Chuck was the electrician who helped me today, and he was great! I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an electrician. I had several bids for this job one at 900, one at 750, and a third at 450 and Chuck and Streib Electric were able to do it for $250. Chuck was polite and knowledgeable, even offering to take off his boots upon arrival. He was able to quickly grasp the situation and got right to work fixing the issue. I was in a bind, I needed this electric work done the same day that I put in the ticket and Streib was fantastic about accommodating me. Ask for chuck he was outstanding, you will not go wrong with him.
Description of Work: The electrician needed to move three switches, which involved going up into the attic and creating junction boxes to extend the wire and then fishing them down the wall again.

They are very punctual. They charged $150 for the first hour and then it was $75 thereafter. But they were here only for an hour for the job. It went good. They showed up on time. He was very honest and told us what we needed to look for later on.
Description of Work: We used Streib for electrical work. They did some wiring and fixed some switches.

If you don’t mind salesmen pressuring to find out what your budget is or electricians trying to sell you things you don’t need then Strieb is fine, but if you do look elsewhere.

First time home owner- who bought a fixer "as is" As in, i have all kinds of problems to fix: plumbing, electrical, walls, floors etc etc. I got about 15 bids from various trades and the electrical bid was hands down my easiest to select. I got 4 estimates for my electrical issues and Streib (2nd estimate of the 4) was the clear choice in the end. Although their bid was slightly higher than others I knew it was because of the through walk-thru I did with Scott, the estimator. He pointed out several issues that i should address- that would be preventative and likely save me money later. For example: moving the panel out from under the water line, no brainer yet no one else mentioned this to me. Maybe some of the other companies were planning to do that but they didn't take the time to explain anything in detail to me. Scott was very informative and explained the how and why of any necessary changes. Timing (i need to move in to my fixer!) was also important to me and Streib was able to begin the work when i asked. so the work began on time, on schedule- Ryan came out and we went room by room over all the items so we were both on the same page. Very nice guy, courtesy and always keeping me in the loop on the progress after i left for work. The job lasted 2 days -which was quicker than i had expected and the best part...the next day when the municipal inspection of the work was to take place, Scott returned to my house and dealt it so i did not have to wait around during the allotted "window" of time. As the sole owner with a full time job- huge convenience! Like i said, its an older house with all kinds of weird issues that involved some problem solving in the basement & kitchen. Streib did an excellent job and the whole experience start to finish was easy & painless.
Description of Work: wire & install new 200 amp meter base & panel with all the necessary trimmings. upgraded outlets- grounded back to panel, installed GFI's in several rooms, put in electric for stove, dishwasher & garage disposal in kitchen, bathroom - new outlet & switch on dedicated circuit. removed some old 220 plugs and added a dimmer in one room + pulled permits.

Due to the layout of our backyard, this was not an easy task. The guys did a good job of maneuvering through our yard to get to the garage. Although Streib was the middle quote we received as far as price went, I felt more comfortable with the responses that I got from Scott than I did from the other electrician--I could tell that he cared about doing the job right. I was impressed with the way the electricians fished the wire through our basement without having to punch any holes in the ceiling. Overall, the job was pretty easy to schedule and was completed without too many headaches. I won't hesitate to call them again.

Just one person came out to replace the fan, and it took just about an hour. I had used them before and they were very reliable. If i were to recommend them I'd say they were very honest with their assessment and they were very upfront about the situation. I like that they're a small local company that's been in business for awhile, I'd used them about a year prior.

Update: Just had my annual maintenance on the generator. The battery recharging circuit needed to power the generator was not properly wired to the circuit beaker panel from the date of installation. The battery went dead within 30 hrs of service. That's right! No emergency power for the entire year. Fortunately, we did not need it to power the oxygen extractor for my mother-in-law. For this reason, Stribe Electric Co. gets a big fat "F." Cee Kay Power, the maintenance contractor, billed Streib Electric for replacement of the dead battery. Streib Electric Co. coordinated all logistics and installation in one day: pulled permits, Laclede Gas meter change out, Ameren Electric cutoff and reconnect, electrical subcontractor, gas plumbing subcontractor, landscaping subcontractor. Several changes delayed installation: The initial contract had the generator in the back of the home requiring a 45ft run of corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST) gas piping. The sales representative misinformed me about the CSST to be used. The proposed yellow CSST, I discovered on my own, was susceptible to ground lightening strike perforation. I therefore requested that the CSST be installed outside underground (contract #1, signed). To increase safety and reduce the cost of installation I moved the installation site to the side of the home next to the gas meter to eliminating the use of CSST (contract #2). My homeowners association disapproved this location. Upon further research, I discovered the availability of a lightening strike resistant CSST, Counter Strike having a conductive black coating. Therefore, I requested the change back to the rear of the house with less expensive basement installation with Counter Strike (contract # 3). During installation, I leaned that the gas contractor only used Counter Strike CSST. Had the sales representative told me this, I would have chosen the #3 version from the start. The contract provided a modest amount for landscaping but did not specify details. Therefore, I asked the sales representative to annotate the Contract #3 with the building of a 3 tall by 6? long wall to retain a cut in the natural slope of the yard, and hide the generator from street view. The installation actually began without Contract #3 being signed. On the day of installation, there was substantial disagreement between what the sales person and I had agreed upon and what the installer was authorized to do (wall vs. no wall). After much negotiation I relented by paying for all landscaping material cost while they bore the additional labor cost for hauling materials, and building 3' to grade high X 6' long retaining wall; they would only retain the disrupted natural slope of the lawn. This was not sufficient to shield the generator from street view as annotated by the sales representative on the unsigned contract #3. When the Electrical contractor was making the house penetration for the generator wiring, he drilled directly into a floor joist. When I ran out to tell him to stop drilling, he barked backed, "I know what I'm doing." The CSST installer cut through the house ground wire, which caused the job to fail County inspection. The electrical contractor who re-spliced the grounding wire had let his license expire. Therefore, St. Louis County refused to re-inspect pending reinstatement of his credentials. Clean up: They cleaned up only the big stuff, leaving wire pieces, screws, concrete dust and wood chips from the drilling operations on the floor, on top of wiring, the breaker box and the foundation ceil. Conclusion: I hired Streib Electric Co. after speaking with their sales staff at their beautiful landscaped display at the St. Louis Home Show. Their pitch was that they did everything including beautiful landscaping around the installed generator. Many of the problems were caused by subcontractors over which Streib Electric Co. has no direct control. However, the failure to provide me with the knowledge of Counter Strike CSST caused all contract revisions. Streib refused to ground the Counter Strike gas pipe per manufacturer's, and National Fire Code (NFC) specifications because County inspectors don't fault it even though the County defers to the NFC when there is no specific County Ordinance. I had to purchase the materials and ground it my self after receiving instructions from the County Electrical Inspector. The failure to ground the CSST after customer insistence is inexcusable. The installation is still not approved by Saint Louis County. When approved I will change my score from ?F? to ?C.? Saint Louis County approved the installation on 7/11/2014, 3 months after installation. I was told by Streib to be available for the inspection. I waited all day with no show. I subsequently learned that the approval was just a formality not needing reentry into my residence.
Description of Work: Install whole-house generator, expand electrical service by installing sub-panel, replace electric meter box.

