We needed to address leaks in our basement. The contractor suspected that the floor tiles had asbestos and said we needed to check that out before he could begin work. The tiles had been there more than 50 years. A sample tested positive and I contacted Wellington Environmental, The tiles and mastic were removed in about five hours. After they cleaned up, the floor did not look as if it ever had floor tiles glued to it.

A really young guy came with an equipment that could look behind the walls, but he didn't look professional to me, and he didn't seem like he had that much experience, he just used the equipment. I was impressed with the equipment, but I had to get a second opinion because of the amount. I called them because there was mold in the walls, and from the TV shows that I had seen, it was a serious problem, and it had to be taken care of. I called other guys who said that it didn't seem like a big enough job. These guys came out and looked at it. When you come out and give me a super price, they were only guessing what the problem was, and I had someone else come in and do it for $150.
Description of Work: I had some mold growing, and they told me it would cost me a couple thousand dollars to remove the mold, and to put the walls back, and told me it was another couple thousand dollars, so it was going to cost me $4000 for that, and then I got someone else who did everything and charged me $150.

This is not us, both of us that respond to mold calls are near 60 years old. I know what company you are getting us mixed up with. Their people are all very young. This hurts us when an incorrect entry is made. We give honest answers and respect your time. Please correct.

I sent this contractor a message through Angie's List on 3.4.14 and I have not heard any response as of 3.27.14. Usually contractors on Angies List are very responsive. This is the first non-response I've ever had. UPDATE- This contractor sent me a handwritten note to explain that he had difficulty with the Angies system. I appreciated the note and will reach out to him when we decide to move forward with the work.

We are fairly new to Angie's list and I do not know how to get email directly from them (I am not very good at some computer things). ABSOLUTELY GREAT! Wellington's price was over $100 less than a local home improvement warehouse/store. I was impressed and relieved by how well the whole process was carried out. A call to Wellington is on my "to-do" list to schedule tile removal in another room.

We were very happy with the service provided. I called on Monday afternoon and they were able to send someone out to give us an estimate the next morning, which happened to be New Years Eve. We were having problems with our heating system and needed the asbestos insulation removed so the heating company could check the pipes for problems. The folks at Wellington were able to come out and complete the work on Friday. They were able to finish the job in the same day and everything was kept clean. I thought the price was very fair and everyone that I had contact with at the company was polite and professional. I'd recommend them to anyone needing asbestos removal.

Very mixed bag. The sample testing went well. Thom came and took the samples and had the tests done quickly and provided us with reports. He also sent us a contract with several options for what they could do (moving furniture, removing carpet from stairs if there were tiles there, etc.). That part all worked well. Once we accepted the contract, however, things got miserable. I called to ask when the work could be done before signing the contract, because I wanted to coordinate with the carpet and tile folks that were going to come and lay the new flooring once the asbestos tile was gone. I was told by phone that the next two weeks were busy, but could likely be worked in after than. This was late on a Friday. So I signed the contract and sent it back Monday morning asking for one of two days two weeks out (past the date I was told they were tied up). I was then contacted by the office manager (I can't remember her name now; I've blocked it out) and told that they were busy that week, too, but would be doing scheduling later that week. I didn't hear back later that week, so I called to ask when we were going to be scheduled. I got an annoyed response that they hadn't done the scheduling yet, but it would be two weeks out. Then more days of hearing nothing, so I called again, only to be told they hadn't done any scheduling and it would be another two weeks before they could schedule me. So I wrote back to the owner (Thom) and rescinded the contract. The price was fine, but the miserable time trying to get on the schedule made me doubt the attention to detail that they would follow when they were in our house removing asbestos from our basement. While I was lining up another provider (the second one never gave us a contract, even after promising one, and the third contractor never scheduled us -- even after I told them that I was having a miserable time getting scheduled with Wellington, but the fourth time was finally a charm!), and after I had already told them I was rescinding the acceptance of the contract, Wellington called back to say they could come the next day to take out the tiles. My cell phone cut out right after they said that they could come the next day, but they never called back to follow up. And since it was going to take 2 weeks to get the carpet ordered and installed, I wouldn't have wanted an unusable basement for 2 weeks. I'm guessing our job was too small to matter, so maybe if you have a really big job (piping insulation, furnace insulation and tile flooring) you'd get on the schedule. It befuddled me how hard it was to schedule us: you look at the calender, find the first empty date, and say, "We can come on XXX". If that is too far out for the customer, you offer to put them on a waiting list, or apologize and let them find a new provider. But to hang us on the hook for two weeks promising us to be scheduled but never following through, and sounding annoyed that we kept calling to ask to be scheduled, is inexcusable.

