Val's Tree Service

Untrustworthy owner and terrible professionalism. My neighbor called to have work done in their backyard. While performing that work, Val's tree service damaged several pieces of my property. I asked the site supervisor what had happened and he told me that there was nothing he could do about it and that I would need to contact the business's owner. The owner gave me a whole assortment of excuses and then apologized saying he promised that he would make it right and pay for the damages the very next day. It has been over a week now and I have recieved no communications from him and more importantly NO PAYMENT for the damages. I would absolutely never hire this company for anything. The owner is a liar and has no integrity as a professional business.

This company hires extremely racist workers who are unbelievably rude to their customer's neighbors and have zero respect for their property. They are unprofessional and have no work ethic. My neighbor was getting their tree removed today, and two of the crew that showed up were named Roy Garrett Sr. and Roy Garrett Jr. Throughout the course of their work, they had to get into my backyard, and although we were not previously told that this work would be happening, we let them in without a word of protest. After a while, my mom saw one of their younger workers shaking the backyard fence really hard to see if it was strong enough to hold his weight when he propelled himself over it. In addition to being concerned about the fence, she was also worried about his safety, so she went outside to tell him not to do that. That's when all the insults started. Roy Sr. yelled extremely racist, sexist, and derogatory things at us. We are of Asian descent, and Roy Sr. called us "Ch*nk" multiple times. He was also cussing continuously at us, yelling things like, "shut the f*ck up," "Do you read?" (um, yes, I'm getting two graduate medical degrees), "You don't have a husband," "go f*ck yourself," etc., etc. He also taunted us by saying, "Well, call the police, why don't you? You don't speak English." (Um, yes, I do.) He wouldn't allow us to talk either. He would turn on the electric saw whenever we started talking to him to block our voices out. When I asked Roy Jr. for the company's name and contact information, he ignored me, and then Roy Sr. shouted that I could find that info on their truck outside. I went outside, and walked all the way around their truck, but there was no contact info. They were clearly having a laugh at my expense, and when I went back to confront them, Roy Sr. taunted, "Well, you don't read." They continued taunting us constantly, and I felt so threatened by them that I called the cops, who kindly obtained their company info for me and gave it to me. When the cops showed up, it was "Yes, Sir," "Of course, Sir," and all manners of politeness to the policemen. The police asked them to get the owner of the company to swing by, and when Val dropped by, he apologized very haphazardly because the police were standing right there. But he made tons of excuses for Roy Sr. and Roy Jr. He said Roy Sr. was cranky because he had twisted his foot. So in Val's book, twisting your foot and being cranky is a legitimate excuse for telling your customers' neighbors to "shut the f*ck up," "go f*ck yourself," and call them "ch*nk." Val never even asked his workers to apologize to us. Of course, there was visible damage done to the fence. The fence panel had been pulled loose from all that pulling and pushing. Val first wanted to deny that there was damage ("The fence is old," he said), but I insisted that the panel was not loose before (which it wasn't). Val finally asked one of the workers to cut a wedge of wood to secure the fence (a very shoddy fix) because the policemen were standing right there. I would have demanded a more permanent fix, but honestly, I am an extremely busy dual degree graduate student, and I just don't have the time to supervise a more time-consuming fence fix. Val, the owner, was clearly was only interested in getting his money, because my neighbor later told me that Val had called my neighbor up after the workers finished, pretended to be at the work site the whole time (which he wasn't - he only showed up after the cops were called), and asked for immediate payment. He mentioned absolutely nothing of the cops being called, or of any problems with the neighbors. He just wanted the money before I had a chance to talk to my neighbors and jeopardize his payment (my neighbors said they would never have paid him had they found out about this). The rudeness of this company is all the more inexcusable, because we allowed them to work in our backyard to make their job easier. We didn't have to do that, especially since our neighbors didn't tell us this would be happening. Addendum: The names of the openly racist and sexist men are Roy Garrett Sr. and Roy Garrett Jr. Originally, I had the last names incorrectly spelled "Garrick" at first. I had asked both Roy's how to spell their last names, and when they didn't tell me, I asked, "Is it 'G-A-R-R-I-C-K?' Roy Sr. only yelled, "Oh, you think you're smart huh? Knowing how to spell?" He did not correct my spelling. Thankfully, a friend of mine who knows his son and him (and their misogynistic, racist, and abusive ways) corrected my spelling.

