It went very well overall, though it took longer and was more expensive than expected.
Description of Work: Changed all of our electrical outlets, switches and switchplates from various colors to all white. Also, changed outlet under electrical panal to GFCI so it was up to code.

The services were completed by two different teams from Streib; both of which were very professional, on-time, diligent and responsive to our needs to schedule their services around other contractors. Streib's workers went above and beyond to clean up after themselves, come back out to correct a minor problem and did not require any oversight beyond the initial discussions on what we wanted completed. The end products were exactly what we asked for and my wife felt completely comfortable being at home with Streib's team when I wasn't there. I would definitely recommend Streib and plan to use them in the future for other projects.
Description of Work: We contracted Streib to install electrical outlets and wire TV components (from above the firepalce to an adjacent closet), and install canned lighting in our kitchen.

Work was completed by the electrician Kenny and the apprentice Matt. They were here for four days, working hard the entire time. The project was dirty and difficult, and although our house is small, it never felt like they were underfoot or in the way. They cleaned up as they went and I never saw debris, dirt or dust in our living space. They were both very pleasant and extremely considerate of the needs of our family and my home-based business while the work was underway. The first day they were here (which was the day of the service upgrade) they stayed until the evening to be sure that they left us with everything operational since we were without power throughout the service change. It was a big job to run the service line through the crawl space and basement and they didn't finish until after 6 pm. Although it was a long and difficult day for both men they were always pleasant and professional. They left filthy and exhausted. The next morning they were back bright and early with a positive attitude. Kenny said that our existing attic wiring was crazy with wires criss-crossed and it was a puzzle to figure out how to rewire everything in a safe and sensible way. It appeared that Matt was presented with a good opportunity to learn about wonky old houses. Since completion everything has been as expected. No more dimming lights, no more worries about mysterious bad wiring. Scott came back for the city inspection which was scheduled through their office and was obviously familiar with the inspection process. The most stressful part of the entire job was dealing with Ameren, who could not give a date or time for their part of the service upgrade. Although it was a 15 minute power outage for the switch, there would be no prior warning and no estimate for when it would happen. Both Scott and the city inspector told us this would be the procedure and it was the way it went. A company is only as good as the people they hire. Streib is doing something very right. Everyone I'd been in contact with for this project was pleasant, knowledgable, and spoke very highly of the company that employs them. I would recommend the company for any job big or small.
Description of Work: We have a wonky single story 1920s bungalow and every time we get bids for any sort of work people shake their heads and marvel at how poorly things were done "the last time" (what we inherited when we bought the place). We knew that updating the electrical from 100-amp service with push-button breakers and knob & tube wiring to 200-amp service with new wiring was going to be an ordeal. Scott (the estimator) easily put me at ease with the endeavor. He broke things down into manageable pieces and explained that the knob and tube in the wall wasn't a problem but the wiring in the attic most definitely was a problem as it had deteriorated due to temperature extremes. He suggested leaving the wiring within the walls and replacing the attic wiring to achieve safety while keeping the cost more reasonable. The bid had everything separated so we could choose what to do or not to do. We chose to do everything in the bid (he never gave us an estimate for the wiring in the walls). Our biggest issued turned out to be the location of the new service. Due to the location of the existing service panel and the telephone pole there wasn't a safe way to run the wires past the side of the house (the old knob and tube service lines were actually attached to the side of our single-story home about six feet off the ground). Scott spent time trying to find a workable solution with Ameren before completing the bid. Unfortunately the service needed to be mounted to the front of the house. Not ideal, but at least now we have safe and adequate wiring. It isn't attractive but I am more than pleased with how the lights no longer dim when the appliances run. In the end we upgraded the service, which required running the main line from the front of the house through a crawl space then through the basement past the furnace to the service panel near the back of the house. All the knob and tube in the attic was replaced and fixed as it turned out that everything was wired crazily in the attic. They removed and rewired every ceiling fixture as part of that process. Also they corrected some minor electrical issues, for example the switch for the outside driveway light was moved from behind the refrigerator to near the door. They added an exterior plug. They added a whole-house serge protector on the new panel and ran a new dedicated circuit to the room where I operate my home-based business. And they moved a ceiling fixture in the hallway to a wall so we could install a solar light tube. They added a dedicated circuit for an existing chest freezer and put a basement plug for a future basement refrigerator.

I called the office to see about getting an estimate for the work I wanted done. The person that I spoke with in the office understood exactly what I wanted done. He knew how long it would take and what would need to be done. Keith Martin was the electrician that came to do the work. He arrived on time. He was friendly and professional. We were very pleased with the work and will call Streib again and will ask for Keith.
Description of Work: Replaced two non-grounded Kitchen outlets with new GFI outlets and a replaced the disposal switch that was next to one of the outlets. Then installed a new outlet (GFI) into our bathroom which did not have any outlets. The work in the bathroom required the wall to be cut for the box and run a circuit to the box for the new GFI outlet. After work, he did a nice job of cleaning up both the bathroom and Kitchen area.

When I bought a new dishwasher, I thought installation would be the least of my worries. Discovered on installation day, though, that the way the old washer had been hooked up to the circuit breakers was a potential hazard. The installer, to his credit, said he would not finish the job until I had an electrician look at the panel. I found Streib Electric on Angie's List, liked the reviews and arranged for them to give me an estimate. Scott, the estimator, came right on time, looked over the job, made some recommendations, gave us a verbal estimate and e-mailed the official one later in the day. The two electricians who came were professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. The job was started early on a Friday morning and almost finished by 5 p.m. that day. On Saturday morning, the lead member of the team was back at 7 a.m. to do some finishing work and left three hours later. When the St. Louis county inspector came to look over the job, he told us that he never had problems with Streib's work. After examining the outside work, he even commented that he thought he would use a similar technique at his home. Great job. They will do more work for us.