It went very well. They came out for the estimate the day after I called them. The estimate was $1800 which was very reasonable considering another estimate I received of $6500. The estimate was emailed to me the same day with a contract to sign. I signed it, got it back to them, and was contacted to make an appointment within a few days. The removal was scheduled for a week later at 8:00 AM. They showed up on time and were done before I got home from work. I am very satisfied with their promptness, professionalism, and price.

Thom Wellington came to my house to bid this job and was extremely nice. As a single mom with a child with health issues it was extremely important for me to have this insulation removed because an energy audit showed that the existing ductwork was not only leaking but that it was not working efficiently. This meant that in order to seal the ductwork or even replace it, we would have to disturb the vermiculite insulation. Thom did his very best to make the job affordable so that I could manage the job. He offered to take out the vermiculite and leave the fiberglass insulation that was on top to try to save me money on both the removal and on the cost to reinstall new insulation. Unfortunately, the 3rd party company that we used to do the air monitoring of the job did not like this idea so we decided to go with a full removal which did cost more than I would have liked but they did a wonderful job of removing it. They also were careful to cover up all of my furniture and carpet with plastic and installed all of the required safety precautions. We did have to stay in a hotel for 2 nights as the job took an entire 3 days... but I was very pleased with the work.

Contacted Wellington Environmental after our floor installers discovered what they believed to be asbestos tiles under the old carpet. All the tiles around the walls of the room were broken and they needed to come up before installing the wood flooring. Bill from Wellington arrived on time, was very professional and promised to put a rush on the lab test. He called back the next day with good news. Asbestos was not present in the tiles or adhesive and we could reschedule the floor installation. An official copy of the test results arrived in the mail three business days later.

The company removed asbestos tape from one place in my basement ductwork. They came in and gave me an estimate and the workman came on another day and performed the work in a timely manner. The only problem I had was that I wanted a reading of the air quality before the removal and afterward and they workman did not do that. I would use them again but put in writing what my expectations are and then pay them when those are completed.

A home inspection prior to purchase discovered mold on the wood ceiling of my unfinished basement (the wood is actually the floor joists and subfloor of the main living level). It wasn't considered a bad case of mold, but present throughout most of my basement. Wellington first came out for an inspection and to provide me with a cost estimate, at which time Bill provided me with an explanation of their work process and recommendations on how to control the humidity in the basement. He provided a verbal estimate soon after the inspection, but receiving the written estimate took longer than I thought it should (it was required in order to close on the home purchase). He was very prompt to revise the proposal to accommodate some clarification that I requested (I'm an engineer and "seasoned" at reviewing proposals and contracts). Wellington was able to schedule the mold remediation work within a week of me accepting the proposal. On the day of the mold remediation work, the crew was on-time, maybe even early. Bill was there to show his crew exactly what needed to be done. The crew was professional and took as much care as reasonably possible to keep my home clean (it had rained the night before, so they put plastic down on the carpet leading to my basement). It was nearly a full-day process, including some times with the crew outside doing nothing (this is expected, as the process involves waiting for some products sprayed in the basement to work - they were not "screwing off," and I was paying for the project and not by the hour anyway). During the process, the crew discovered a couple places in the basement that needed to be sealed, which they showed me the exact locations after they were done with the work - this was very helpful. They did a fairly good job cleaning up after they completed the work.

