It went very well. He was here pretty promptly. He did a couple of extra things for us besides what the big deal was. Price was good. He was right on time.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal for Mr. Electric of Clay County. They provided electrical services. We had a couple of outlets put in outside.

A few months ago, I called Mr. Electric to come out to assess/fix a problem where my pool pump went out. I called them based on Angie's List reviews and long-term familiarity of their name. Zach determined the problem and we discussed options. At that time, I determined that I wanted a dedicated exterior line for my pool pump. We came up with a interim solution until I had some previously-planned landscaping done that would help bury/hide the new line that would be run. Once the landscaping was done (a couple of months later), I called Mr. Electric back out. Since it had been awhile, Billy came back out to review what was needed. Then, Mark came a few days later to run the line. Billy was here to help him part of the time (as part of the work was done in a crawlspace and Billy handed tools in to Mark). Everyone that I dealt with, from scheduler to laborers, were friendly, easy to work with, and arrived when they said they would. I thought that pricing was fair and I have already recommended them to family.
Description of Work: Installed a dedicated, exterior line for my pool pump.

The service person who arrived, seemed to be baffled by what I needed. ( there was an outlet on either side of the fireplace. It seemed very straight forward, as electrical jobs go. It took him 2 1/2 hours to complete. He didn't seem like he knew what he was doing.
Description of Work: I needed an outlet above my fireplace, so I could hang my tv.

It did take 2 trips, but considering what they had to deal with I was not surprised. I was quite pleased with Randy who went the extra mile to make sure that I was satisfied.
Description of Work: Main 100 amp panel replacement, surge protector, and new grounding rod. Also I had them install a Reliance 6 breaker power transfer kit with an exterior outlet for my portable generator.

Price below did not include a new thermostat. My husband took off work to have all 3 things listed above done. Was told that they would arrive between 8:00-10:00am. Received a call said that the previous job was taking longer than expected but they would be there this afternoon. My husband called around 12:15 to see how much longer because he had other things to do. The female said let me look through the folders and at some point my husband says, let me just come down there. When there, she pulls up the paper, which clearly says that we are having an attic fan installed, and my husband asked her what time are they going to get to our house, she says around 3:00pm. My husband then says, well if they don't get to my house until 3pm, is that going to be enough time to frame it in and get it installed. AND he then asked do you have the attic fan. She said no, it did not get ordered. So, my husband lost a vacation day by taking the entire day off for no work. When I called letting them know how frustrated I was, the female starts telling me how an electrician that worked with them for 14 years left and decided to do something else, .... NEVER did I hear any type of empathy or hear an I'M SORRY. I told her for a first time customer this is not leaving a good impression. I asked her at what point did you realize you never even ordered the attic fan. The answer "when my husband asked." So.... here are my points 1) Things happen and we get that, but..... there should be a process within the office that allows the remaining company to know what outstanding bids/jobs exist when an employee quits. 2) If you are going out on a call and you know it was someone else who did the bid who has quit, then you should be calling your customer before the scheduled date to CONFIRM the work that is scheduled to be done. 3) The female apparently was trying to tell my husband she was away sick or something and someone else did x,y, z etc... so that's why she didn't see it, know about it, etc... 4) For customer service, her business issues should not be transferred down to the customer that gets the brunt of it. Establish processes in place to ensure you know what outstanding bids/work need to be done.... I have no idea why we were told 8a-10a arrival only to really be 3p before they could get to my house. 5) A little empathy in her voice or an I'm Sorry, would have made all the difference in me writing this note. However, what I understand to be happening on the other end was she is probably stating to other's in the office what a B---- I am. I must say, I never raised my voice, cussed or called anyone names. I stated my frustration. The IMPRESSION I got was look lady, we had issues that were not our fault, I can't help it your frustrated. After all she rebutted to me that they offered to come later this week. I said, yeah, for my husband to have to take a 2nd vacation day. And now for the finality of this story. I asked her on the phone if there could be some type of discount for the inconvenience they have now caused. She said initially no, but that she would have to ask. I said, "I would appreciate it if you would ask your boss that question and have your boss call me back with that answer." Then, SHE calls me back, not the boss, but the female again and she NEVER says anything about the discount I asked, she immediately begins telling me that they are just now going over our invoice and guess what.... they don't now where the electrician got the pricing for the attic fan because..... the bid that we were given isn't even accurate, the cost was more expensive.... So, when she took her breath, silence for a moment from both of us and then I said, "so what are you telling me", she said well, the invoices are only good for 30 days and our invoice was > 30 days so if we could have acted sooner, then perhaps they could find maybe where that electrician got that type of pricing but she says she has "no idea" where he got that price to quote it because it was way cheaper than anything they can get for cost.....The female never did come across empathetic or even say "Well I checked into it and I'm so sorry we have already discounted it as much as we could by the original bid price....." instead, what she was indicating to me, not only did we mismanage our time estimate to complete projects, string you along all day to tie up your day that you used a vacation day only to get no work done because we A) did not even know before we got to your house the day of your scheduled work that we were to install an attic fan and, B) , we didn't even order a fan..... That's the problem, they didn't even know what work they were coming to our house to complete!!! and C) By the way, if you want us to do the work for you, your bid price has just now increased!!! I'm truly sorry to have to write this but... had there have been more empathy over the phone, this email would have NEVER been written.

