This is a father/son business. The father does plumbing, the son carpentry. Son was hired to install a pedestal sink and build book shelves in living room. He installed the sink(it took him 6 hours!) Had to return a few days later because the sink leaked. Three weeks later he returned to build the shelves. Didn't show up when he said he would, talked on his cell phone most of the time. Left the job off and on all day. Was very SLOW getting the job done...but he didn't finish the job. We were notified on the second day that he was not returning to finish. That the job was taking him too long and he was losing money staying to finish it. The father seems like an honest, hard working person...but the son is not anyone I would recommend to anyone or consider using again under any circumstance.
Description of Work: After an estimate, hired to build book shelves in living room and install a pedestal sink.

Response from DesignBilt
This costumer had taken a friendly gesture and proceeded to ruin it. Customer was new to town and we meet because of his dog (a wonderful and sweet animal). Feeling generous, I offered to work after hours (6 pm - 11 pm) to install a vanity sink at a price that hardly covered material. I was hovered over the entire time, and conversation was non stop, hence the extended duration of the installation. A small leak did occur, and was remedied without delay. I had alerted this customer that I was interested in expanding my knowledge and skills and was eager to do so with his vanity. The customer appreciated my desire to learn, and was reassured by my father being only a phone call and walking distance away. I bid the job to basically cover material, with the experience being my profit. The customer seemed happy and understanding with the work and the time it took do complete. Not a hint of annoyance was detected, rather gratitude for the immediate service and friendly conversation. I came back later to build two small matching bookcases, having felt that a friendship had developed, I priced the project to cover material and slashed my labor to next to nothing. I was met with some hostility and the sense that I was a burden just as soon as I walked in. The cases were coming along well and in timely fashion, when lunch came around I was made to feel that I was not moving fast enough and was becoming a bother to the customer. Upon returning from lunch the customer made a few snide and (at least I felt) unprovoked comments. Realizing that my good deed was not being appreciated and knowing that I had other clients and projects that were pushed back to suit this customers schedule (He was aware of my schedule shuffling for his behalf), I cleaned up, packed my tools, returned via check on the spot every penny he had given my for both the sink and casework. As he noticed that I was leaving he asked about yet another plumbing task that was to be tackled by my father the next day, I said that he will be there as promised. He showed up as scheduled, completed the plumbing task and left. I was mistaken thinking that I was doing a favor for a new friend, and welcoming someone to our neighborhood (we live in the same neighborhood), but I was taken advantage of, and now seeing his post (under his sister's name) I just feel that no good deed goes unpunished.