When we went to sell our house, during our pre-sales inspection we found spots of mold in our basement. Mold being a hot button with buyers, we decided to have Wellington Environmental come out and give us a bid to professionally clean and treat the areas. They came to the house and told us they could clean, treat and paint (with mold-resistent paint) the whole basement (500-700 sq ft) for $400. They came by and proceeded to work quickly and efficiently. Not only did we get any small mold issue taken care of but the paint they used is white and now our basement looks fantastic. I would definitely use this company again.

Probably fine for commercial work but maybe not for cleaning smoke from a home. Bill is great, his guys are friendly and good at some things, but they are not trained to be detailed-oriented enough for a home. Some things they did well, others not so much. With a few changes this could be a really good thing for homeowners desiring to rid their home of nicotene stains and odors. First let me note what was good. They did an excellent job on most walls and ceilings. They were polite and willing to please. They found some mice in our basement, which was a huge surprise, and they got rid of them for us. They were enjoyable people. However, Wellingon's guys jumped from one place in a room to another, missing complete areas and sometimes even complete rooms. They had to be reminded time and again to wipe down light fixtures, window moldings, sides of things, etc. All of the fancy HEPA filters and fog machines cannot take the place of a thorough, thoughtful cleaning. Even after we brought the problems to their attention and they redid some of the work, they were not thorough enough. A lot of nicotine was left behind. So we finally just finished the job ourselves because we were on a tight timeline. At one point when I had complained, Bill asked me to watch his guys because he didn't have time. That bothered me. So did a comment from the workers saying, "hey we're guys, we just don't see things the way women do". These comments were difficult to hear when we were paying over $3000 for what we thought was going to be very thorough work. Not sure of their duct work cleaning, it's hard to tell. We have changed filterss every two weeks since they left. Each time the filters are very dirty, despite their assurances that we would not have dust in the system after they cleaned. They told us they brushed dirt with a shop-vac from floor to floor instead of the customary process using a beater. Perhaps their way doesn't get all the dust? If I had a chance to make suggestions it would be to use all white rags so the workers can see if they are getting up nicotine. I would also strongly suggest that a checklist be compiled and followed for every room in a home. This list would be made ahead of time. Or, maybe stick with commercial work. We wish we could have given a better grade. I believe with a few changes Wellington could have a good business in home cleaning.
Description of Work: Purchased a home owned by an extensive smoker and also a cat owner so at the suggestion of a realtor called Wellington. Wellington came in to vacuum, clean off nicotene from walls, ceilings, floors and to rid the house of odors. They used a HEPA house air filter to clean the air. Used some sort of steam device with scent to rid the area behind the walls from smoke odor. Cleaned the ductwork.

Wellington had tested the piping and they were helpful and flexible in scheduling the work. There was some confusion about whether they were going to remove the old insulation or just encapsulate it. That is the only reason I'm giving them a B in one category. But they did step up and take care of it no questions asked. I believe we are going to use them to remove some additional asbestos, and think their prices seem very good.

After initially contacting Wellington on a Monday, I was promptly put in touch with Bill. We set up a time for the next day when he could come by to take a look at my bathroom and give me a quote. Bill was very friendly, professional, and prompt. He quoted me a number on the spot, which was in line with my (optimistic) expectations. Later that day, he called to schedule the abatement for Friday, knowing that I preferred to have the service performed before the weekend. Bill later called to politely ask if the abatement could be moved up to Thursday, which worked out well for me. When the scheduled service time came around, Willy and Mike arrived right on time. They quickly went to work removing the duct from the wall. They were finished after about only 2 1/2 hours. Afterwards, Willy explained to me all of the (many) precautions they took to prevent the asbestos from getting into the air and he retrieved an air sample to confirm this. They left the workspace cleaner than it was before they arrived, and took great care to clean any surface that asbestos fibers may have settled onto. Overall, the service was completed less than 3 days after contacting them. They exceeded or met my expectation on all points. Highly recommended.

We hired Wellington to remove a small amount of asbestos wall board in the basement. I called the first time on a Wednesday or a Thursday. Thom came out to have a first look on Monday. He came after work hours, greatly increasing the convenience for me. We got the estimate on Tuesday, and called to schedule on Wednesday. The work was scheduled for the next Monday. In the meantime, I called Thom on his cell phone to clarify something about the work to be performed, which he answered and made sure the crew did as I asked. The work crew was right on time and they were in and out in the half day that was estimated. We have no complaints and wish we'd done it right after we bought the house.

