We solicited a bid from Tate Home Improvements after they were recommended to us. We were remodeling our entire home including kitchen, bathrooms, all new flooring and paint throughout the entire house. After a walkthrough of the house, we were provide with a verbal estimate. Mr. Tate also took us around the area and showed us several projects he had completed. We decided the price was reasonable for the quality work we hoped to receive. We moved forward and signed a proposal along with placing 10% down to hold our dates for the project. We communicated our max budget as well as our desired budget and agreed it should be doable and the budget was listed in the proposal in writing. Over the next 1.5 months we met with Mr. Tate weekly to pick out flooring and tile and cabinets and fixtures, etc. They sent us all over town looking at different items. We repeatedly asked how we knew what we were picking was in our budget since we were not provided any allowances, ex. flooring estimated at $5/sf and so on. We were always told everything we were selecting was within budget. So, 1.5 months later and just days before we were supposed to begin demolition, we were provided the final estimate. We were SHOCKED to see it was almost DOUBLE OUR MAX BUDGET. We spent almost 2 months reviewing everything with Tate Home Improvements and they never once communicated we were over budget with our selections or the work we expected to be completed. I've waited to write this review until our project was completed to confirm we really could get what we wanted within budget. We selected a different contractor who has given us a BEAUTIFUL home UNDER our max budget. They only showed us products that fit within budget and always informed us of the cost impact of our selections. It really is everything we wanted and more. Tate may do a good job on a small project, but if you want your contractor to manage your budget for a large scale project, do not pick Tate Home Improvements. Also- Tate's cabinet maker barely responded to our questions. They advertise they are "custom" cabinets, but the photos of examples we received looked like they were from the 1980s, and the blueprints of our kitchen layout looked like someone's school project. We are so happy we found a great kitchen designer who gave us accurate renderings and really planned out our space.

Note that some of the info above is a rough estimate but had to be entered to write this review. I was very pleased with the communication and professionalism of the company (dealt with owner). We didn't end up using his services, but he was very responsive and pleasant to deal with.

His assessment of the project I had in mind was first rate and right on. In fact we are having some other work performed asap.

He has been out multiple times and has given us several different quotes depending on how we break the project down. His quote was on the high side but he has also worked in all of the special needs adaptations that other companies weren't familiar with. These things cost and that is why his bid has definitely been on the high side. He has added the special needs flooring, the fall down flooring and it is very different from just putting standard carpeting in. I happened to know his wife before I met him and it was in casual conversation with her that I found out that he did this for a living. That is why we ended up contacting him and it just worked out.