Response from Streib Company
[member name removed], First I would like to apologize for your experience with Streib Company, we take great pride in the services we provide. I have full confidence that my team will be relentless in giving you the product in which you were proposed. It is our policy to clean up all of our projects at the end and I apologize if this was not done. I do know that the ground wire was not cut, but grazed by the gas contractor in which we repaired. It was the gas contractor with the license hold up, not the electrician. I was able to speak with the gas contractor and this issue is resolved and permits are being processed this week. We will complete all final inspections next week and while I know you were not satisfied by the services provided, I would ask for the opportunity to make this right in the future. Thank you, TOM STREIB President

The technician who came out was friendly and knowledgeable. I appreciated his willingness to take a detour to my house when he was probably on his way to another job. Fingers crossed that we don't have any further electrical problems, but, if we do, Streib Electric will be our first call.
Description of Work: On Thursday evening, the main breaker on our new electrical panels (also installed by Streib about two months ago) was tripped and would not reset. I chose not to take advantage of the emergency service and waited until the next morning to place a service call. I spoke with someone about the problem at 9:30 a.m., and they were able to get a technician out to my house by 10:45 a.m. I didn't catch the guy's name, but he identified the problem (a defective breaker) quickly and was able to make the repair on the spot. There was no charge since the part was still under warranty.

We were very pleased with the quality of work and the professionalism of the personnel we encountered. They even assisted with getting the inspector out in a timely manner. Whole process went smoothly. They were not the least expensive quote. One of the reasons we went with Streib was based on their longevity in business and the probability of continuing to be in business.
Description of Work: The main service provided was to switch out main fuse box with new breaker panel. Bringing up to code. Replaced several outlets making some GFCI. Wire and installed new outlets. Wire and installed new ceiling fan in master bedroom which was no easy task as it included crawling up in the attic.

.It went very well. Both electricians were honest, efficient and just plain nice guys. They might have kept my house from burning down, and I'm not exagerating! They were fast...said they would be there in two hours...they were there in one. They were the greatest. They repaired the two junctions, fully tested the faulty line, the circuit breakers and put everything back. I was very impressed and have already recommended this company. Everyone was professional, fast and courteous. These guys were beyond fantastic.
Description of Work: Had a small emergency. Furnace kept blowing breakers, but it was a new furnace since July. Turned out the problem was not the furnace, nor the breakers, but a 220 volt junction box. Their were signs of charring and it turned out that unions were loose and metal was barely exposed that upon vibration, contacted the box. It could have caused a fire or electrocution had it remained untended. I don't like to work with 220...don't have proper meters to test . Provider fixed unions and rewrapped them so they would be secure. Two electricians checked the functionality of the 125 amp breakers and they were fine from the output their meters showed. They could have sold me a $150 breaker, but didn't....I didn't need that part, as I had thought.

About a week ago the power went out in my garage while the garage door was in the process of going down. I did the usual-- checked lightbulbs, made sure the opener was plugged in properly, checked for tripped breakers-- but couldn't figure it out. Called Streib on Thursday morning and schedule them to come out first thing on Monday. Keith showed up on time and was very thorough in the process of diagnosing the problem. Traced it to an improperly wired ceiling fan. Once the fan was wired correctly power was restored to the garage. I will definitely have Streib back to my home in the future.

The Streib electrician was right on time, very efficient, professional and competent. He worked tirelessly all day and completed the installation neatly, perfectly and to code. When they found they didn't need to move the location of the original box the way it was originally estimated they agreed to refund $310. My wife and I could not be more pleased. They did exactly what we wanted them to do, what they said they were going to do, on time and on budget. No surprises. It wasn't cheap but in this case we got what we paid for and it was well worth it!
