Sundown Landscape Contracting

I am so glad I got to work with Sundown Landscape on my backyard project! Dave listened to all my crazy ideas, and the design was even better than I imagined! He took into account the challenges I would face with 2 large dogs in my yard, and he delivered a final design that would work for them and me. They are a great company that deliver exceptional results! I plan to work them again in the future on other areas of my yard. Thanks Dave and team for surpassing all my expectations!

A patio was installed in the rear of our yard where there is a slight incline. This required some design/build consultation as the project unfolded. The Sundown crew kept us fully informed as they found issues in our yard and carport structure that needed to be resolved. We totally agreed with all of their recommendations on how to make the installation successful. Additionally, a portion of the retaining wall supporting our carport was sinking. They rebuilt the wall so it is now level. We eagerly anticipate Spring arriving to place our furniture on the patio and spend time outside enjoying our Sundown built patio.

Amazing!!! Dave put together a great landscaping plan. He saved the day and was able to design and install a stone wall very quickly which gave the yard a much better slope. His crew is also fantastic! They are polite, professional and they thanked me for the work! I truly appreciate working with such wonderful people.

Excellent! Dave Haring and his team are true professionals, who know the business inside and out. Their suggestions and recommendations helped us choose the right plants for our shady front yard and how to care for the plants after they were gone. They also made a brick sidewalk from the driveway to the front porch that was functional and artistic.

Great! They were fast and efficient. Did a great job of respecting my neighbors property that needed to be used to get the job done. Highly recommended!

Never got past the initial contact. Was told it would cost $60 for a consultation and if I contracted with them, $30 would be put towards the job. I declined since I was meeting with companies not charging a consultation fee. Would have been nice to know upfront about the consultation fee. Although per Sundown, they don’t always charge the fee. They charge a fee for a “more involved estimate”. Whatever that means.

I'm very pleased with Sundown's professionalism and customer service. I wouldn't hesitate to hire again and will recommend them to anyone looking for landscape work. The team made sure that everything was perfect before they left - on one of the hottest days of the summer.

After we reached out to Sundown Landscaping we were contacted by Barb, their landscape planner, who scheduled an appointment to discuss what we wanted for our yard. We explained that we wanted some trees in several areas of our back yard to give a little privacy as well as some visual interest. We also wanted some "garden" areas, particularly next to our back patio and along a staircase on the side of our house leading down to the patio. Barb listened carefully to everything we said and had some great suggestions. After several weeks she met with us again and showed us her proposal, including a large printed layout of our yard diagramming all of the new garden areas and trees and even some photo-like simulated renderings of what each area would look like when finished. She also explained where she suggested we add some accent and landscape lighting. It all looked good to us so we gave them the green light! A few months later the work began and, to our surprise, was completed in only four days. A crew of about ten showed up and they could not have been nicer or more polite. Unfortunately for them the week they did the installation was the first super hot week we had here in St. Louis, but they managed to get everything done quickly and efficiently. Due to the intense heat one tree did not survive (it wasn't anyone's fault; they got the trees planted as quickly as they could!), but the team replaced it before we even knew anything about it. My wife and I were extremely impressed with the professionalism the crew displayed and with the work that was done. We are even having further discussions with Sundown about possibly installing some artificial grass in a section of our back yard to go beneath a play set for our kids. We are equally pleased with the landscape lighting that was installed. It's enough to provide some safety lighting where needed, to highlight a few nice trees, and to give the exterior of the house some definition at night, but it's not overwhelming or ostentatious. We wanted "tasteful," not "tacky," and Sundown hit the nail on the head. The only small frustration we had was some mixed messages about how to coordinate this work with the company that handles our irrigation system. With new garden areas being installed we knew we would need some rotary heads to be removed and some zones of spray heads to be added for the garden areas. We said that we didn't want to have everything installed and then not be able to keep it watered, so we wanted clear instructions on how to time things with the irrigation company. We were first told by Sundown that they would coordinate with the irrigation company about the work they were going to do, and we even called the irrigation company to give them a heads-up. A week before the installation, though, we were told by Sundown not to have the irrigation company come until all of the planting was done because otherwise the crews would be in each other's way. Now we have some beautiful new trees and gardens, but our irrigation system is definitely not optimized to keep everything properly hydrated. A gentleman from our irrigation service inspected the new installations two days after they were completed and we signed a contract for them to make the appropriate changes, but until they make these changes we have to keep everything watered as best we can -- and the last few weeks have been VERY hot here (yup, St. Louis in July!). For the past two weeks I have spent over an hour every day or two setting free-standing sprinklers in various areas of the yard and running around with a hose to water the new trees. Despite my best efforts, a few plants in the garden have already died. Sundown does offer a six-month warranty on the plants and trees they install, but I don't know if that includes plants that die from inadequate watering. Trying to keep everything hydrated has been a huge challenge and very time-consuming, and I'm very worried about what is going to happen when we are out of town next week. Overall we are very happy with Sundown Landscaping and would hire them again in a heartbeat, but I do wish we had received better instructions about the timing and coordination of the changes we would need to have made to our irrigation system. For now I'm just hoping for cooler weather and some rain!

