Overall, Gene did do a few things right. Once he realized there was a code violation he got money back from that contractor. However, we hired him to actually have knowledge to do the oversight. Either he didn't have the knowledge, wasn't through enough, or did not do the oversight at all. He was not very professional. He never treated us like we were his customers, we often questioned who was working for who. Also, when we brought up legitimate concerns he brushed them aside as unimportant and basically didn't deal with them. Not only that. Then when we fired him, he sent about 3 flaming e-mails to us because we questioned why we had to pay $2000 above the $1400 he already received. He billed us for ''hours worked'' when the contract was for a percentage of the overall budget and was ended up being 75% of the amount he would have received. We hadn't even started construction yet and he wanted this much money. We ended up paying him just to get him off the project.
Description of Work: We hired Sunset Design (Gene) to be the Construction Manager for a rehab of a condo. He was to help us find a construction company to work with, create a timeline, and do general construction oversight. We ended up firing him because he was not doing a good job. He did 2 main jobs before we fired him. He inspected a small pre-rehab work done to the washer/dryer room by a contractor (this work was done before rehab to accommodate the condo owner below us). He did not do this adequately. The construction companies that were bidding the job found code violations in the work from the previous contractor that Sunset Design did not find. When asked about it he simply brushed it aside as ''this happens''. The other job he did was to bid out the job to construction companies. He did not convey all the requirements to the construction companies nor did he pay any attention to our budget concerns. We fired him once we found out this information out.
