I brought Brett four severely water damaged thermofoil kitchen cabinet doors, after having spent countless hours on the phone, online and in person trying to find someone who would take this job on. No one would! They were discontinued by the manufacturer. Finally I brought them to Modern Kitchens hoping to maybe purchase doors at least similar to the originals and they suggested I try St. Louis Restoration. I did, and Brett agreed to take it on! I really didn't have much hope because the doors were so severely damaged, but I figured anything would be an improvement. I could not believe my eyes when I saw them completed!! The doors could not be restored , so they rebuilt them! The paint match was as close to perfect as you could get! They are so well built and sealed, I will never have the water damage problem with them again! I could not be happier with the work as well as the price!!!!

Brett and his assistant picked up the door on a Tuesday and replaced it by Friday. Everything went great!
Description of Work: We had the cracked glass inset on our exterior door fixed. The area where it was cracked had a feathered type of print on the glass. Brett and his team got the identical glass to replace the area where it was cracked and it looks absolutely perfect.

wow I never realized the details and design that is on the radiators. It looks wonderful.
Description of Work: The radiator looks amazing and it is totally worth the price. I am remodeling my home and had it stripped and painted for the bathroom remodel. It is just beautiful. I will be having the rest of the radiators pulled out and painted the same as part of my remodeling. They also do doors, stairs and furniture. I have not used them for those services yet.

Description of Work: We hired St Louis Restoration to strip and refinish our kitchen cabinets. They came on Friday 11/11/11 and removed the doors and drawers then they sanded and used chemical stripper on what couldn't be removed. They returned 7:30am on Thursday, 11/17/11 and with our permission, worked till midnight staining . They returned again at 7:30am on Friday 11/18/11 to reassemble the cabinets and finish the odds and ends. Brett and Brad were patient, as I have a critical eye, and fixed all the spots that needed touching up. They were couteous and professional. The only improvement I would suggest, and I'm finding this with most businesses lately, is in communication. Businesses do the work they do all the time, we don't. More detailed information as to the processes and time frames, and returning phone calls promptly would be helpful.

Everything went well. We were warned that it would probably take longer than a week to work on the door since it was pretty badly damaged and we were fine with that.
Description of Work: Our front door is a gothic shaped door so we had been given quotes from $6,000 to $9,000 to replace it since one contractor even told us that our door was not salvageable due to the numerous cracks and warping. St. Louis Restoration did a wonderful job in restoring and repairing our front door. They stripped off the awful white and beige paint on the front and put a dark stain on it to match the back of the door and they also made the back of the door look great. Not only did they fix the cracks in the wood and the warping of the wood on the back of the door where water must have come in from underneath the glass inset, they also fixed the door knob too so it didn't feel like it was about to fall off. What really impressed us is their obvious love of old furniture and their enthusiasm for restoring it.

GREAT!
Description of Work: At two separate times, we took 2 doors and 6 shelves to be stripped so that we could restain (the doors) and repaint the shelves. We wanted to keep as many original items from our 95 years old home original construction so we felt it was worth it to have these items stripped. Both times, Brett and his crew did an excellent job and the items were ready when promised (in a little over a week). We are very pleased with their work and will use this company again in the future.

The quality of their work was good. However, I attribute their extreme underestimation of the time requirements to total inefficiency. They would have, I am told, 2 workers there each day but one of which worked until appoximately 5:00 or 6;00 with the other staying until 9;00 and still unable to make much headway. While I was willing to give a day or two leeway, they seemed to have no concept of time, were unresponsive as to when they would finish, worked for many of the first days without a heat gun, seemed to spend a lot of time on the phone (the one worker at least during the periods I was home) and generally seemed to have little respect to schedules. When I asked the one worker about a completion date, he gave me the one line I absolutely abhore--he can either do a good job or a fast job. The expectation when you are paying for service is ALWAYS that their work will be quality work but you also expect people to be able to properly estlimate and actually work to completion. At the very least, I should not have to track them down to find out when they would finish. Rather, once it became clear that they would not finish within anything close to the estimated time, the owner should have come to me with revised specificiations.
Description of Work: The company was hired to stripe, refinish and, to the extent necessary, repair a staircase including bannisters, spindles, steps risers etc. The company had a representative to come out to give me an estimate of both time and money. I made it clear that I really wanted to contain the work to a single week as the staircase was in the front of my home and the work would block access and make a general mess and I wanted to avoid having to deal with that over a dormant weekend. I received an estimate of a little more than $4,000 including a repair to one post. I was told that it would take 4 days. We attempted to schedule a week with the owner first discounting an earlier week because his workers would only be able to start in the middle and therefore, would fail to adhere to my single week requirement. I regularly saw one worker (although it was my understanding that a second was there on most days) beginning at 7:00 until 9:00 pm most nights. I was wiling to live with essentially ceding control of my house as I thought they believed that this would allow them to finish within the estimated time. After 4 days, I asked if they would be finish that week, i.e., the next day which would be day five. The worker failed to provide any usuable response. Ultimately, after 2 weeks and having one worker in my home everyday from 7:00 am until approximately 9:00 pm they still had not completely finished. Upon my insistence that they needed to finish, they finished the repair work in the shop.

