Description of Work: New Home Construction

Description of Work: We have used this contractor in the past to build our house and later install a concrete driveway. We contracted him to finish our basement, but everytime we picked out items such as faucets, he told us the cost was going to be higher than he originally bid. He tried to use mismatched wood on the landing of the stairs. The bid to do the spa shower was $8000, but he tried to charge $12000 even after we selected from the materials he told us were within our bid. We didn't get cabinets that were originally bid, nor did they install the bookcase door. After telling me he would try to do the bookcase door, he later backed out of it because he didn't know how to do it. After my husband objected to the costs, the crew threw together the base trim without pushing it down and nailing it. This contractor forgot details such as molding and wanted to install it "after the fact," so I had to forget it because it wouldn't look right. We told him from the beginning we did not want to do any work ourselves and wanted medium grade materials. We ended up spending our own money outside of the loan, my husband did much of the work and we had to pay extra for our medium grade materials because he intended to get by with the cheap stuff. Beware of the low bid and make sure everything is outlined in writing to the very last detail. We fired this contractor and STILL don't have a bookcase door. What a BAD experience.