Val came out and did a quote and provided an insurance statement without asking. He scheduled it and in spite of illnesses with his crew got it done. They arrived and within three hours had the tree down and cleaned up. The area where the tree was looks as if there never was a tree there. The crew was efficient and friendly. I have used Vals before and have referred them to others. They quote and typically stick to their quote.

We have used them before and they performed the same excellent work as the other tow times. they even picked a bunch of leaves and some of the branches that had already fallen from the wind before.

Easy to work with. Quick work and they did a good job of cleaning up too. They were able to negotiate and beat the lowest bid I previously had. I'd recommend them.

Val's provided a detailed estimate. The person scheduling the appointment was very nice. The workers were punctual and very professional. The clean up was great and we are very happy with the service we received. I would recommend this company.

I called Val's because a storm had caused a half-dead willow tree to finally fall over and it landed on a part of my fence. Val himself y came by a day or two later to give an estimate. I also asked Val about a sticker bush (don't know the exact name of it, but it was a MAJOR annoyance) and he quoted me a price of $375 for both the bush and the tree, including stumping both of them. As we walked back to the front of the house I saw another bush (some sort of wildgrass, I think) that both my wife and I didn't like. I asked him how much to add that on and also clean up some brush that I had previously piled up from trimming some other trees and he said it wouldn't be much more so the total came to $425. I asked if it was ok if I added some more brush because I had some other trees in the back that needed to be trimmed and he said it was fine but, and quot;just don't go too crazy with itand quot;. Well I did end up adding more than I thought it would be (isn't that how it always goes when tree trimming??). Val wrote up the estimate and said they were about a week behind at the time. I said to go ahead and put me on the schedule. Sure enough exactly one week later they were at the house. One small complaint is that they never called to say when exactly they were coming. Not really a big deal as we didn't need to really be there when they were working but it would have been nice to get a call confirming everything. My wife did make a comment to one of the workers about not knowing they would be there today and the worker replied and quot;neither did Iand quot;, so perhaps they had a last minute cancellation and were able to fit us in. When I got home from work I took a look in the backyard and I was AMAZED! They did a fantastic job removing the fallen tree and bushes, as well as all the brush that was lying around. They went way above and beyond what I was expecting. I cannot recommend them enough!!

Well Val wanted to know if we wanted the Ash cut down completely. I was shocked. He told me that the Ash Beetle was expected to enter Missouri soon; which is why all the Ash trees were all cut down around the Arch. He suggested trimming the lower branches and rounding out the top; which he did. His bid was fair and he is the only person who informed me about the Ash tree problem. I later verified the Ash tree problem independently.I will use and recommend Val's Tree service.

They were really good, reasonable and nice. They had the most reasonable price out of all the companies I called. They were there on time and I would highly recommend them.

An estimate was given promptly after my initial call. Final price was right on. His crew was polite and professional. Did a great job. If it wasn't for the trimmed trees you wouldn't have known they had come they cleaned up so well. Val came personally and checked on the work done. Made sure I was happy. Everything went great.

Val was prompt with his bid and started work within a couple of days. His crew was courteous and worked in brutal heat. They took extra time raking and smoothing all areas of removal. Val stated his policy was: "You don't pay until we are completely done and you are satisfied!" I've had several bad experiences with other services, Val was a welcome change.

As I said it took longer to get the job done than first thought because of the unexpected rain that made the ground too soft for their heavy equipment to haul away the logs. The men had to manually haul the logs to the truck at the street. Very hot and heavy work!!! Val's is bonded and insured to do this work. I would recommend that anyone who needs tree work done to get a bid from this company. They have always done great work for us and their bids are always competitive.

They were able to arrive ahead of expected date. They were very efficient, taking just over two hours to remove both the tree and stump. Everything was cleaned up when completed as proposed. i didn't know they were on Angie's list, someone else referred them to me, and I recommend their services. i have two other bids from your list, and Val's was half the price of the price of the first one. They made sure the roof and gutters and all areas nearby were clean before leaving.

They come out right on time and they do a good job. They have done a good job with the clean up. Their prices seem to be reasonable compared to some other companies in the area. They come out and do a professional job.