Barb first came out to talk about what I'd like done. She is the Landscape Designer and is great. Took my vision and walked me through her ideas too and drew up a detailed design plan. This is not free, which I knew out of the gate and they told me ahead of time. But if you hire Sundown you get part of the design fee back on the final bill. Her drawings promptly came and we walked through them again. Unfortunately, the weather turned cold before they could get started but they kept me up-to-date throughout the process. I got a call towards the end of January when we had a stretch of warmer weather and they wanted to remove the old landscaping and install the edging and lighting to take advantage of the weather. They arrived exactly when they said. Jeff was the foreman and was a pleasure to work with. I've never seen such a large crew working on just one house. They were done in 3 days and cleaned everything up exactly like I hoped. Even sprayed any mud and debris off the street. Then the weather turned cold again and we waited to plant. However, even with no plants I had so many people tell me how much they loved the edging and lighting. The lighting made such a big difference all around my home. When the mailman stops and tells you how much he loved the edging, you know it must look nice! In addition, they secure the edging with cement so there won't be the problem of stones moving like you can frequently see. Dave, the owner, and Barb kept me updated on a time frame of planting. We had a cold Spring so the plants just got planted the beginning of May. Dave, who is also great to work with, goes out and personally picks out the plants and trees and he seems to be very particular about what he chooses. Again, a large crew arrived when they said and did a great job of cleaning up. Everything looks great!! I had a large job and I knew it would be expensive. Sundown may be more expensive than other landscape companies but in this case I think it was well worth it. Also, I was able to use the Angie's List coupon. Angie's List is how I found out about Sundown Landscaping. I am going to have them come back in the Fall and plant an additional tree in my backyard and I will set them up to do maintenance on my beds and plants.

Excellent! The owner meet with me to review my ideas and expectations, provided a bid and scheduled the work. The crew showed up on time and cleaned up after themselves. I aam very pleased with the outcome and will use sundown again.

Excellent. As usual, Sundown sent an experienced crew at the time and date promised. They worked skillfully and continuously, completing the job in less than a full day.

Awesome! They did an even better job than I expected. They did things in a timely manner. The work was excellent. The crew was very knowledgeable. Overall, they could not have done better.

The job went very smoothly. It was well planned and scheduled by Dave after he took several hours meeting with us to determine our preferences and present options, which culminated in a professionally prepared plan. The crew was always on time, very cooperative, and willing to accommodate our requests for modifications as the project proceeded. You could see not only how much the laborers liked their work, but how they enjoyed working with each other to create a finished product that they were all proud of. What made the project so easy on us was Sundown's timeliness, flexibility and its assistance in coordinating the required ancillary services for us in advance, from utility inspections to sprinkler system modification. We feel that we paid a reasonable price for an excellent job that was done very professionally. We look forward to working with Sundown again.

It was great working with Dave and Sundown Landscape. We consulted several contractors and Sundown had the best plan by far that incorporated all our wishes. They took the time to consider what would work best instead of just offering a generic plan. Mike and his crew were very professional and friendly. We even ran into some unforeseen problems and they took care of it and went above and beyond. Recommend highly.

We are very happy with our new landscaping. Everything went smoothly and was done efficiently and professionally. All of our questions and requests were readily answered by Barb (landscape designer) and Mike and his crew. The prep for the project was done in essentially one day (two half days) and the planting was done later when it was cooler and took one day. This is a very professional company and we would rank them at the top.

Pretty large project and it was finished in two days. Dave and his crew led by Jeff did fantastic work. They were on time (even started a day early after a phone call to get our ok). Everyone was professional, courteous, hard working, and had no problem with questions or suggestions. We couldn't be more pleased and wish we could give higher than an A grade. We will definitely use Sundown again if the need arises and do not hesitate to recommend this quality team..

We couldn't be happier with the outcome. It's overwhelming when you look at your yard and think about everything that has to be done before you can even begin planting trees, shrubs and flowers. We now have a perfectly landscaped yard that is like a blank canvas ready for planting. Dave and his crew couldn't have been more professional. An estimate was given, Dave came by the first day with the crew and explained everything that needed to be done, when the crew left at the end of the day everything was cleaned up and work was done just to our specifications. This was such a good investment for our property.

Sundown Landscaping takes care of my property from spring cleanup onwards. They are incredibly professional, prompt, unfailingly polite, and do an awesome job. They may be a little higher priced but worth every penny.

Everything went well and everyone I was in contact with was pleasant and patient. I was really impressed each time I spoke with someone from their team. They have the expertise that I lack and I trusted their recommendations.

The owner gave met with me to design a plan we went back and forth on options and he sent over a proposal the same week. I accepted , then the job was completed within a week. great follow up on how to care for trees as well.
