Beware hiring Artistic Concrete Staining & Engraving, LLC out of Springfield, MO! The “seal system” that he uses is not as durable as he claims. During the application process I was pleased with the way the floor was looking. To be fair, the actual stain does look good. My problem lies with the sealer and Jesse Mach’s poor customer service. Definitely do not pay him the remainder of balance due until you have actually walked on it for day or two to know if you will experience the problems that we are facing. Initially the floor looked good. We waited 48 hours before walking lightly on it to see the entire floor and at that time we noticed that he had splattered stain all over the lower third of the walls. Our house was still uninhabitable due to the smell of the sealer so we gave the floor 72 hours before really walking on it. We started to notice that our two dogs were leaving paw pad prints all over the floor so I called Mr. Mach and left a message asking him to return my call. A few hours later he texted me that I should try to “buff’ the marks out with a clean cotton cloth. I tried his recommendation that evening with no luck, it actually scratched the sealer even worse. I texted Mr. Mach some pictures of the scratched floor but the marks don’t show up well in photos. Basically, he accused me of having done something to mess up the sealer via text and then told me that I should try rubbing the marks with acetone to see if they would go away. I was starting to get aggravated as his texts were very hostile but tried his second suggestion. The acetone did remove the marks, but as soon as myself and my dogs started walking on it their pads and our shoes continued to scratch the floor. At this point I texted Mr. Mach that the acetone had worked but not permanently. I asked him to give me the name of the product that he used so I could possibly wax the floor as many stained concrete experts say should be done. He refused to give me the name and said that waxing the floor would be a mistake even though his website says that two coats of wax is part of his service. After a few more hostile texts we agreed to a time the following week for him to come look at the floor in person. To his credit, once he saw the floor he realized that there was something wrong. He thought that maybe the house was too cold for the product to fully cure. So he agreed to sand the sealer down and reseal it. To be safe he suggested that we leave the heat set in the low seventies and keep the dogs off the floor for seven days and for us to keep off for 72 hours. After following his directions for the week I let my dogs in and within a few minutes their pad prints and our footprints started showing up on the sealer again. I have tried to contact Mr. Mach several times but he has not responded. So now I have a $1500 floor that looks horrible and Artistic Concrete is not standing behind their products or services. In fact, I asked him to give the name of the product a second time so that I can try to fix this myself but he refuses to give me the information. All in all, I’m very disappointed in the shoddy work, bad products, and horrible customer service that Artistic Concrete Staining & Engraving has provided me. I would like to get one third of the cost for this work refunded and the name of the sealing product that he used, but I won’t hold my breath.

Weather was an issue throughout this project, so it took longer than either of us would have liked. Jesse Mach is a true artist! I really didn't have clear ideas about what I wanted, but he assured me that with a few details of input from me he could create something that would work. My initial intention was to have the drive stained as well, but the concrete turned out to be in such a degraded condition that it would have been a waste of my money to simply stain it; it would be only a few years and the continuing wearing away of the original surface would have compromised the staining and etching. So I decided to have it epoxied instead; it was a good call, as it turned out to be a beautiful and sturdy surface that has stopped the deterioration as well. Sanding off the existing surface of the porch was a major job. But Jesse got it all prepped and ready for the staining. The results exceeded my expectations. The concrete was of poor quality and not in the best condition, so it was not an easy task to get it cleaned up.Some of the details that impressed me about this business: they never left a mess of equipment and product laying around; everything was cleaned up at the end of each day. Jesse is flexible, and it was easy to make changes in design/color as we went along. The warranty on the work and product is fair. If the weather was not going to cooperate, Jesse just rescheduled. He has no hesitation about showing up at any time of night or day in order to make certain the weather/wind/rain is not going to impinge on the quality of his work. He is personable, forthright, and honest. My contract with him was fulfilled as agreed upon. It was a time-consuming event for both of us, but one I would do again. The results have added pop to all the concrete on the property, and people always comment on it when they see it for the first time. The drive even has colored chips in it that sparkle in the sun and at night under a full moon it looks like the stars have fallen and landed on the drive! Waaay cool!
Description of Work: Cleaned and stained and etched concrete on porch and sidewalk. Epoxied the drive.

Wasn't able to deliver what he promised. Jesse, told us a story of a lady that insisted on filling the divots with concrete, even though he told her that it wouldn't look right with the stain. After it was finished, he stated she apologized and wished she hadn't filled the holes, but instead relied on his opinion, that his sealer system would fill the holes just like concrete but the keep the color consistency. Well after that story, we decided to listen and use his expertise, and not fill the divots with concrete and allow him to fill them with his sealer system.. The bottom line is that he didn't do what he promised he could. There are still multiple divots throughout our floor, and he won't even come back to finish the job and go over the inconsistencies. We are really looking for a solution, but all Jesse wants to do is demand payment for an unfinished job with unsatisfied clients. We are still waiting for him to finish the job, and we will gladly pay. We have been uprooted from our family room for over threeweeks and we aren't any closer to getting a resolution. I wish, I had checked the BBB rating first. His rating is an F. After over a month, he finally decided to arrange a time to fix his work. The Bottom line is even after the work is complete, it still looks very amateur and not something I would pay for. I would not recommend hiring this company or Jesse Mach.

Response from Artistic Concrete Staining & Engraving LLC
What I inherited on this project was a homeowner that was in the middle of a DIY project that called in help. As I do with all of my customers, I told him what his choices were with regard to the divots left by the carpet tack strips. He chose to not fill them and let the penetrating seal system fill them to the extent possible. He did not say anything after finishing the first half of what became a two phase project, dividing the floor in two halves right down the middle. Upon finishing the second half just as I did the first half and ready to collect the balance on the project, he then said he did not like the outcome with the divots on either half of the floor. I have been doing this many years and know when a customer, given all the information in the beginning and allowing them to make an educated decision, is then trying to delay, receive a discount, or get out of paying altogether at the conclusion of the work. That was the case here. Even after sanding the floor, filing the divots additionally, and then resealing the floor again, he hesitated paying even with the floor being what he was asking for initially upon refusal to pay. If there were a "do not work for" list of homeowners to avoid, he would be on it.

Jesse did a great job and it's very punctual. this is the third time we call him to do something for us and we are thinking in doing 3 small areas, they look great. Epoxy is a little expensive but it's worth it, it's durable and looks great, clean, it changed our garage 100%. He takes the time to show you the colors and explain the steps and options. He has great follow-up to make sure you are satisfied with the work. He cleans up when he is done and he's very responsive. Our garage looks great. A few neighbors had used him too.
Description of Work: Jesse sealed our grage floor with epoxy. They also stained our concrete back porch.
