Very well. They handled everything, and their proposal was conservative, with estimates of production and ROI actually below what I have realized. They also waited for my approval when they were concerned about my roof, waiting for an independent roofing expert opinion.

The 9.69 kWh solar energy system was installed by StraightUp Solar by their professional installers and professional electricans. The system has been working to perfection since it was installed one year ago. The system has excessed our expections (even when they were high in the first place) in regards to solar production and interactions with StraightUp Solar. We highly recommend them for any homeowner or business who are considering solar energy as a form of generating electricity and saving money.

Description of Work: Design was good, I love the product, but installation was a nightmare. We ask for two weeks notice for our schedule and they tried to give us one day. Then when we agreed on two days, they only worked part of the Friday and did not show up until after 10 on Monday. (All the while, I am on vacation to let them in). All I can say is put the construction schedule in the contract with a penalty clause if they cost you extra time off work.

We did several interviews before deciding on this company. They seemed the most professional. The sales promises have not lived up to the reality. We emphasized we wanted no surprises in achieving the advertised production. We were assured this would not happen. In reality, we ended up paying 10% more for less production. We thought we were being thorough, but it did not save us. They may better than their competitors, but we will never know.

The initial person that I talked with was very good and knowledgeable, and gave me a lot of good information. The person that did the bid was not very competent. He did not bring the device that can estimate the sun in an initial visit. After some discussion as to how much energy would actually be produced, he came back and did the measurement with the device. There were mistakes on the bid in terms of the assumptions of the energy it would produce. We have a tile roof and I had some concern about it, and eventually discovered that they had never done solar panels on a tile roof before (initially I was told it was not a problem, but when I pressed them for how they would do it on a tile roof, it came out that they had never done a tile roof before. I did not like the bid, in that the assumptions were not stated such as the angle of the roof to the sun, and the percent shade. As noted above, the bid had inconsistencies (we got a few bids, one without the device to measure the sun, and one with the device, and some of the calculations were wrong), and a clear mistake. This did get corrected. . The person that did the bid had a terrible cell phone. I could not hear most of what he said, and it dropped frequently. Once I called the office to try to avoid the cell phone, and he ended up calling me back, which annoyed me. I do think that I would have bought the solar panels from them if I had not had the issue of a tile roof to worry about.

I found them on Angie's List. The job was a good job. They did a real good job of installing the panels. They didn't give me all the information that I needed, and I had to keep going back to them to ask more questions, but they were fast in giving the answer. The project took a while, but that is the way it is. I started the process in October, and they didn't get the final approval until December, and they didn't get the material until the end of March, they then got it done in two days. They were very professional, very polite, and respectful. The guys that they had, called me out and explained what they were doing, and then they went ahead and did it. I really liked that part. I did not like that after they were paid, and I had questions, I did not get responses. Their price was high. I had about 8 proposals, and theirs was the highest. I went with him, because he was very professional.

We greatly appreciate the chance to work with you on your project and also appreciate your feedback. We did wish to share that your solar components were premium components at somewhat of a premium cost, but, allowed us to maximize your available roof space to get the most solar production from a fixed area. We apologize if we were slow to respond to your requests for information in anyway after the installation. We very much want to hear additional feedback after installations on how the systems are performing. Please feel free to reach us at any point through the email or phone at our office. I'm Dane, President of StraightUp, and I'm happy to send you my cell phone directly if I can help in any way. Lastly, we were very glad to hear from you in June that the previous month your solar system produced more than your home's electric usage - that's great! Thanks again, Dane

ALL the work was done VERY PROFESSIONALLY and they clean up after themselves as well. The work was performed in a timely manor and communication was always shared. (too many companies don't communicate) There were 35 Solar Panels installed in three separate pods (if you will) to give us the most benefit. Once we received the assesment and the final estimate, we decided which Solar Panels we wanted to purchase and everything went exactly as planned (almost to the minute) We are very happy to have made the decision to go with STRAIGHT UP SOLAR !!!
Description of Work: We received a very timely presentation, and shortly after an assesment was done of our home to determine the best placement of Solar Panels. Once that was done we received, again very timely, an estimate of what would be the best recommendation of panels. I am VERY PROUD to tell you that as of today, we are fully operational by 35 Solar Panels. STRAIGHT UP SOLAR is an excellent company. They are very personable and very informed.

