No problems at all - I was the one who caused a delay by not knowing I needed to get my homeowner association board's approval (I would check that if you have an association). Top quality material and work!

The repairs were made and the job was completed.

Jim recommended not replacing the posts because they were in good condition. He said to cut off the tops of the posts and place covers on instead. He also installed bracing at no charge on one side of deck because it was not stable. We will certainly consider The Hungry Carpenter for future projects.

Jim was easy to work with and very responsive. Very happy with the work done. Would highly recommend him and work with him again.

Jim replied to my email immediately and we set up a time to meet within the next few days. He was punctual, polite and professional. He provided estimates shortly afterwards, and promptly made adjustments per my requests. I would have been happy to have him do the work, but a family friend who originally said they didn't have time changed their mind. I will keep Jim's number for next time.

The job went well. The crew was punctual and polite and answered all of my layman's questions. The owner obtained the necessary permits and delivered the material on time. The new deck is so much better than the old one. It was built to specifications and surpassed what is required by code.

They were able to start the job quickly and complete it in only two days. The team was very accommodating and gave great recommendations. Their pricing on the built in was very competitive and the team cleaned up after themselves well. We have used them for other projects since and they will continue to be on our short list of great carpenters that we receive quotes from for other projects.

I thought when we signed up with Angie's list they would be weeding out the contractors who are not professional. Jim came over and looked at two different projects that we need done in our home. One to be completed ASAP (cash in hand now) and the other in the fall. He seemed very nice and knowledgeable on the tasks at hand. When he left he informed us that it might be as late as the next week before he would be able to get a bid to us.....well, it has been 3 weeks and I have not even received a courtesy call. If you don't want the business, the job, or don't have the time, you should still return a call. I am very disappointed in the professionalism of some of the businesses that Angie's list allows on their website.

I contacted Jim, the owner who was great to deal with. After having ome issues with one of his workers, Jim came out himself, gave me a quote and worked quick to come out and do the work. He came out when he said he would, and got the work done very quickly. Jim remedied any issue that I had and I would use him again for any future work at this house or my next.

Jim and his crew were excellent! They were friendly, punctual, and very clean. The deck they built for us is a TimberTech composite and is strong and looks amazing. I would refer them to anyone. Thank you Hungry carpenters for making this an easy and quick project. -Brewers

Oh my goodness, Jim Watson and his guys are awesome! From the very first meeting, I thoroughly enjoyed working with Jim during each stage of the project. He was a pleasure to talk to and really took time to understand what I was looking for. Jim was also very quick to respond and always called with questions if he was unsure about something. Jim's crew quickly tore down the old deck and built the new one over the several days. Everyone was very friendly, professional and cleaned up after themselves. The deck's design is beautiful and far surpassed my expectations. The concrete patio was poured soon after, and it looks amazing! I'm so excited to have a new space to use this year! In fact, I've already used the deck several times! Now....I need to get new patio furniture since the deck really makes my old stuff look like junk! LOL!

Our experience with them was very positive. They completed everything what we wanted to, on time and on budget.

Jay and George were professional, on-time, pleasant and communicated well all along the way. The work was done quickly and well. They were extremely clean and left my home was they found it. I would recommend them to anyone and plan to use them again.

It took quite awhile from initial contract to commencement of the work. However, that delay was acceptable to us since we were not in a rush. Jim was easy to work with and the guys were friendly and did a really nice job. There was one issue that probably could have been avoided through better communication between the guys/Jim/us, but Jim wasted no time in making it right and correcting the issue. For me, that is one of the hallmarks of a quality company - sometimes things do go wrong, but a quality company steps up without argument or delay and addresses the problem. Will use again.

Because of scheduling, took about 4 months for work to start. Great quality of work, beautiful wood working, particularly the fence addition. Work went very quickly once it began. Guys were good about keeping the front yard clean where it mattered most, but the backyard was a mess for a week. Final cost did come in over the original quote, as we discovered that the existing porch was poorly supported. The amount went up based on the additional work and material required to fix. We are overall statisfied with the work, but communication could have been better in terms of scheduling and knowing when and what work was going to be done. We typically use our back door & porch, and one day I came home to find the back porch removed - fortunately my husband had a set of keys to the front door.

UPDATE: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! In March of 2015 we lost power in our home. We called Ameren and were told from the service crew that the feeder was damaged when the footings for the deck were dug for our replacement deck. Jim Watson has resolved himself from any responsibility and provides no explanation for his actions. He has said to contact his attorney. This is a $3,000.00 bill that we have received from Ameren. We questioned the Ameren service rep as to why this happened 8 months after the deck was completed and the rep told us that this is not uncommon. The sheathing was damaged and sometimes it takes a saturated soil for moisture to penetrated the cable.

The repair went fine, however Jim did not obtain a permit and I was subsequently issued a citation. When I spoke to Jim about this he seemed incredulous that a permit would be needed but agreed to take care of it for "one or two hundred dollars". Weeks passed with repeated promises but no action on his part ... now he says $400. RIP-OFF