Response from Mr. Electric of Kansas City
When husband came into the shop to book the 8/29 appointment he spoke about needing to look at resizing for an attic fan and timer installation so we booked for a quote appointment. That day we were running late on our first call and called to inform the customer. During the next call he noted that he didn't even have a quote yet and it was then he said a technician out over a month ago. I pulled it from our files and he stopped by to pick it up. It was at that time the customer was informed that a former employee had quoted the job and we needed to locate/pickup/order the attic fan and the job wouldn't be able to be done that day. A calm and simple discussion about the misunderstanding took place, he booked an appointment further out, and we started to look for the quoted attic fan described on the prior quote. The wife then called just a little bit later. She thoroughly scolded us explained all the points listed in her review (incl. that there was nothing I could do to make it better because of her husband taking off work, that we are an un-reputable company and she wished she'd had looked us up online to see if we were legit, and that she wanted me to check with the owner and call her back and give her a discount or she'll do a bad review). Our company discussed the ultimatum by the wife. We called her back that same day and stated there were several issues we needed to address. (1) Our supply house was still working on finding the equivalent attic fan originally quoted with that size and warranty (2) The quote was already so severely discounted that we couldn't give more of a discount and (3) Because of the prior issues we were upholding that quote was no longer valid being over 30 days old. Wife then cancelled the future scheduled appointment on Sept 8th and immediately posted her review on multiple review sites the same day.

Mark was my service technician and he was fantastic! It was very easy to get ahold of Mr. Electric of Kansas City Northland (new name) and very easy to schedule an appointment. Out of the 4 or 5 bids I had out for this project they were easily the most cost effective option (By about $1000) in addition to being the least "sales-y". We did have a snaffoo when it came to confirming the date/time of appointment. I was unable to get ahold of their receptionist or anyone with the company for the three days preceding my appointment so that was nerve-racking. However, Mark called me the afternoon before and we confirmed everything. Between two days of working in the hot weather- my panel looks great and he was an awesome service provider. I would whole-heartedly recommend them. As a younger single female homeowner I deal with a lot of BS when it comes to getting project bids but this company is completely different. I'm very happy. Thanks Mr. Electric of Kansas City Northland!

Just bought a house and there were some electrical items that needed to be checked out. Zach came out and checked all the items on the list. He quickly figured out why some of the lights were not working and why some of the switches were not operating properly. Fixed all four items quickly and then provided some advice on some potential electrical work on some future projects. It was great service from an extremely competent individual. Would recommend the service to others.