Overall this was a very good experience. Everyone I met was friendly and professional. They are all knowledgeable and willing to take their time to answer any question you have. Do know that this is a event that takes some time. I signed the contract in late Sept 2012. The local electric utility (AMEREN) then took about 30 days for the review cycle before they approved it. Ordering the material and waiting for my time in line then consumed the rest of the time until installation. Be patient, ask the occasional question and your contact at Straight Up Solar will keep you informed of your status. Weather events will also play a part. The electrician comes first to install the internal components, the external shut off switch and the wiring from the basement to the attic. Someone needs to be present for that. The panel installers come next and while you are welcome to be present, it isn't necessary. Lastly the electrician returns to connect the panels to the wiring in the attic. He also set up the online monitoring application. My biggest surprise was the cost. I was hoping to get a 3-to-4 kw system for around $21,000 (after incentives). But due to the dropping prices, I was able to get a 7.68 kw system for just under $14,000 (after incentives). I've already received the utility incentive and am waiting for my company's incentive. Applying for the federal tax credit will be next. My only regret is not taking a little more time to reflect in the beginning about a larger system. I was so excited about the cost/size issue that I jumped the gun a little bit. Expanding is an option I will consider after I see how the current system performs once the summer rolls in. Be assured that if I choose to expand I will be going to Straight Up Solar. Thanks for all your hard work.
Description of Work: I contracted with Straight Up Solar for a 7.68 kw electric system on the roof of my home. I had reviewed several companies & chose Straight Up Solar. They were very easy to deal with, answered all my questions & were informative without being pushy. They handle all the permits, set up the inspections & coordinate with you on the inspection dates. The installation was performed in mid-December 2012. The last inspection was completed on Dec 31, 2012. The local utillity installed the bi-directional meter on January 18, 2013 & I turned the system at 1:30 p.m. the same day when I came home from work. The system is working fine to date.

We went with StraightUp Solar after a bad experience with Microgrid Energy (they basically dropped the ball on our project after we signed the sales contract and left us hanging for over a month with excuses every time we would contact them). The project was time sensitive due to the interest free loan we received. The project had to be completed by a certain date. We lost a month waiting on Microgrid but StraightUp Solar was able to come in, accomodate us and expedite our project and complete it in time to meet the requirements of our loan. The entire crew was very friendly and professional and explained what they were doing every step of the way.

Description of Work: I had them come out for a quote on solar for my house, I wish they did more then jsut PV solar as i would also like water and pool heating. They had there ducks in a row and even though was young the person really knew his stuff. they did not try and gimmicks or over inflated claims and backed all claims with references, and encouraged to Google and verify on my own. My only complaint is I never got the quote emailed to me like they said they would. was not pushy and just laid out the information.

The proposal submitted was within the budget I projected. Unfortunately, I had several expensive plumbing problems in my house that had first priority for those funds. I may call them again next year if my finances improve.
Description of Work: The issue was to find a site for a solar installation and the logistics involved in connecting the installation to the house and grid. There seemed to be gaps of time between site analysis and the reports produced for my review.

Response from StraightUp Solar
Thank you for providing a response to our services. As an owner of the company, I am constantly look for feedback on our customer experience. I do apologize for the lack of urgency to get a proposal in your hands. As our company continues to expand, we will work on our operations to better stream line our processes. We are in an unusual industry where site visits are not optional. We clearly take the time to make sure we can design a PV Solar System that fits both the physical and budgetary needs of our customers. With that said, we use satelite image draft that in the past was outsources to to a design firm. We have invested time and money in our own process now which has cut out the 3-4 days it took the design firm to draft the design, so hopefully when you are ready to proceed with the project, we will be able to meet your needs in a more timely fashion. Thanks again for voicing your opinions on Angies List. It truly allows us to keep manicuring our experiences with our customers.

The intention was to cover up half of our electric bill. It works perfectly. They were lovely to work with. They knew what they were doing, and arranged them. They helped us to get the rebates through. They were great with that. They worked with us beautifully, and the price was great. We got federal rebates, so it ended up being a super deal. They charged their price minus the rebate; so I didn't know what their charge was.