We found a quality cherry wood cabinet that we could afford for this large project but we were not happy with the cherry stain colors that were available from the manufacturer. We ordered the cabinets unfinished and sent them to St. Louis Restoration for staining. They stained a sample for us and got the perfect color and the finish on the 1st try. The cabinet staining was completed in a timely fashion and made available to our contractor for installation. St. Louis Restoration was also very accommodating when we brought them additional trim pieces for staining. After the installation was completed we found areas that needed to be touched up. Again St. Louis Restoration was very accommodating. They came to the house and touched up all areas to our satisfaction. There was one cabinet door that we were not happy with, the color appeared uneven and splotchy. They took the door back to the shop to restain it. This was completed in a timely fashion. This was a large project and we did not expect that everything would be perfect. Our complete satisfaction is based on how the company handled the minor issues that we identified. They came through for us with flying colors and all the touch up was completed without question.
Description of Work: We did a complete kitchen remodel of a 19 year old kitchen and updated a wine bar in the family room. We ordered new unfinished cherry wood cabinets and sent them to St. Louis Restoration for staining. The project consisted of 35 cabinets and all the crown molding, bottom molding for the upper cabinets and base board trim for the project.

Derek arrived promptly for the estimate appointment and patiently answered all our questions. The workers arrived as scheduled on Monday morning to remove the door and install the temporary barrier. The door was returned on Friday as promised. It was late in the day on Friday and the crew was in a hurry to be on their way. The next day I took my time looking at the door. The repair of the crack was satisfactory, however the rest of the work was dissappointing. There were places where the poly coating pooled and others where the poly coating was very thin. There were many rough spots where a little more sanding would have improved the appearance. I contacted Derek and he very quickly arranged for the door to be removed again and the work to be redone. The negative for me was that we were without a front door for another week with a makeshift plywood barrier. The door was returned again within the 5 day period with the appearance much improved.
Description of Work: Removed a very heavy oak exterior door, took it back to the shop where the outside was stripped and refinished. A temporary plywood barrier was installed inplace of the door. In addition to stripping and staining there was a crack in the bottom panel to repair. Stripped several layers of paint from another exterier door.

Brought doors in and some other items that were smoke/fire damaged. Because I like natural wood unpainted the staining was a concern. They were honest about the damage on all items, some would likely not be cleanable. The doors were able to be salvaged. They could have easily have told me otherwise, but they kept it honest. I have had doors and wood work stripped by them before and it has always been 99% perfect. Will continue to be a customer for a long time.
Description of Work: Had a pair of French doors that sustained fire damage. they were able to make them look like new again. The price was competitive and they finished the work faster than estimated. Took a big burden off my shoulders, the doors are an unusual size and I was concerned they were unrepairable. They fixed them completely.

I was a little apprehensive to use Strip Clean after reading some of the reviews, but I gave them a chance. They also repair, paint, and refinish furniture and other items. I also believe that they have new management. I brought in two old metal vent covers to be stripped. The shop now has a front office area where they provide a written estimate and contract. I recommend that you write a detailed description of your items on that contract. I had to pay up front which I was not happy about. I do not know if they require up front payment for more expensive jobs. They estimated that the job would require 7 days, but said that it could be sooner. I called 5 days later, and the pieces were ready. When I picked up the pieces, the workmen were more than friendly and gave me several recommendations for priming and painting the covers. One of the vent covers still had some paint on it, but that piece had numerous slats and louvers. Strip Clean did a much better job than I ever could have accomplished and in less time. I am very satisfied with their work. I will definitely use them again for future refinishing work.
Description of Work: Strip Clean stripped the paint off two metal vent covers. The vent covers are old and are not a standard size/ design that can be replaced without special ordering them. The covers also have a lot of nooks and crannies and moving slats. These vent covers had layers of paint caked on them by the previous owners of my house. I had previously tried to strip the paint from one by myself. Strip Clean removed the paint from the covers and saved me a lot of time, trouble and effort. The covers were not completely free from paint when I received them, but considering the complexity of the pieces, Strip Clean did a great job. Strip Clean also finished the job earlier than they had estimated.