They are the best ever. Everything works wonderfully and the indoor and outdoor was done so perfectly. It is now all safe, dry, symmetrical, sturdy and properly wired. When the inspector came to make sure it was alright he was even impressed with the quality workmanship. The 3 Streib electrical workers were very fast, efficient, kind, respectful, and cleaned up very nicely after they were finished. Scott walked around with me for my free estimate. He wrote down all my requests and looked at the home inspection report. He sent me a quote that same day They even got the permit and began work 3 or 4 days later when the permit was secured. All of the work was done in one day. I will be calling them again for any other electrical work I may need. I have referred them to two of my neighbors who need electrical work.

Keith arrived in the window that Streib allowed, and he was very nice, and quite courteous. He did all three of the jobs he came to do in about an hour less than originally thought, and did a terrific job- was very meticulous about letting me know parameters of new fixtures and the sort of bulbs needed (one of the fixtures had a dimmer switch on it previously, and required a different sort of bulb purchased) and was very detail oriented explaining the choices of control of fans as he was asking how we wanted him to install them. I will absolutely use this company again.

They did a very good job. They were very prompt and they knew exactly what to do. My brother-in-law who was a part of the plan to put the doorway was shocked at the price and he was expecting it be double than what the actual bill was. They were here just once. According to the code when you break a wire like that you need to have an open box available in the basement so if there is an inspection they can see the connection was done all correctly.

I searched Angie's list for highly rated electricians and saw Streib Electric on list. Also checked with friends who has used Streib and were very satisfied. I called and spoke with Todd who came out within a few days to give me a quote on my work. He was VERY helpful in terms of making suggestions as well. (My house is a challenge b/c I have no attic space and no basement!) There was a delay in getting the work done - but it was ME. . I couldn't decide on which light fixtures I wanted. Todd was really patient with me. Once I purchased/received the light fixtures, the work was scheduled and completed in less than a week! Tim, the electrician that came out, was here at EXACTLY the time they told me to expect him. He worked quickly and efficiently - with a great deal of attention to detail (which I really appreciated.) He was friendly and professional (and my dogs loved him. They watched him intently the entire time he worked.) I was really pleased with the work that was done and how helpful Tim was. (He even answered questions for me about another (possible) future project.) I absolutely recommend this company. Everyone I dealt with (Todd, Tim, the ladies in the office - I called in a credit card to pay) was very professional, very helpful. I have already told friends about the company and posted a recommendation on my Facebook page. Great work Streib. AND I love my new light fixtures!!!!!

GOOD: Everyone was very friendly/responsive/punctual BAD: Inexperienced tech sent the first time Job took twice as long as projected Job was initially botched, requiring another visit Company was quick to respond for a quote, and once I settled on them for service, they were out the next day. Great response all around and everyone was friendly. I was told the job would take three to five hours. The guy they sent out to do the work had the cable ran in about three hours, but it took him about four hours to terminate the 12 ethernet cables he ran. I've fabricated quite a bit of cable in my day and know it's a pain, but four hours is ridiculous. And to top it all off, he terminated them incorrectly. So the job they "guessed" would take three to five hours ended up being closer to eight. Which is unfortunate for me since they were billing me at the standard "service rate/hour". The final bill ended up being only seven hours of service charged (which I wager was because the tech knew he took far longer than he should have). To their credit, they were very quick to come out and fix the botched terminations (at no charge of course). The gentleman that fixed the terminations had all 12 male RJ45 terminations fixed and verified as operational inside of 75 minutes. My only question is, why didn't they just send somebody who knew what they were doing in the first place? The job would have been done right the first time and in about half the time. If they want their electricians to get practice terminating RJ45, they should do it on company time, not mine. The only reason I give them a C overall instead of a B is for that reason alone.

After the initial visit it took a very long time, nearly one week went by before receiving an estimate by email (after phoning in for it because we wished to begin the project). I accepted the estimate and by email requested work to begin ... last week actually. I received no response and no electrician showed up to do the work. There was no communiation of any kind from the parent company by email or telephone to let us know what's happening.. We decided to cancel the job with this company, and to start over from square one.

I called for an estimate in the morning and they came out either that afternoon or the next day. Their estimate was within a couple hundred dollars of the other two I had done. What won them the job was the detail of the proposal, outlining exactly what was going to be done. Others told me verbally but Todd wrote it all out and let me know that the job was straightforward and nothing unusual. He also noticed loose wires from some basement walls we knocked down and offered to tie those up, otherwise it would fail inspection even though it wasn't part of the work I was hiring them for. Another company had pointed out the same thing to me. I almost had to give a B for responsiveness because, after I told them they had the job, I was told it would be handed over to production for scheduling and I didn't hear anything for several days. This was done via email and, perhaps, they aren't used to rapid turnaround with that form of communication. I phoned to say I was going out of town and wanted to get this thing scheduled and I got a return call about an hour later from the guy who would be doing the work. He set us up for three days later. Other than that, they were very good about keeping us informed by phone. I was out of town but my wife said they were on time and she was very impressed with them and how they worked. I inspected the work when I came home and it looked very clean and professional. There was a one hour delay when they found they were missing a part but the total work time was only about five and a half hours.