It went very well. The owner Thom came out to give us the quote and was very courteous and professional. He was very willing to answer all of our questions and was very patient. On the day that the work was performed the workers showed up and Thom even dropped by to check on everything. They were very open to my input about how to seal off the work area and did air sampling during and after the removal to show that there wasn't any asbestos in the air. They did an excellent job removing the tile with none left and only very minor damage to the baseboards which will likely just take a little touch-up paint.

We took two samples of tile to Wellington to have them quickly test it for asbestos. Within a few days, we had the results back and both tiles had 5-10% asbestos in them. At our request, they had also sent us 2 estimates to remove the both tiles. (Estimates were good for 60 days.) A couple months later, we called them to see if the estimates were still good and if someone could give us an estimate to cleaned he air ducts as well. After some phone calls back and forth, Thom came out to look at the basement. After two weeks, I had to call to ask for the estimate. They faxed it to us that day. We decided to do the work. I called them to schedule, and they informed me that they could not schedule anything until they had the signed contracts back. So I faxed them in, and called them back. They called me back the next day (a Friday) and asked if they could come the next Monday (they had a cancellation). Yes! They came the next day (20 minutes late, but I can deal with that). It was a group of 4 men who completed the work with Matt in charge. They sealed the doorways and told me they would seal the vents, furnace, and refrigerator downstairs. The doorway didn't look very sealed to me (very open at the bottom), but they're the professionals. It took them two days to remove the tile and mastic (glue). The process to remove the mastic smelled STRONGLY of dishwasher detergent, and it took about a week for it to fully dissipate from the basement. The tile & mastic in the basement was gone. The basement looked good except for the water sprays on the wall paneling. I told them I was planning to remove the paneling in a few years, so it was not a big deal. There are still sticky spots in a few places, but majority of concrete is very smooth. They were supposed to come back the next day at 8 AM to clean the air ducts. That morning, I received a phone 35 minutes after they were supposed to be there. They had an emergency and couldn't come that day, so we rescheduled for Friday. Friday came, and no one showed up. I called at 4 PM to reschedule. We rescheduled for the following Wednesday. Wednesday came, and no one had shown up by 8:8:45 AM. So, I called to reschedule again. We rescheduled for Friday. They came at 8:8:20 AM. They were done by the time I got home at 11:30 AM.

Charlie arrived on time and viewed the work area. He was very professional and friendly. He brought in all the equipment needed to do the job and got down to work. The area was sealed off from the rest of the basement and the pipes were covered by the glove bags. An air filter was brought in and vented to the outside. When I checked later, he was cleaning up. The work was done. I was very satisfied with the way the asbestos was removed.

We originally got an estimate at the end of April from Thom Wellington, after they tested the tile and determined that it did have a portion of asbestos in its make up,for this part of the basement and the larger finished section. In late October we decided to just have the laundry side tile floor removed. It took quite a while to get a mutually agreeable date to do the work because they said they were very busy in the last quarter of the year. The crew came on time, sealed off the work area and set to the job. We are satisfied with the results and the cost. They followed standard practice in removing the hazardous material and keeping the work site safe for us to use the house while they worked.
Description of Work: Wellington sent a crew of 2 to remove the 70 year old tile from the laundry side of of basement floor. It took about 6 1/2 hours for them to prep, remove the tile and old mastic, and clean up. They also moved our heavy front loading washing machine within the work area as it wouldn't fit through the doorway to the finished part of the basement. We had removed everything else from the room.

I made the appointment for him to come out and give us an estimate. My husband met with him and mentioned that he was very professional and helpful while he was there. He was on time. He was promised to send the estimate that night and we never received it from him or any further communication. We went with another company.
Description of Work: Thom came out to give an estimate for damage on a dining room ceiling. The ceiling had drywall on top of plaster and there was substantial mold cause by a leaky second floor bathroom.