I never received anything in writing and I didn't like that. They said they would be finished in 3 weeks and it took them 6 instead. The most disconcerting thing was their initial estimate. The said it was a rough estimate of $800. When I picked up the furniture, the bill was $1800. When I questioned them about it, they said "well it was a rough estimate." The quality of work was okay, but I wouldn't deal with them ever again.

The work done was quite good and only required some additional sanding to prep the surface for stain. The piece was not completed on time and delayed about 10 days. Price was competitive with others in the area.

Well, they LOST OUR DOOR!! When my husband went to pick it up, it could not be found. We gave the guy that "runs" the place a few days to find it and we had to contact him and were told that THEY STILL COULD NOT FIND OUR DOOR! The guy said that he would try calling everyone that had picked up in the last couple of weeks to see if they had an extra door. Again, we had to contact him for any updates and were told no door. At this point, we have a big problem. The door is exactly like all the 4 other doors in our hallway. My husband and I have spent several hours searching the internet for a door like ours as well as visiting the Habitat for Humanity and various other "architectural salvage" places with no luck finding anything that would replace the door that STRIP CLEAN LOST. When we contacted the guy again, he still didn't seem very concerned and we told him that he needs to find our door or have another one custom made. So far, we have not heard anything from him.

We found this business on Angie's List, called them, were delighted to know they were open until 1:00 pm on Saturday (it was 12:30), told them we were coming, and drove over to drop off the doors. They waited for us, helped us carry them in, asked us if we were intending to paint them or stain them, and gave us a receipt. They estimated seven to ten days to finish and came in several days under their estimate (to our delight). They did a nice job. The doors still needed sanding, but overall they did a good job with a rough situation doors that had at least seven or eight coats of paint.

I BROUGHT MY GRANDFATHER'S MORRIS CHAIR TO STRIP CLEAN TO BE STRIPPED, AND REFINISHED. THE STRIPING TOOK A WEEK, AND THEN STRIP CLEAN ASKED MY TO COME IN, AND PICK OUT A FINISH. I WAS HAVING TROUBLE DECIDING, AND THE STAFF PERSON WAS VERY PATIENT, AND TRIED SEVERAL FINISHES ON THE BARE WOOD TO SEE WHICH I LIKED THE BEST. WHILE THE STAFF ARE A ROUGH LOOKING GROUP, I LIKED THEM, AND THOUGHT THEY DID A GREAT JOB. THE CHAIR LOOKED BEAUTIFUL. THEY EVEN SMOOTHED OUT AN AREA THAT MY PUPPY HAD CHEWED.

THEY CAME OUT AND PICKED UP THE FURNITURE AND I ALMOST DIDN'T RECOGNIZE IT WHEN IT CAME BACK. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! THE PROCESS THEY USED TOOK OUT SEVERAL IMPERFECTIONS AND THE LIGHTER STAIN AND FINISH REALLY BROUGHT OUT THE WOOD. THEY WERE VERY HELPFUL AND DID A TREMENDOUS JOB. THAT SAID, DON'T WORRY WHEN THEY COME TO GET YOUR FURNITURE OR IF YOU HAVE TO GO DOWN TO THEIR SHOP TO PICK OUT A STAIN. THE SHOP LOOKS LIKE YOU WILL NEVER SEE YOUR FURNITURE AGAIN AND THEIR EMPLOYEES LOOK ABOUT THE SAME. I'M NOT EVEN SURE IF THE EPA KNOWS THESE PEOPLE EXIST WITH ALL THE CHEMICALS FLOATING AROUND THE PLACE. FANTASTIC WORK. WELL WORTH THE COST.
Description of Work: STRIPPED AND REFINISHED 2 TWIN BEDS (HEADBOARDS, FOOTBOARDS, RAILS), A CHEST OF DRAWERS, A DRESSER, A NIGHTSTAND AND A MIRROR. THEY ALSO REPLACED THE MIRROR AND FIXED A FEW BROKEN PIECES ON THE BED RAILS.