We used Mr. Electric through an Angie's List Deal, we purchased last winter. We first scheduled to use the Deal back in February, but set aside that project when we had to leave town. When we found that we needed outlets in a different area in our garage following the installation of two brand new side mount garage doors, this week, the 2 Hour Deal was perfect for that. Every time I talked to Mr. Electric on the phone, both in February and this week, Deborah was extremely helpful and cheerful about questions, trying to work out the best times, and flexible with changes. Mark came out yesterday and was very professional, courteous, and attentive to every detail, and very knowledgeable about what needed to be done, according to code and what would work best. I was very pleased with the work and feel that the folks at Mr. Electric are very nice and trustworthy. - Mark

It went awesome. If only all contractors operated in such a friendly and professional manner. So glad to know they are close by and we can become life-long customers. I believe Mark came out and he was amazing. He took 20+ minutes out of the 2 hour time we were paying for to listen to our concerns and walk through the house looking at other to-do's. He was very knowledgeable and efficient. We can't recommend their service enough especially if you are up north in Clay county or Northern Jackson.
Description of Work: He installed two chandeliers, one old and needed some work. One newer. He looked over various other jobs we are considering around the house and gave his opinion. We needed a part for the old chandelier that should have been there. It wasn't, and he found one in his truck so we didn't have to go to the hardware store.

Punctual service, called me to tell me he would arrive in 30 minutes and he did arrive on time. They do not charge hourly rates. Cost is based on set fees for the jobs performed. I was given a complete estimate to approve before work was done. I think the total time the electrician was working was maybe 2 hours, so $232 which included parts seemed reasonable. The $232 was after the 10% Angie's List discount was deducted. Mark was very professional and honest with me in explaining that he could move the plug for my kitchen range from the floor to the wall, but due to the design of the range it still wouldn't allow the range to be pushed in to be completely flush with the counter. I did have him go ahead and perform the work and he was correct it still sticks out about 1/2 inch, but improvement over previous condition. I appreciated his honesty! I will not hesitate to call Mr Electric of Clay County again if I need and electrical work performed!

A ceiling fan was showing electrical wiring. Turns out the cover had come loose and slid down. Easy fix. The main breaker box was not properly grounded to the ground bus. Mark replaced a missing screw and grounded the box. A whole house fan needed a junction box and that was corrected. The kitchen did not have any GFCI outlets. At first, it was thought 1 would be OK but after Mark checked the wiring (4 outlets above counter), it was determined I would need 2. I had contacted Mr Electric that morning and they said they would put me on the list for end of that day. I got a call when they were ready to head my way and I was able to leave work and meet with Mark. I had expected only an estimate but Mark was able to do the work then and it took about an hour. I was very happy with the timeliness and expertise of the work. Mark was courteous and professional.

On Tuesday I was searching on Angie's List for an electrician to do this work for me. I submitted a request for a quote to Mr. Electric and less than an hour later Deborah called me and said that someone could be out later that day to give an estimate. That afternoon Zach showed up, spent a little time checking things out, asking some questions and then wrote me a quote for the work. He apologized at first, saying that he could probably do the job right then except that he didn't have his tall ladder on the truck that would reach this height. As I wasn't expecting the work to be done then I told him that was no problem at all. He said he could be back before noon on Friday and get it all done in just a couple of hours. True to his word, he called me about 11:10 and said he'd be at my house in 25-30 minutes. About 20 minutes later he was here. He completed the job in just over 2 hours, and did an OUTSTANDING job for us. He had such a great attitude and personality. While I'm sure that all of the rest of the team at Mr. E are just as good, I'll be asking for Zach next time we need anything done. Very impressed with everyone that I spoke with at Mr. Electric and I will HIGHLY recommend them to anyone needing any work done. Great company, Great people, Great work, Great job.
