They installed the unit April 2010. March 2011 the unit was not cooling, they came out and found the freon had leaked out. They checked the unit and found no leaks. They replaced the freon with no charge under warranty. The next winter November 2011 the fan motor burned out and they temporary replaced the motor with one that worked but was not the same type of motor because he did not have one available. He was going to come back with the proper one later. No bill was sent at that time. They never came back with the correct motor. April 2013 the unit quit cooling again. They came out and found no freon in the system. He tested for leaks and initially found no leaks. He retested the unit again and found a leak on the pressure side inside the condensor unit. He had to braise two copper pipes inside the unit and then recharge the freon. They stated the work was not warranty work because of the time lapse and also because the leak was inside the unit their warranty only covered piping they installed from the unit into the house. The unit manufacturer warranty only covers replacement of parts. The bill charged for: Two service trips at $70 each total $140. Two mileage trip charges 60 miles @ $2 per mile total $120 Extra hours of work in addition to service call 5 hours @ $50 per hour total $250 Freon 15 lbs @ $20 per lb total $300 Sales tax 8.1% 24.30 Total bill $834.30 Our position is if they had tested for leaks properly the first time everything would be covered under warrenty.
